I adore this song and have become a huge fan of Hamlet Gonashvili. But I am also wondering what is up with the dude's hair in the video? Not Hamlet's hair - the guy in the scene with the girl.
ppl who need translation or are complaining about video quality are not into this at all. just close your eyes and listen, this music is an universal language. and who cares about the video quality! come on!
I am from Ukraine but I love Georgian music since I remember myself. It's so beautiful. I would say this is the music of my soul. I love this song. It makes my heart cry even though I don't understand what is about. It takes me to heaven.
@Vampwatch1462 It does not mean Hello Earth actually, it was used by Kate Bush in a song called 'Hello Earth', I think. This song is about a man who passes a river and along its banks sees a woman. Man says something to that woman, she does not like it, gets upset. The story of unrequited love in a way. Genius of it is that it's presented in really simple lyrics (if you could call it that really), but is filled with emotion.

Quite exquisite - this is ensemble singing of the very highest quality - with a spiritual dimension that crosses all cultural barriers. Thank you for posting this rare gem.
Надо же! Видела Носферату много лет назад, и тогда показалось, что это был григорианский хорал, хотя почувствовалось в нем что-то знакомое. "Как хоралы похожи на грузинское пение" - подумалось тогда. :)Гениальное пение!
@clemdane Miami Vice scene: It was lame. An assassination attempt, as I recall. A man on the run from another man. Does total injustice to the lyrics of the song! In Nosferatu, it was played during an overhead shot of a plague scene in a city square. Rats, people acting wildly. Again, an injustice to the song's gentle lyrics and meaning - but memorable.
I first heard Georgian music in Nosferatu, and the piece blew me away. I recently watched the film again (after hearing a number of versions of this) and was somewhat surprised to note that the wonderful solos weren't even included; they had just jammed all the choral bits together. Very odd. They should have used this version!
benjaros2, no actually it's a Georgian medieval hymn We Venerate Thy Cross performed by Rustavi Choir (it's indicated in the Big Lebowski credits), I simply confused it with Tsintskaro, if I'm not mistaken Tsintskaro and another Georgian national song Sisa Tura are used in Ewan McGregor movie The Serpent's Kiss (1997).
This is one of the greatest Georgian folk songs, by the way I think Tsintskaro can be faintly heard in Coen Brothers' hilarious movie The Big Lebowsky, odd coupling if you ask me, but nevertheless...:-)

I have seen on another youtube site that this song is a lament for sailors lost in the Black Sea... are there additional lyrics that describe this?
I'm trying to understand why it's so mournful. Is it a beautiful woman's scorn or a lament to the dead?

Its title loosely translates as, `By the Stream.` its difficult to translate ,lyric is difficult.
