ppl are always campaigning for the elimination of nukes but without them im almost certain we would have already seen ww3 and it would have made ww2 look like a warm up
I live opossite to where their based in faslane I live grenock so I'm not safe coz theirs 2 nuclear reactors nearby and faslane(nuclear submarines and bombs) so if it goes up I'm screwed
@jamscon13 If all of the warheads at faslane went off (which they never could) it wouldn't matter if you lived opposite the base or 200 miles away you wouldn't stand a chance
there hasnt been a world war lately due to the possession of these weapons and as long as they are held bythe current permenant members of the UN security council it is very unlikely they will ever be used. Let the nutcases get them then its a different case you cant deter them people and the alternative is..... If you think what I think then the alternative is unpalatable best keep the balance of power in favour of the western democracies
Yeah gfkeenan, like nobody was able to hold or express an opinion before the advent of nuclear weaponry! People like you always advocate war as a means of peace....aint working is it mate? The video is cool but anyone who says nuclear weapons are working as a deterrent is in a dream world. All they have done is make the planet more unstable and they have contributed nothing to the demise of armed agression.
but has there been any big wars between the superpowers since nuclear weapons appeared? smaller proxy wars are going to happen but the age of massive global was is hopefully over thanks to the threat of MAD
Youre not a physicist are you? One nuclear submarine can hit a good few of the world cities, but doesnt have a chance in hell of destroying the world even once.
Could've done without the music, it was way too cheesey for me. A better choice would've been just a simple military snare quietly tapping away quietly in the background.
Not a bad video but this to me seems like a "limited strike" method, I don't see them being used on a global scale, unless we were using them in conjunction with France, Germany, America and all the other nations currently under the treaty. But hey, I could be wrong.
The Trident missile is one of the best submarine launched nuclear tipped ballistic missile. It also is one of the cheapest.
Lest Britain decide to abandon Nuclear Weapons altogether (unlikely, considering the diminished role they would then have in the World) I really see no alternative but to keep and refurbish the Tridents.
You knob the firings are done with test warheads! Do you honestly believe that this world would be safer without this deterent? Esspecially when you have unsettled states that own or are looking to own them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Of course they're test warheads - thanks for pointing out the obvious, knob.
No, I don't think this so-called 'deterrent' (conveniently forgetting that nuclear weapons are part of an arms _race_) makes the world safer. They certainly make it a more retarded, bitter, fearful place.
What I object to is military propaganda set to crappy house music trying (and possibly succeeding in your case) to convince people that such things things are 'awesome', 'rock' and are a 'necessary deterrent'.
So why mention that they would destroy millions if you knew that they were test warheads? By the way its not military propaganda its actually just a video showing an actual firing of a trident missile as it happened. Yea its got shitty music but navy vids always do. There is no way that we will be able to totally rid this world of nuclear missiles, it would be nice if we could but we can't that is why they are a necessary evil!
DavidLaurence..exactly mate. Im currently in the Royal Marines Commando's..been in 10 ..currently aged 26 joined at 16..and i agree fully with you. They are a valid detterent to countries such as Iran and others who are clearly not responsible enough to own ICBM's through the possibility of use.
i would rather we lived in a world w/o nuclear weapons, but seeing as we live in a world where even a couple of "rogue states" have them its important we keep them to deter "rogue states" from waging war on us.

@colour749 the idea is so noone can take your missiles out. Plus, are you volunteering to live next door to some?

@madbob73
if there was a nuclear war the cities would be taken out aswell so as i live in birmingham we are probably the 2nd biggest target in the uk.
anyway good point about the missiles getting taken out

Yes, cheesy music I agree, but makes a change from that boring, hackneyed 'Requiem for a Dream' crap.

people fail to realise 16 missiles per sub does not mean 16 nuclear strikes, each missile can carry 12 warheads.
So its 16*12 nuclear warheads per sub,& yes enough for one sub to destroy every major city of earth.
TheEnglish4ever 2 years ago
The missiles can hold up to 12 warheads each, but the royal navy have put a limit to 48 warheads per sub. So that is only 3 per missile.
llamakin899 2 years ago
1 sub can not destroy the world it is capable of wiping out every major city in any country though

I was on HMS Vengeance STBD Crew and can confirm just the one nuclear submarine can destroy the world 6x over!

Propaganda me up! Woooo! Royal Navy warcrimes... We rock.
If a Trident launch happened in real life, it would shortly be followed by the deaths of thousands or millions of people and environmental disaster.
What a bunch of shit.

The fact you have the right to hold and express your opinion lets me know that these weapons have done/are doing there job.
I hope that we never have to fire a nuclear missile; but think it would be foolish and naive to think that we could do without them.
