Sound and graphics were pretty superior I thought at the time! Still loved this game :-) Many late nights and tired school mornings spent playing this one :)
But this is on trainer mode! The thing is, every time he hits a monster, he doesnt lose a life! Give me a real walkthrough, and I'll believe you! This is perhaps the hardest game I've ever played!
I played this game when I was in my teens and I'm now 40, it has to be one of the most difficult games for the Spectrum 48k and you made it look easy! Good work.
This was a real tough game and I managed to complete it a couple of times but there were certain bits where I just couldn't figure out waht to do and always lost a life/lives - Thanks to the poster who explained what the coded message was as I never figured that out either - Great Video and Top skills :)
@DieBittereWahrheit.. It's a 2D platformer. This may come as a shock to you but games weren't always in 3D. 8-bit computers had limited capabilites and most games were coded by a single person. They had to be creative in order to get the most out of these machines. If you weren't around in the 1980s or had no interest in games, then you will have missed out on how games evolved.
@jezz2k I think you were very harsh to DieBittereWahreit. I am 31, and my childhood is steeped in c64 gaming.
I am not some post-2000 Playstation kid and even I think this game looks totally messed up. In a good way, yes, but still messed up. Kinda like what Jet Set Willy would have looked like if it was programmed by Syd Barrett.
Thats great i love it!!!i remember my youth now when i had zx!!and i was strugling with that beautiful game.awesome!!!!i am thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man im happy i found this video, I loved this game when i was a kid, and though u only needed 5 dynamites to unlock the safe. The guy who plays this is so skillful. Hats off to him. I had it on cpc6128
I've been reading some article about ZX computers when DDan came on my mind. I remember being playing it long time ago, 1988 i think. I was 6yo kid that time, living in communist Czechoslovakia, where only computer worth to buy was Didaktik Gama - our ZX Spectrum clone - and DDan was one of the games available in my town. I enjoyed it a lot even I've never been able to complete it. So thanks for seeing it now, after so many years, it was great.
I own the C64 version of the game. As a little kid I didn't know the purpose of the game ("What the heck I'm supposed to do?) so I was just exploring. Big and varied game for Manic Miner's fans.
So... many... sprite... variations! God, they sure liked their enemy types. This is the kind of game I would have spent the five minutes loading for about two minutes play before I decided it was too hard and resetting. But somehow I really liked the whole process you had to go through to play the games, almost as much as playing them... if that makes sense!
This game felt extremely difficult and even unfair, but it still did feel remotely possible. This is something I cannot say about another adventuring and collecting game: Cauldron 2.
I love the seemingly endless parade of different sprites running pell-mell all over the screen, and it's very colorful too. Looks hard as hell. One thing though, the sounds could wake the dead and are just obnoxious beyond description, even by 80s standards.
Very disappointed. I´ve played it since 88 and never finished it. I´ve expectating a suitable ending, but it´s crap. Oh, my. But, anyway, thanks for showing it and congrats.
lol, that's the beauty of C64 though. I love hearing people complain about endings to gears of war or halo and stating "it just sets up for another sequel." You just point them at this and they know they have no right to complain =D
one of my first games and most favorites all time on C64 (better colours and music but the rest is identical).
very hard to play also.. i am truly impressed by the skill!!! just amazing!!! :)
i was playing Dan on C64 emulator just now (unlimited lives ;) and i wasnt able to pick up the TOP SECRET documents, so i looked up the walkthrough and found this.. when i finally was on the way to win the game i fell into the well and lost my life in the water !!!! :(
I used to play this in the late 80's and I liked playing this game. I always lose my lives and never finnished to collect all the dynamites. The most I ever collected was 4 which was fantastic. I am glad that I have seen the ending to this popular game. The person who completed this game was excellent player as I thought this game was rock hard.
This game was psycho. It begs the question: since Dan went into that crazy house with the intention of blowing up the safe, why did he not just bring his own dynamite?!?!
(PS - if there was a blimp ride as a prize for winning the game, I can understand why they made it so hard. I think this one time I managed to collect 3 dynamites. That was a great day!)
This used to be my favpourite game as a child back in the early 80's Man it was so hard, i dont think i ever completed a game on my amstrad due to the togh nature of games like this. Was good to watch this game, i walk into almost every god damn thing thing going.
Wow, finaly after 30years I can see how this game ends :-)

Gotta ask. What IS that anagram at the end- "NRILIMLUG IFOVM LP"
urbycoz 4 years ago
1. First off, it is NRIILIHLUG IFOVH LP.
2. If you use a mirror alphabet cipher (where a=z, b=y, c=x, etc.), the result is MIRRORSOFT RULES OK.
3. The phone number doesn't work (I suspect because Mirrorsoft is now defunct). The prize, by the way, was a ride in the Mirrorsoft blimp.
4. Acclaim Games is the successor to Mirrorsoft. I'm going to call them on Monday to see if that prize is still valid. Hee, hee.
