Who is harmed? I'll tell you who. Just ask all the unemployed construction workers, restaurant workers, landscape workers who is harmed. Ask the meat-packing plant employees how much they used to make 10 or more years ago before illegal aliens undercut their wages. The only victim is really the undocumented worker. Because our system is broken, they are forced to accept exploitation. Now, this may be a better option than they have in their home country. But America can and should do better.

Also, incidentally, the Chinese did come here and work for very little. In fact, we have the indentured servitude of many Chinese to thank for a large part of our railroad system. Thanks to this and African's work, along with some other advantages, the US been able to dominate the World economy. I know many undocumented workers. Every one I know works incredibly hard, pays taxes and social security (although they'll never see any of it) so that their parents and siblings in Mexico can survive. Nearly all are not criminals (unless you want call yourself one too for not wearing a seatbelt), but some are. Nearly all poor US citizens are not criminals either, but some are.

Your arguments have been made about every immigrant group. The difference between "illegal" and "legal" immigration is very hazy. You were arguing on the street with somebody who knows the law better then anybody I know. He is a brilliant graduate of a top law school and has carefully considered the laws that have been broken. Unlawful presence is a civil violation, the same as skipping school or speeding. This is why lawyers are not given to the undocumented upon detention.

We are a nation of laws and our government has not been enforcing immigration laws for over 30 years. We hadn't noticed till we started seeing Reconquistas protesting in the streets with Mexican flags. Their own arrogance has been their undoing. It is not impossible to deport them all and we wouldn't have to do it - it is called self-deportation. You remove the incentives and they will stop coming and THEY WILL LEAVE. 1) Undocumented Immigrants are a very important part of our economy
