This report gives an interesting insight into the live and works of those wonderful animals. They´ve been fascinating me all my life. Beavers own some qualities which one often misses in humans nowadays:
Beaver couples stay together all their lives, and older siblings take part in looking after/ caring for younger or newborn siblings. That makes them special, amongst other features.
Beavers create natural habitats for other species, and they deserve to be protected.
God damn muskrats. See, that's why at the end of the world I'm not even going to try growing my own crops or build a house cuz I know some guy's gunna come along, find it, kill me and take it
What? I'm talking about the muskrats taking that one chamber in the dam from the beavers, I'm not smack talking the beaver. That's a symbol of my country bro I'm not touching that
I saw one once drop a log over the edge and he started chattering and looking at it if I could understand beaver I know he would have been swearing lol

Darkmachine's comment "characteristics of beaver can't be coincidence." Are you referring to creationism? With respect, the difference between scientists and some theists: scientists want to find the TRUTH, so if given evidence indisputably contradicting their findings, they'll accept it; theists, given solid evidence before their very eyes, e.g. the mountains of evidence for evolution, continue to stubbornly deny it. That flies in the face of sanity alone. You may as well say 2+2 does not = 4.
DarkMachine, beg ur pardon but I have a BSc in Natural History. The reason species fit the niches they do so perfectly is because offspring that didn't have the genes or instincts THEY do, did not survive to procreate (life is competitive as hell!). Ipso-facto those that DID have genes for camoulflage, nest-building, hunting etc, survived. It's up to you what you wanna believe in, but you're in no position to deny what others have taken the trouble to study and seek evidence for if you haven't.
Rmephh, you said you have a BSc in Natrual History, congratulations. I never denied the hard work scientist have done regarding discoveries and I do believe that science deserves much credit. We all have benefited a great deal from it. Now regarding your comment, who or what is responsible for these various characteristics?
While science should be honored, the individual or force behind it deserves our utmost respect. We really should acknowledge God as the originator. Simple logic.
Fair enough question "who or what is responsible for these various characteristics?" The answer is genetics, driven by both mutation and believe it or not, extinction - leaving room for some empty niches to be filled, e.g. why mammals took over so well from the dinosaurs. You mentioned about getting "unnecessarily technical" - you asked, I've answered honestly with what unbiased evidence I know. God explanation is an easy way out - your choice. ...Beaver kits (babies) were cute weren't they?
rmephh, are you saying genetics evolved? How did it come to be? This will logically be traced right back to a creator(origin). This is where we depart....I wish you well and all the best for the future, take care.
This could go on until you ultimately end up asking what caused the big bang. Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation is the evidence for that. The cause? Several hypotheses, not finalised yet, so it has to be a creator to you, right? That's your presumption, not logic, cos there's no evidence for it. What there is plenty evidence for however, is why people feel the psychological NEED to believe in a creator. Hell, I only came here to watch beavers! oh...! I mean, er...
Yeah you tell them!, these who didnt have the genes for camouflage, nest-building, hunting died!. well this sounds wrong... lets see just as a logic rationalization, if they are alive at the point of reproduction one could asume that they did posses camouflage, nest-building, hunting genes, there for, their offspring would by default inherit these genes. therefor your comment lack sense. genes are passed down, however learn behavior isn't. Does it takes a BSc in natural history to be geneticist
Instinct and adaptive learning play a part depending upon species. Beavers and rodents raised in captivity exhibit the same nest building activity, e.g. tested with a captive rodent raised in a cage without bedding, which still tried digging and storing food into a corner regardless. Evidence of a genetic component has also been noted when selective breeding produced individuals with altered patterns in behaviour.
I was blown away by this video. Love those guys! They're soon to be reintroduced to the wild in Scotland where I live. I really hope no stupid tourists disturb them or their dam-building.
apart from the fact I don't think Beavers give a 'dam' about what we think of them or whence they came from... they don't need building consents or a mortgage, so they have got one over us. Watching this made my morning.
Actually...HE IS the only reason, things don't just happen. Everything came into existence because of him. Do you really think that Beavers have those interesting characteristics by chance. Did you and I simply appear from nowhere ?...come on. Nothing is by mere coincidence...nothing.
Please, dont talk about evolution. I never evloved from a monkey neither did you.
No disrespect intended, but I just don't understand people like you. Everything isn't based on science, there must be an intelligent creator who put in us the ability to reason, have feeling, think, invent....etc. So it is for an animal like a Beaver that's able to do what you saw in this video. All elements in life must have had an origin.....It's absurd and illogical to think otherwise.
Nope, indeed science adequately explains the development of reasoning and emotion. Indeed, evolution explains wonderfully such things as why we are born with talent for speaking and counting (as in, "telling the number of objects"), but not for reading (which fact is amply observed in our education systems). Indeed, we can explain everything you brought up with science, and also many things that we observe for which there is no plausible god explanation. Your argument is entirely from ignorance.
What is science? It is a way of explaining what we see around us, only in terms of things that can be absolutely known and proven and verified by independent bodies.
Like the beaver builds his lodge, mankind builds his mountain of science. You would do well to explore this mountain. Mankind has been building it for 400 years.
And of course sometimes when building the mountain we find things that haunt us. Only reason to do more research!
Hopefully someday, you'll realize that their is someone or a force behind science. As I said before, things don't simple evolve or "pop" into existence.....makes no sense
Yes, of course there may be a god but it is bad to insist. Maybe one day science will discover god.
I don't believe in faith because it's not proven. If something is unknown, that's ok I don't grief over this, I prefer to speculate, to conjecture, and perhaps to prove it right or wrong. This is the way to betterment of human society.
dont be stupid there is no got only sceince and even though it cant explain everything *yet* its already explained alot and has done things you consider to be god like.
The Earth has been around for billions of years, thousands of years is nothing compared to that. Not to mention that meaningful accumulation of knowledge has not been happening for more than the last half a millennium.
All that aside, I don't think you are smart enough to even ask a question that is both at all answerable and that science cannot answer right now. In a much more satisfying way than "god did it because he felt like it" too.
Your comments are so fancy and one would easily think you are a professor. I'll humbly admit that I've never claimed to be an intellect, but I can differentiate logic from foolishness.
Furthermore, I know many people like your self, "intellects" believe in evolution which makes no sense. Science has it's limitations which is why is cant and will not explain everything. There must be an intelligent force behind creation and it is displayed in all areas of life.
DarkMachine. Decide which God you're following. You've already made comments/ responses regarding Jehovah (Jewish) and Allah (Islam). Are you going to mention the Christian Yahweh and get a hat-trick?
You can't have all three of them, oh, but let me guess, they're all the same Judeo-Christian God. He has serious split personality disorder then as each one has mutually exclusive tendancies.
Chimaerashowcase, all the names you mentioned refers to the same God. Jehovah is one translation. What does this have to do with the point I've made?
I've been saying that everything in life must have an origin. There must be an intelligent creator behind everything in life. The characteristics of a beaver for example cant be coincidence. What's your point? Split personality? One true God, many religions...that's the case
Yes, life must have an origin, by its very existence. You however can provide no evidence that this origin was a deity.
Scientists don't say a definate, they admit they dont know but are looking for answers. You cannot apply the God of Gaps argument all the time.
Jehovah is not as simple as "one translation", yes they are referred to as the Judeo-Christian God, however, they do exhibit tendancies which conflict with one another. Christ being one.
You know what, like others here, I think you are getting unneccasarily technical. If you wish to place full trust in science despite it's failings and limititations, that really is up to you. I'm not going to talk about the many translations of God's name, that's a divsersion from the issue. Let's just respect each others views and move on.
Well chimaerashowcase, I've decided to leave this debate because I've made my point. I've read yours views as well as others and I respect them... Thats' it..
This debate has become monotonous and tiresome and I really don't see the need to go on. Your last comment indicates arrogance and rudeness. Your pitiful pride will get you nowhere. Honestly , I think you are a blind fool...so called intellect. Good bye!

I'm not going to talk about the many translations of God's name, that's a divsersion from the issue. Let's just respect each others views and move on.

What's wrong? Running scared? If you're beliefs are easily proovable and factual, why walk away from a debate?
Care to list sciences failings and limitations? The issue of Gods name came up when you defended two contradictory statements.
You are the same as any theist, presented with a rational argument you back away unable to defend your "factual" beliefs.
I don't respect your view. Respect has to be earnt in any situation and you have done nothing to earn my respect.

Good bye!

You are welcome to leave the discussion. However, the valid point is that respect does have to be earnt not just given.

They are a huge benefit to the environment, and they are absolutely not 'filthy' animals.
Loved the freeloading muskrats, talk about opportunistic.

Yes, they are very materialistic filthy-animals.
