I found the best way to clean controller shells and buttons is to wash them with soap. It cleans the entire shell, removes any oil or anything really, and completely restores it to brand new(or darn near it!). The only downside is you have to wait for the shell to dry but once you've put it back together you'll have a brand newish controller.
I absolutely love your background with the different N64 controllres, what got you into collecting for the N64? how did you mount the contrllers? thanks and keep up the great work
Some more comments: you never covered cleaning the bottom half of the controller which has the Z button, which is removable. I typically remove it and clean that button out. I also use a q-tip and clean out the holes that the screws fit into, which tends to get dusty and dirty. Also I clean the inside areas where the memory pack fits into, that can get real dirty. Finally, I clean the crevasse area by the joystick which also tends to accumulate dirt/grime.
You have a typo in your video's title Mel. It's spelled "Assembling"... you're missing the "m".
As an FYI, you can replace just the "joystick" part of the thumbstick assembly. I've done it several times, including on a Millennium 2000. It is difficult because it is spring loaded, but to an experienced expert it is easy. This process of replacing the "guts" of the thumbstick assembly actually fixes the "loose stick" problem.
Can you sell me n64 controllers?

Being bored, I decided to hook up the old n64 for some classic Zelda play.
Lil' joystick was old and sloppy so, being a guy, I decided to just open it and shit just started flying everywhere.
You can actually open that little joystick panel, and clean it.. but I couldn't figure out how to reassemble the rest of the remote.
I found this vid (may 2011? dam didn't know ppl still did n64 vids) and it helped!
Thanks. I can finally play Zelda.

Awesome. This is going to help me replace my N64 analog stick. I'm looking into getting a replacement as mine have gotten loose.

@ddr2nite Thanks I fixed it. And I know, I just didn't want to get into that in this video.
