I've been using SYO for some time and it's second to none. It's not an overnight thing, but once you get the momentum and the "content pressure" out there the results are quite something else.
Another thing is article-traffic to your website is in my experience between 350% and 500% more likely to opt-in than casual SEO traffic (and that's where the money is - in the list).
For me, clicks are better than backlinks (not the majority view, I know).
Keyword research can hang some people up and keep them from taking action. Don't fall into that trap. At some point you need to move and move massively. All this pre-planing is good but don't use it as an excuse to not take action.

@RogerThats0k Would recommend something like Wordtracker ... but there's no real replacement for just diving in and doing the hard graft, you get to really understand your market
@submityourarticle to add to this... if you understand your market you'll write better articles, have better content for them to land on FROM the articles and make more sales and make them at a higher price. I maintain it's better to enter a competitive niche you understand and enjoy enough to stick at it than to enter an easy one you find as dull as watching paint dry.
