  • Shawn is a legend in his music with the most caring heart, and i have the great privilage of him being a close family friend here in Port Elizabeth. To walk into his house and straight to his recording studio is really something else. Hope i get to see him record his new album soon :) Great Great Tribute :D

  • His music and lyrics remind me of the me that existed before I bought into the delusion that life could be measured by the size of ones mortgage, the amount of stocks/bonds owned, and before I worked so many hours that I sacrificed my marriage in the pursuit of becoming a "suit." Well, at least I never took up playing golf or watching Fox TV :-)

  • Shawn is playing in Tampa at Skipper's Smokehouse on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011. Let's go show him some love! I am in no way associated with Skipper's nor part of any kind of marketing gimmick...just my way of showing how grateful I am.

  • Oh how glorious to hear Shawn again, been too long. I used to spend hours listening to the one album I had. Shawn is in a class by himself.

  • I've heard about him yesterday on the Rai 3 radio Italian channel and I think he is wonderful, he is not very famous in Italy but he lived in Positano (South Italy) many years ago

  • I am a long time devotee of Shawn's music. My brother introduced me introduced to his music in the 70's. I cry when I listen, but it's tears of life's struggles that make it all interesting. I would love to hear him in person...is this even possible?

  • Been listening to Shawn since the 70's and never, never want to stop! Thanks for the post.....I miss his music so!

  • Can anyone download "Dream Queen"?

  • Nice pics

  • Shawn Phillips and Joni Mitchell are both geniuses. Both were "there" when I was struggling to find myself and grow up during the early 70s and overseas in the military. Exceptional talent, Joni of course had the recognition she deserved, but I'm happy see so many of Shawn's fans still around and faithful.

  • I grew up listening to him on Vinyl

  • @donavandarius I listened to him on vinyl too!

  • この曲 大好き!

    ショーンは今どこに?

  • please what's the name of this song? it's wonderful.

  • @milly8389 - there are 2 songs on this video. The first is 1. She Was Waiting For Her Mother At the Station in Torino and You Know I Love You Baby But It's Getting Too Heavy To Laugh or better known as WOMAN. The name of the song has got to be the longest song name on record. The second song is Breakthrough.

  • @SacredMojo - The longest name on record is most likely Pink Floyd's "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" from Ummagumma. :)>

  • @milly8389 she was waiting at the station in but you know I love you baby but it is getting to heavy to laugh It was in capital letters, first letter of each word.. if I remember correctly

  • The guys a genius !!!

  • We actually had him perform at our HS alumni fundraiser last summer. He's still amazing, even after seeing him at least 15 times.

  • Had all these albums. Got to see and meet Shawn more than once. If his songs don't speak to to you, you're dead. Life is good.

  • You are one of the most enjoyable instrumentalists..a true artist of the guitar and a voice to match....you are up there with the greats...saw you in East London, South Africa about twenty years ago...never stopped playing your music...thank you for that..powerful stuff..you need to tour Australia

  • Gosh almighty, how in the world did I manage to forget Shawn Phillips?!!!

MERCI Shawn Phillips

  • I still have several of these albums in lp form, need to get them recorded onto digital. Many you can't even get anymore. He was (and still is) awesome. He was my inspiration to play guitar. I hope he doesn't mind I got a girlfriend or two off playing his music, that was along time ago. Saw him in concert at least once, maybe twice. Love you and miss you Shawn.

    Audrey :)

  • @AudreyAdamsWench Almost 40 years ago, my roommate at the time, heard him sing, bought the album and gave it to me saying, "when I heard him, I knew you just had to have the album." So right she was!

  • Shawn's music touched me in a way no other has ... ever. After 25 years I just found this again. What a blessing! Thank you.

  • Son - "Wow, Shawn Phillips was way ahead of his time, huh?"

Father - "Everyone else is just behind."

Sage, bard, genius, whatever he is, he has touched the world in a beautiful way.

  • Thank you very very much for posting this... I am a bit overwhelmed with emotion because I have loved the sound of his voice for so many years and then I lost the albums. To hear this now after so long... just amazing. Shawn Phillips is one of the true enlightened beings among us. THANK YOU.

  • for every ten million tons of garbage in here,God compensates you with something like this that naturally isn't a part of this world or this life.

  • performances like this don't happen every day,do they? strange feeling, not easily defined...

  • wish someone had uploaded the "Lost Horizon" track sung by him. And "Golden Flower" and "Do You Wonder", too.

  • My sister and I saw Shawn in Moncton NB a few years ago, oh, what a joy...Just an amazing musician! Wish he'd return soon...

  • @riverviewman You're so lucky! I would love to see him!

  • I'll never forget meeting him with my sister and her friend in Chicago in his motel room. He was so down to earth and didn't act like a musician that was known and Iknow alot of people didn't hear of him but I got pictures taken with him and that was one of the best times with all the people I met with my sister being a musician herself. He is great and that dudes voice could hit so many notes. You filled a lot of lonely nights Shawn albums. Thanks sue

  • Hey Sacred Mojo - Many, many thanks your own 'Contribution.' - Much apreciated, Iam sure by all. He is an remarkable individual who has touched & enriched many, many folk...not only in person and with his music and voice, but his attitude & stance he took in life. An example to us all. We are priviledged to know him. - tai krige, south afrika

  • magnifique ! great voice

  • I first heard Shawn when I was 14 yo in Detroit. I was into alot of rock and roll and smoking alot of grass, this music gave me a new outlook on life and music. It's not all rock and roll for me. I bought his album Collaboration and listened to it over and over again, I always wanted a car that is pictured on the front of the cover!! Still do! Thanks, Shawn for your music.

At 17, this music kept me anchored and alive until things got different.

  • This Tribute to Shawn Phillips is in-freakin'-credible! You did an amazing job... and thank you soooo much!!! The sound is amazing... especially through headphones!!! This must have been a labor of love for you... and it is very much appreciated by Shawn's uber-fans!!! Make more... make more! :-)

    Health, Love & Clarity...

    PEACE & XOXO

  • Giving Shawn that gift was the most incredible other worldly experience I have ever encountered. He has given us all so much.. wanted to give back something unique be it ever so humble. I will definitely do more Shawn.. how can I not? Stay tuned :)

  • @SacredMojo You are the kind of person I want in my future world. You comprehend Shawn to the core, as I feel I do.

I have authored an awesome 170-pg. book called Fun and Consciousness which pays tribute to Shawn and especially to his words. I am awaiting feedback from Shawn on how he would like me to proceed. In the meantime, I would love to share it with you, and get your feedback.

    Health, love and clarity!

  • @SacredMojo I saw Shawn in concert for the first time last month in a small club in Evanston, IL. Sat close enough to the stage to practically feel him exhale when he sang. He was gracious enough to sign autographs afterwards and was incredibly approachable. I was so in awe that I could hardly speak. LOL He just smiled. What a great guy!

  • I was just talking to Leland Sklar who played bass on a couple of his albums yesterday about Shawn.

Leland has played bass on about every major act's album that need some bass work. Leland is amazing.

He said Shawn was and is still amazing.

He thinks he is living in S. Africa.

  • zbestwun2001 - Yes, Shawn is living in Port Elizabeth SA area with his wife and young son Liam... prior to that he was living on Willie Nelson's property for many years in Austin TX and was a volunteer Fire Fighter. He now is a volunteer coast guard when not touring. The man has amazing life and energy and uses it for the common good of all man and womankind. One of the most enlightened, elevated, conscious human beings on this small but vast planet we share.

  • Seems to be, Lee speaks highly of his talents.

  • Who might you be Mojo?

I had the opportunity to see shawn many, many times as a kid in the 70s to now.., and constantly call the Cactus to see if he's coming back...

Had finally to hang out with him and a small group and a couple of beers one of the nights at The Cactus,,,The guy is amazing....

I remember my first show at the Armadillo.... that was some heavy stuff for a kid...

    Thanks for posting this.

    Fred

  • Thanks.I have missed Shawn Phillips and actually have a personal connection, many years ago

  • shawn phillips has one of the greatest voices in the world, just listen and feel it.

  • Summer 1971...

    Place des Nations, Montreal

One man, one guitar under the stars

    One bottle of southern comfort...and

that voice in the still of the night

    an absolutely riveting performance

    Shawn: Montreal remembers you!!

  • That sounds awesome! (I'm also from Montreal)

  • While vacationing in Positano during one summer in the 70's, a dutch guy that I met there introduced me to Shawn. I remember visiting his house, where he had a small recording studio. It was pretty cool!

  • I will see Shawn on July 21st at the Mucky Duck in Houston... again. Why he is not at Cynthia woods Mitchell Pavilion (biggest Houston venue, hosting bands like Rush among others) is just an indication of the shallowness of today's 'music fans' but what the heck... it is an intimate atmosphere and all the better for those of us who understand that music is a higher form of life and not just something to 'ROCK ON!!!' to. From all of us, thanks for the life that is his music.

  • i agree with you. listen to the voice and how it can stretch to such extremes. that is what attracted me to his song.

  • One of the greatest songs ever... and only Shawn can sing it so well. A forever fan.

  • I like it. The feel of his music reminds me a lot of Jimmy Spheeris, RIP.

  • OMG!!!!!!

  • Catndryer I hope you are kidding. if you are, you are very perceptive

    If not...hmmm. tell me.

    Tom in Utica

  • This song really reminds me of my brother who just turned 22 today - he loves Shawn Phillips more than most would think possible.

  • I was mesmerized by Shawn's music during the 70's. One of my favorites was a very beautiful and haunting tune called 'Lady Of The Blue Rose' from his 1973 album, 'Bright White.' Thank you for this special tribute!
