@MrScottishJamie Robert Burns was a man of equality, so whoever told you that, was clearly a Scottish nationalist themselves. he was a patriotic Scottish Nationalist that was open minded. That's why he could write songs like 'Bonnie Banks O' Devon', but that's right, you don't see nationalists mention that do you?
That's because Nationalists only choose to listen or see what they want to hear or see.
@MrScottishJamie You are aware Jamie, Robert Burns was born during a time Scotland just gave it's independence up. You can't compare today, where we live in a world where we've been in a Union for 300 years, to Robert Burns who lived during a time period that was very different.
Did Robert Burns face the Great Depression of the early 1900's? Of course not, was the masonic lodge the same thing he was a member of back then, as it is today? No.
@MrScottishJamie Jamie, you are not in a recession, your currency is not picking up, you are heading, for a Great Depression that is far worse than the early 1900's, and this is the same Scotland, that wants to be free during that time period. And no, our currency is not making a come back, there is not even an if, but or a maybe. The reality is Jamie, you aren't even quarter the way through what the news funny enough, tried to claim, was rock bottom. wait till you see the riots then.
@MrScottishJamie People don't understand, why there were Cash4Gold adverts, why Gold and Silver is being bought like mad, because you ARE heading for a Great Depression. That's why I said, for there to be winners, there has to be losers. You are about to see an enormous gap between the rich and poor. This is no laughing matter, this is the truth.
I laugh at anyone, who tries to claim that this is a recession. For the simple reason, our currency is going down the toilet.
@MrScottishJamie Listen to it? I've listened to his music for over 3 years straight. Notice how I mentioned he's a Scottish Nationalist. But what certain closed minded Scottish Nationalists miss out..
I have listened to this several times and have so much to say, but then I go to other Robert Burns videos to learn more about him and my herritage. I truly thank you, and look forward to any additions you make. Wallace
@wallyozzy I can safely say Wallace, the more you learn for who he was and what he stood for, the more admiration and respect you'd have for the guy, you'd see why he's loved throughout Scotland. There are certain folk that don't realise it's not just a bunch of poems, but in general, who he was is what is to be admired. You only need to research 'A Man Was Made To Mourne' to see what he stood for.
I've been watching LOST lately, and if you've seen it or not .. you look/remind me of Desmond xD i think he is scottish as well actually 8D If you don't know who he is, Google him =)
@MiningEagles lol just saw a funny video clip of him 'Brotha compilation' hahaha I think he does have that slight accent, although that video isn't best representation lol
@DrinkToIreland Aye buddy, a lot of his work certainly proved influential. If he influenced someone like Bob Dylan, then that would sum up the stature of who he was :)
@ScottMcK9 indeed :) believe it or not. The writer of "Of Mice and men" john steinback got the name of the book from a line of his poem "tae a mouse" the verse read "But mousie, thou art no thy-lane, In proving foresight may be vain: The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men, Gang aft agley, An' lea'e is nought but greif an' pain, For promis'd joy!" an Amazing poem one of my favorites second to only "Ye banks & Braes" :) my favorite poet love all his poems glad you made this video :) Cheers!
@DrinkToIreland I think what astonished me, was in India, the taxi drivers play the song Ye Banks and Braes,' yet they don't even realise it's a Rabbie Burns song, and I think in Malaysia or something, another famous Burns song is played regularly that they don't know it's Burns that wrote it.
The guy's work is definitely world famous. You'd love a lot of his other work mind.
@DrinkToIreland I think having the opportunity, If I get the chance this year, I'll probably go and visit the Burns Cottage so that I can catch a lot of video there and of the famous bridge. Although, there's no guarantee I'd be allowed to take video, but would definitely be something I'd love to show for my channel :)
@DrinkToIreland Without question :) plus it looks a beautiful area. One thing you will see, is the very pen set he wrote with sitting in a case, to me that is like seeing Wallace's sword, difference is, you actually know Burns wrote with that very pen set :) plus Ayrshire is relatively close to Glasgow, depends where you end up in Scotland though.
@ScottMcK9 aye. I've narrowed it down to Inverness or Glasgow :) but yes the pen that was used by one of the greatest poets ( in my opinion at least :P ) to write those magnificent poems with. Is indeed like seeing wallaces sword. Which I am also going to see :P
@DrinkToIreland Good on you bud, you'd love either city :) as for Rabbie, he's the undisputed greatest Bard that's ever lived, so your opinion isn't far off the truth :D that's why so many Scots are proud of him. anyway playing FIFA at the moment, but aye, regardless, you'll be made welcome here mate :)
@ScottMcK9 oh and I also love the poem Scots Wha Hae, the Original speech by the Great king Robert The Bruce turned into an amazing song/poem by Robert Burns :)
@ScottMcK9 "Scots wha hae wi' wallace bled, Scots wham bruce often led welcome tae your gorie bed or tae a victorie. Nows the day now's the hour see the front o' battle lour, see approach king Edwards power, Chains and slavery" and the rest, is probably one of the most motivational speeches i have ever heard and Robert Burns made it an excellent poem.
@DrinkToIreland I'm not sure where the song Scots Wha Hae came from, I'd have to research it, but I'm sure something came from Blind Harry some where. Could be wrong, but Scots Wha Hae definitely is one of the best he wrote. You'd also like 'Man Was Made To Mourne.' Translate that song and you'll see what I mean :)
@downthestreetteam lol the difference is, my face is natural unlike certain folk that get botox and all sorts done hahahahaha :D and since am in the "hoose" I tend to let myself go lol
@downthestreetteam all depends on your internet speed, to how your operating system is performing. It's like me, I'm thinking of reinstalling windows soon, it's being a pain lol and sometimes YouTube is funny in terms of my connection :) I upload most my videos to 1080. Although the ones of west highland way at 1080 were taken on normal video quality. No doubt next hiking / camping trip I'll prob take it highest. You get best video out in broad daylight I find :)
@mettanc lol quite a lot to say the least :) there's like over 300 songs on his Complete Songs Collection, and the BBC made available his whole poem collection of over 700 poems. But aye, there are quite a lot of videos on Robert Burns :)
This language is so beautiful. It really is and it looks like Robert Burns was a very interesting person that one could learn a lot by reading. Thanks for sharing.
@Thecrazyeditor A lot of what he spoke was auld Ayrshire dialect, so there are a number of words Scots don't use today, but if anything, he embraced Scots to speak the way we do without shame :) quite right :)
"Let Bourbon exult in his gay gilded lilies,
And England triumphant display her proud rose!
A fairer than either adorns the green valleys,
Where Devon, sweet Devon, meandering flows."
