The road gives you your first view off the mill as you are only about 1/4 a mile away from the turn. Driving that quarter mile isnt enough to change the apparent size of the mill because of the far greater distance to it. But the closer you get, the smaller the other road objects get at the end of the road before it turns, and it tricks your mind into the illusion that the mill is getting smaller. Although this and the other videos dont really show it as well.
The trees on both sides of the street create this "tunnel vision". The mill stays the same size, but because at first the opening at the end of this "tunnel" allows a hole big enough to see a part of the mill, as you get closer the hole gets larger, allowing you to see more of the mill, therefore tricking your eyes to make you r brain think that it is shrinking. Going the other way is even better!
yeah. i live in port, it is pretty weird. i have no clue how it works, but i saw it a long time ago, and still wonder how it works till this day. i pass it a lot, and still don't quite understand.
