My biggest surprise with EJ is actually his facial dunks. He's quickly emerged out of nowhere into a top 5 in game dunker. His facials go hard. They are badass. Like tonight when he dropped a spin move on Granger... drove the lane and threw it down all over 7'3 Roy Hibbert. He's just nasty right now attacking the hoop. That D Wade Euro/2 step he's implimented has helped him get to the line SO much.
Eric Gordon is the next Danny Granger or Kevin Martin where... nobody knows who they are till they see a stat sheet and say "Wtf!? Who is this guy Gordon averaging 25 and 5???". I know when Kevin Martin put up like 26 ppg couple seasons ago it caught me off guard because I hadn't even heard of him. EJ is getting love he's just not popular yet. He will probably make all star team behind Kobe since Roy is injured.
Hope you're watching the game Andrew... so you feel stupid. Eric Gordon 3 turnovers on mishandling with nobody on him. Plenty of space.. loses ball like butter fingers.
@clippersfan2004 I watched the game....take a look at all the players in the NBA that have the ball in their hands 2 out of every 3 possessions. They are average 3+ TOs a game.
About the turnovers.. I'm talking about 1 stretch.. where he had an Iso.. and dribbled ball.. defender didn't even touch it and he turned it over 3 times. Ball just slips out of his hand. If he gets handles like Tyreke Evans.. it's OVER. 30 ppg.
Btw love how i'm wrong for saying 16 percent from deep.. and you correct me with 17 percent. Get out of here dude ;p. I didn't even look it up so shows i've been watching the games.
Eric Gordon's emergence isn't a surprise. What's a surprise is that.. he's demanding the ball finally like i've always wanted because his first 2 seasons he was a catch and shoot player.. even himself and coaches recently have been saying that's all he used to be. Nothing i've said isn't fact. Once he gets his 3 point shot back he can be a mid-high 20's scorer his entire career. Still needs to figure out those handles though. Everything else in his game is fantastic.
@clippersfan2004@clippersfan2004 You keep focusing on his handles. Get over it. He had 7 assists last night and he got to the foul line 13 times. The only way you get 7 assists and get to the foul line 13 times is if you know how to dribble. I will admit, he doesn't have Iverson handles, but he doesn't handle the ball like a person with butter fingers. The game before the Minny game EJ got to the foul line 20 times, and vs. the Spurs he had 11 assists. He can handle the ball, lol.
There is a difference between being honest and realistic and being a biased fan. You're sounding like a Kobe fan the way you kiss EJ's ass. Anyone with a brain who watches the Clips can see EJ's ballhandling needs a lot of work. Just look at Detroit where ball bounced off his knee for turnover when he was going for game winner. It cost us the game along with a couple other things. EJ is getting to the line and I agree it's great.. but he's only barely tapping into go to guy role.
@clippersfan2004 EJ is my dude! In my opinion he is the 3rd best shooting guard in the NBA behind Kobe and Wade. His numbers don't lie and he is 7th in scoring in the entire league. 24 ppg, 5apg, and 4apg. You won't find many players in the NBA putting up 20, 4 and 4. EJ deserves credit and he needs fan support. He is one of the most underrated players in the league. Hell, they left him off the all-star ballot last year!
I agree. Especially with B Roy's injury you can make a strong cause he's the 3rd best SG in the league for sure. Healthy B Roy is a little better. I don't think he's underrated because this is the first season he's playing out of his mind like this. Teams are already game planning for him and doubling.. so it's only the fans that are sleeping on him ; ). I agree though that currently people aren't talking about him enough.
Standing around behind the 3 point line and being a quiet guy ain't going to get you more shots. He lacks killer instinct to demand the ball, call for an Iso and school the defender. That's the Eric all of us Clippers fans are waiting for. We all know in college and HS he had a nasty killer instinct and was aggressive on offense. Kaman or not he is the one holding back his offense.
@clippersfan2004 Wow, you were way off on these comments. He stands around, doesn't attack the rim, doesn't demand the bal, and doesn't have the killer instinct? Those are the strengths of Eric Gordon's game, lol. He is one of the best in the league at attacking the rim and he has shown that he not only has killer instinct, but he is a leader.
You are right on point with what you are saying. The clippers are struggling to score because the are constantly force feeding Chris Kaman. The game is so slow and the offense doesn't move. I would like to see EJ get about 15 shot attempts a game, but those numbers are only going to happen if Blake is in the game b/c BD is going to pass the ball to Butler or shoot.
Gordon has been efficient scoring and right now Kaman is the most consistent and gives us the best chance to win games. I don't mind feeding Kaman because he scores so easily. I think Butler and Baron would be the ones shooting less to give EJ a few more shots. Superstars are born by estabilishing themselves not blaming teammates. Think Kevin Durant asked anyone to give him more shots? Or Kobe? No! Eric needs to demand the ball and lead.
@clippersfan2004 We miss Chris Kaman, but he isn't our most consistent player. Eric Gordon gets that title. Eric is demanding the ball and he is leading.
He stands around WAY too much for as good of a slasher he is. Another problem is in isolation his ball handling skills are terrible so he has no way to break someone down off the dribble. Once he improves his ball handling and off the ball movement he will crack 25 ppg no problem.
He plays around the 3 point line. That is his position. The kid can dribble. Saying his ball handling skills are terrible are beyond stupid. He has handles, it is just the fact that he doesn't get the ball as much as he should. Any player that hasn't touched the basketball is going to be more prone to turnovers or missed shots.
Have you seen him try to take his man off the dribble??? He turns the ball over half the time. Every Clippers fan knows his ball handling is his biggest flaw which is exactly why we don't even play him at PG when Baron is stinking it up bro. You're a Vince Carter fan talking to an EJ/ Clippers diehard son.
I have seen him take many defenders off the dribble. If you are a true fan you would see this too. What about his dunk baseline while being guarded by Battier in Hou, his dribble penetration and the foul vs. the Kings, his crossover vs. the Thunder for the dunk? Those rae just a few in the last two weeks.
Not saying he doesn't do it. Saying he's an average ball handler. I also never suggested he's bad at slashing to the hoop because he's actually amazing at it. He just needs to work on handles so he can start at some PG and work on attacking the rim more often. I'm a true fan which is why I know exactly how EJ plays.
Every player has to work on at least one aspect of their game. Vince Carter has never been a really good passer, is he good, yes. The other strengths in his game over shadow his passing game. Gordon may not be able to handle the ball like Steve Nash, but he doesn't have to, as he is not the point guard. The Clippers didn't draft him to be their point guard, they drafted him to be their starting wing for years to come. They wouldn't have signed Baron Davis for 60 million if they thought dif.
We signed BD literally like 4 days after drafting EJ man. Had nothing to do with EJ's future. It had to do with signing a potential top 10 player but we found out quickly once he got a big deal he got lazy. Eric was brought in to be a combo guard. He's only 6'3 and played point in HS and some in college. Ask Dunleavy and Sterling because both publicly stated they were bringing him in to be a combo guard.
@clippersfan2004 Wow, and you call yourself a true fan....EJ is unguardable bro. He attacks the rim more than any player in the NBA. Just the other night he went to the foul line 20 times! You don't get 20 free throws by just standing around.
Andrew it's Clippersfan86 from Clippers Topbuzz and i'm far from a fake fan. It's convenient for you to write this now when he's finally playing the way he always should have and the way I always knew he could. Unfortunately it came at the loss of his 3 point shot because right now he can't shoot for crap. 16 percent on the season from 3.
@clippersfan2004 You aren't even part of Clipper Nation!? Btw, you are wrong again! EJ is shooting 17% from 3pt, but I will take him getting to the basket and getting to the free throw line an average of 8.7 times per game! 23 points per game, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds are nothing to get your panties in a bunch. Btw, I am the one that knew he could be this type of player. You were the one questioning his ability to attack the rim, playmake, and be the go to guy and leader.
Nope. Go read my posts on rookie EJ on the only legit Clipper forum on the web (Clipper Topbuzz) and you'll see i've been saying he can become a legit franchise player since the first few games. I predicted he would replace Mobley early. I predicted he would score 40 and break the Clipper rookie record. I predicted he would be a career 25 ppg scorer. Doesn't change the fact that his ballhandling is poor (just watch the games) and that prior to this season he didn't lead.
@clippersfan2004@clippersfan2004 Yeah, I agree with all of that and I too thought he was capable of doing those things. I have watched EJ since he was a soph at North Central in Indiana.
He needs to have a chat with Rip Hamilton. Rip is constantly moving on offense off screens or just running around in general. That keeps defenders on their toes. Eric stands around waiting for the ball and by the time he gets it the D is ready for him and quick to throw pressure on him.
EJ doesn't need to do anything different. He is scoring very effeciently now. He just needs the ball more. He is the Clipper's shooting guard. Gordon is putting up 17.5 points per game on just over 12 shot attempts per game. Rip is scoring 18.1 points per game on just less than 17 shot attempts per game.
Actually, Baron Davis might be holding EJ back. Gordon is only getting like 12 shots a game. At the sametime, he is putting up 18 points per game. Just think if he could get 15+ shots a night like Mayo or 20+ shots a night like Rose. EJ would be putting up 20+ a night. I don't think he has shot more than 19 shots this season in a single game. That is just not right with this kids talent.
Eric hurts himself on offense. When he learns not to stand around on offense his PPG will shoot up. He gets a ton of touches he just isn't aggressive with looking for his shots. The last 10 games though he's really doing a nice job looking for his shot. Baron isn't playing well the last 20 games but he still is by far our best playmaker so I doubt he's holding EJ back.
EJ should be getting more shot attempts per game, a good example would be the game vs. the Suns. EJ was 5-6 (14 points) shooting in the first half. When the 3rd quarter rolled around, the Clippers didn't get him but 9 touches in the 3rd quarter. Out of his 9 touches, the Clippers scored 13 points. The Clippers only scored 18 points the entire 3rd quarter. The Clippers had 28 possessions in the 3rd. I just feel that if Clippers want to succeed, they need to get EJ the ball.
lol yall a bunch of lil followers, i bet most of yall were gonna say shit about the song until you saw another comment saying the song sucks, then you just felt like looking cool and fitting in with the crowd so you said the song sucks. please GTFO.
The Clippers need a major clean out. Keep Taylor, Gordon, Thornton, Griffin and Jordan. Get rid of everybody else start fresh. Tell Dunleavy to pack his bags and find a new young coach that can help this kids.
i compare him more to baron davis than ray allen...shot is nowhere near as good as ray allen's is. im sure he's going to get better but i dunno about that level. but he's very good, no question.
HAHA serious? Shot not nowhere near as good as Ray Allen? Ray is a what 10 year league vet? Gordon as a rookie shoots almost as good as Allen after 11 years.. watch your mouth son ;p.
Hahaha, Baron Davis is not even considered a shooter. BD this season is shooting less than 40% from the field and less than 30% from 3pt. Eric Gordon, on the other hand, is shooting 48% from the field and 38% from 3pt.
I'm sorry if you're an EJ fan bud but i'm a diehard Clippers fan. I probably watch way more games than you. I never said BD was a good shooter but a good playmaker. Gordon stands around on offense period. Don't quote one game dude. I can quote many of games where he shoots 5-17 because he's standing around jacking up shots. EJ is our best scorer but his lack of touches IS his own fault.
Yah, if you can quote "many" games where he shoots 5-17 I want you to go ahead and do that. The fact of the matter is he rarely gets 17 shot attempts in a game. He has only 6 games this season with atleast 17 shot attempts. He is a combined 45 of 103 shooting for 44% shooting. He is also averaging 21 points in those games. If those numbers don't tell you something, then you aren't watching. He needs the ball more, he needs more shot attempts, he the main piece for the Clippers future.
Just did a little more math for you. EJ has shot 15 or more shots in a game 14 times this year (that includes the 6 games that he attempted atleast 17 shots). In those 14 games EJ is shooting 46% and scoring 21 points per game. Please explain to me how these numbers don't tell you that his teammates need to get him the ball more?
Ok i'm with you here but you're in denial about the big picture. I've already agreed Eric is our best scorer and our future franchise player along with Griffin. What I don't agree on is you're claiming it's the teams fault he's not getting shots. I would love to see a stat on how many of his baskets come from cutting to the rim, moving off screens or moving around. Most of his shots are jumpers and he's normally been a catch and shoot scorer. He needs to be more aggressive. It's his own fault.
he looks a lot more bulked up this year than years past. he also doesn't seem to get as much air as he used to. but he still has that uncanny range, and can stop on a dime with that crossova.
Cant wait til Baron gets moved on and EJ takes control at the point. Imagine the numbers he will put up if the ball goes through his hands EVERY possession.
All right settle down i live in the other side of the world to you guys don't get a lot of college ball. Only what i see on sports center and in march.
once this guy improves his creativity, handles, n creating for his teamates hes gonna be hard to dfend.... let this guy run da pointn pls get a new coach
Its interesting to see Eric Gordon gone to the NBA. He was just at high school here at North Central. Hahaha kids with talent go many places these days.

Eric hurts himself on offense. When he learns not to stand around on offense his PPG will shoot up. He gets a ton of touches he just isn't aggressive with looking for his shots. EJ should be getting more shot attempts per game, a good example would be the game vs. the Suns. EJ was 5-6 (14 points) shooting in the first half. The Clippers need a major clean out. Keep Taylor, Gordon, Thornton, Griffin and Jordan. Get rid of everybody else start fresh. Tell Dunleavy to pack his bags and find a new young coach that can help this kids.

couldve been up there close to ROY if the dumb coach would'nt have waited so long to give him more minutes
jminor01 2 years ago
i compare him more to baron davis than ray allen...shot is nowhere near as good as ray allen's is. im sure he's going to get better but i dunno about that level. but he's very good, no question.
daprophecy 2 years ago
HAHA serious? Shot not nowhere near as good as Ray Allen? Ray is a what 10 year league vet? Gordon as a rookie shoots almost as good as Allen after 11 years.. watch your mouth son ;p.
clippersfan2004 2 years ago
Hahaha, Baron Davis is not even considered a shooter. BD this season is shooting less than 40% from the field and less than 30% from 3pt. Eric Gordon, on the other hand, is shooting 48% from the field and 38% from 3pt.

@AndrewHeroJr
EJ is our best scorer but his lack of touches IS his own fault.
clippersfan2004 1 year ago
Yah, if you can quote "many" games where he shoots 5-17 I want you to go ahead and do that. The fact of the matter is he rarely gets 17 shot attempts in a game. He has only 6 games this season with atleast 17 shot attempts. He is a combined 45 of 103 shooting for 44% shooting. He is also averaging 21 points in those games. If those numbers don't tell you something, then you aren't watching. He needs the ball more, he needs more shot attempts, he the main piece for the Clippers future.
AndrewHeroJr 1 year ago
Just did a little more math for you. EJ has shot 15 or more shots in a game 14 times this year (that includes the 6 games that he attempted atleast 17 shots). In those 14 games EJ is shooting 46% and scoring 21 points per game. Please explain to me how these numbers don't tell you that his teammates need to get him the ball more?
AndrewHeroJr 1 year ago
Ok i'm with you here but you're in denial about the big picture. I've already agreed Eric is our best scorer and our future franchise player along with Griffin. What I don't agree on is you're claiming it's the teams fault he's not getting shots. I would love to see a stat on how many of his baskets come from cutting to the rim, moving off screens or moving around. Most of his shots are jumpers and he's normally been a catch and shoot scorer. He needs to be more aggressive. It's his own fault.

yep and i think the knicks gm should be fired for it!
benstewarthelm 2 years ago
he looks a lot more bulked up this year than years past. he also doesn't seem to get as much air as he used to. but he still has that uncanny range, and can stop on a dime with that crossova.
APviKINGsz28 2 years ago 4
Cant wait til Baron gets moved on and EJ takes control at the point. Imagine the numbers he will put up if the ball goes through his hands EVERY possession.

have his handles gotten any better? i remember watching him when IU was playing on espn last year and he couldnt handle it for shit
55955955 2 years ago
from what i have seen his handles are far better and he has good court vision. Way better than i thought it was.
