I don't think it's realistic how they look at the camera, because even in "real" reality shows they never look at the camera................. unless their really, really pissed.lol.
Yeah it is weird. If you watch the bloopers you would see that they were both cracking up during filming of this that they had to film it several times so I guess they just left it like this
it doesn't have to be a contest. both shows are funny in this canadian's opinion and contrary to some comment's you do not have to be british to appreciate the subtleties of the humour. also gervais himself has sung praises to the american version and at the end of the day all that matters to me is that they both have me pissing myself laughing.
I love the British version alot more because it seems more natural, its supposed to be real life and I can't help feel like in the US version they are tryin too hard to be funny, this is seperated from a normal comedy because its like a documentary and its supposed to feel that way not as if your watching actors which is what its like with the US version.
Both versions are hilarious, but I do prefer our US version because it's not as dark (I love that it's goofy and over-the-top and not so "real"), Dwight is sooooo much funnier than Gareth, and Jim/Michael are by far more pleasing to this girl's eyes than Tim/David. So, yeah, I guess that makes me yet another shallow American who doesn't get the subtlies of British comedy , but hell, that's OK :)
oh, who cares? Both shows are funny. Sadly, I think the Chaucer/Shakespeare gaffe would be lost on most of my fellow countrymen back home in the US :(
Yeah that gaffe was one of my favourite gaffes on the show. It's so funny it's unreal. Only a guy like David Brent would do that. Most people may remark on the Canterbury tales bit but to go to Chaucer let alone Shakespeare is just ridicolous it's funny.
im a us office guy. and that didnt make me laugh. i found out why. we dont understand each other's language. yeah its english, but the accent/jokes are totally diferent from america. i dont know how funny this was to UK people, but to me (US) not funny. Boring.
No disrespect but I am Australian. The US version is partially funny because it copied 100% off the BBC version. When I first watched the BBC Office, I didn't get it. Its about subtlety and a large proportion of Americans don't understand subtle humour. ^^David is a strange guy, Michael from the US is trying to be like him. Is that funny?
The US Office is more of an overt sitcom, whereas the UK one is more like real life. Most people who've worked in an office have had a boss like David Brent and can relate to it, and that's what makes it so funny.
You're so true.David brent is such a dickhead.Every body 's got a boss like him. What 's makes the BBC series so much better. We can feel how absurd Brent becomes in front of a camera, try to show a better image of himself. The BBC version is the best piece of comedy I 've seen since Alan Partridge.Awesome
How can you not find that funny man? The bit at the start, only a guy like David Brent would do that. Most people may remark on the Canterbury tales bit but to go to Chaucer let alone Shakespeare is just ridicolous it's funny. The bit when he tries to hid is age and the bit where he tries to be a natural philospher is just hilarious.

Hehehe. The out-takes for this scene are amazing. I think it gets to like 26 takes or something!

Rick Gervais is simply amazing...he is just as good as Monty Python.
The way he looks at the camera from time to time and smiles is so classic!
