My first match i ever seen on t.v other than crappy wwf. 7yrs old watching on black/white t.v. with scrambled reception at 2 am on wed nights. good stuff.
Funny that a year later, Abdullah the Butcher would bloody Wahoo McDaniel up. JCP really took a lot of flack for airing that. In fact, the Richmond, VA stations almost took them off the air.
Oh, I remember seeing this on TV way back when. Of course the real reason it was "taken off the air" was to get folks to come to the house shows and see it live. Nice ploy!
Always seems to me the Crockett TV shows kinda' lost their flavor when they went from this little studio (like this clip) to the big arenas for tapings.
Too violent? I saw bloodier matches on Mid-Atlantic Wrestling before and after this. Jim Crockett FUBAR'd Mid-Atlantic Wrestling by the 1980's rolled around.
Jim Crockett plays "Capt. Buzzkill" and orders the match be taken off the air. Geez Jimbo, you knew it was gonna be violent and bloody so why in the blue hell did you even bother showing the beginning of the match in the first place? You could have come up with another way to hype their feud if you didn't want to show this. All in the name of hyping a feud so the fans will come out to the house shows when these two are on the card.
@elc1960 He "ordered" it taken off because he knew fans would fill the arena to see them fight some more. Give them a free taste than charge them for the full meal. It worked too as they got a ton of house show matches from this. I think George Scott was still booking at this time.
@litehouse6 Back then, something would happen on TV that would set up the house shows. On the old Georgia Championship Wrestling, how many times did Gene & Ole Anderson beat down 2 scrawny kids and continue to do so after the bell? Then Mr. Wrestling I & II would run into the ring and The Andersons would bale. Ditto for Thunderbolt Patterson & Tony Atlas if they ran out. Then they would announce a tag team match at the local house shows.
"This is a family sport." I haven't laughed so hard as when I heard that!

It was taken off "stopped" because it was boring not the reaction from the fans crockett wanted.

@mkl62 That was awesome. I remember the original footage with a bloody Wahoo being shown on television and the next week they censored it.

The Crocketts are no better than vince jr.Trunin' the cameras off cause the Brass-
Knuckles match was to hard. That match is one of the reasons made WRESTLING
very cool to watch, and fill up asses in the Arenas in all over the United States.
To read of it in WRESTLING Mags-Apter's or others and seeing it on tv was really
very cool.

Of course, Mulligan's and Duncam's sons (Barry Windham and Bobby Jr. respectively) were part of the West Texas Rednecks.
