The 12-71 twin turbo was often used as a STARTER MOTOR on General Electric Frame 5 and 6 gas turbine generator sets. They would idle for about 15 seconds and go wide open for the next 4 minutes or so, then return to idle and shut off. They drove a Twin Disc torque converter to spin the turbine to 20% speed, then the jaw clutch would disengage as the turbine came to life. I got so much of a woodie from the DD that I bought a 3-53 on a trailer just to hear it run.
