Hey bro, just to ask, I was thinking on purchasing the 2.8D LWB manual one of thease, around 100,000 miles on it. How well do you think this baby can do off-road? I mean, real ruff situations? Smash and bang? etc?
Water entering a diesel engine can hydraulic the engine. My freelander TD$ fell into a deep lake over the top of the bonnet for 10 seconds and I got it out asap and drained the air filter of water. it was ok but water got into the turbo and screwed with the maf and engine management introducing safe mode with 50% power loss. it is fine with no smoke or power loss now but changed all oil and filters. best to get a snorkel than risk damage. ps. hope your 4x4 didn't suffer terminally.
hey mate umm iv just got a izusu bighorn 1991 im gona staRT TAKING IT 4WDING BUT wats the max water leavel i should be crossing because i dnt have a snorkel yet spo i dont no wat is safe and wats not yet i do no i have to be carefull nd not get water in the gear box nd stuff but thts about it lol my mate got it stuk but thank god there was some one to pull us out the water was just about up to the exorst
fuck off diesel engines can run under water. as long as the electrics dont get saturated your fine. and because u own the 3.5 v6 ur a pajero expert. yes the pajero and the pajero sport kicks ass and so do most of the owners but its the small percentage of owners like you that let the rest of us down. just because u own it doesnt mean you know everything about it you prick
yea.. i have a 1995 montero sr 3.5L V6. but for the diesels. im pretty sure its the same for any engine. plus. prof. enough in this video.. the truck started and drove away after being flooded.
water in a diesel is worse than water in a petrol, but crossing a river i would be far more confident in a diesel with a snorkel, once the electricals of a petrol are wet, get out the winch. a diesel is combusted with the high compression ratios where as a petrol relies on the spark plugs.
In away spark plugs can SOMETIMES be a sort of 'failsafe' in petrol engine, meaning that if they do get water in the cylinders you could be lucky and the plugs get wet and cut the engine before any real damage happens, I,E, valves getting bent, conrods snapping. Just pop out the spark plugs, turn the engine over and get all the water out of the engine & airbox, replace and drive off.
hey mate umm just wondering iv just got my first car well truck umm im taking it to the river 4wd but it dosent have a snorkel im only 15 so i dnt no tht much bout 4wd just not to stop in the river but wats a safe hight water leavel to cross if u no csn u plaese tell meh
jaja!that happened to me once in my Montero but when the car starts to turn of ur supossed to get the Check Engine lamp and after that it dies but what you do is put it nutral and rev it and it just goes away but if you don't your stuck!
horrible thing to do but since the engine acts as a vacume eventually all the water will be out, the rust wont though

all the commentators that said use snorkel correction you can just drive slowly so the engine won't get drunk.

i did the same thing to my 04' discovery. $450 latter and it was fine. learned my lessen.

the problem is that you went too fast!! you need to drive slow in the water...

hub height is a safe debth, it only takes a teaspoon of water to get in and blow your motor

to all these people asking for the safe wading depth of these trucks,
it's about a foot shallower than he just went ;)
miniboy84 2 years ago
everyone else made it across fine
the water could have been another few inch deeper
the air intake is above the driver's front wheel arch... keep the water below that, and you'll be fine

Once water gets into a diesel engine, it's gone. If your lucky it maybe not but fit a snorkel if you're going to do this again.
Our Pajero is Petrol version 3.5 V6 so were more confident to cross a river like this. Or shall I say we most unlikely to have this drama.
Either way, Pajeros are awesome. Just fit the snorkel and this will never happen.
