This kind of reminds me of John & Yoko, with the main difference being that Rachel's music and voice are much more palatable than Yoko's. Yoko was intelligent, and talented in her own way, but her avant garde sensibilities were difficult to stomach (maybe that was the point, anyway). It's great to see that Pete has brought together the two loves in his life. Good for him! My wish is for him to have the same kind of happiness that his music has brought me...
Why do you feel this is depressing? I find it to be reassuring. Sure there is someone that is experiencing a hard time in the lyric, but they are being consoled and comforted. I think it's real and genuine.
