Wrtitten (composed) by Isaak Dunayevsky in USSR for a film Jolly Fellows (1934, original title Весёлые ребята).  Original (film) version was sung by Leonid Utyosov.

One of the few Soviet-made tunes from 1930s which became popular abroad (as this version recorded by Pjotr Leshchenko).

There is a recent record on Youtube of this wonderful song by the young and superb baritone Boris Dyakov (25 years old), soloist of the Alexandrov Red Army chorus and also with him Natalya Ustinovitch filmed in Kosice, Slovakia in 2007.

After my kids and their partners had departed I was able to watch this. I loved it though apart from Heart which you had so helpfully provided I didn't understand a word of it.

Lovely images which in opinion were superior to the tango.

Oh I agree! Leschenko is just amazing! Golden voice with such tenderness and heart and soul - enough to make one cry! The polish version I haven't heard either but I have the notes and lyrics =)
