He didn't say that freewill IS god. He said that god allows for freewill. God will not coerce anyone to obey Him. You can't exclude Matthew 19:9...just because Jesus only said it once doesn't take anything away from it's truth. He clearly says "...and marry another..."
the danger of allowing pastoral issues to override the clear meaning from Scripture. as a pastor, this is the most reoccurring problem dealt w/. i can definitely see the advantages of 'lightening up', esp. for those who have been left by an adulterer. but when i read the context of the 3 gospels, Jesus' discussions regarding "one-flesh" are w/in the framework of the difficulty of living w/in His kingdom. we play by His rules in His kingdom, not ours!
Matthew 19:9 is clear. Paul further stated that a believer is NOT BOUND when a non-believer departs, refusing to be a spouse any longer. Lutzer is spot on.
I, (as a pastor) have moved away from the position presented in the video, to now NOT being willing to perform any wedding ceremony where a divorced person is involved (whose ex-husband/-wife is still alive).
Hard? For some it's a cross to carry. And that belongs to following Jesus (Mat.16:24)!
@thetruthsetsfree when one looks at the text alone, the only ground for remarriage is the death of the partner. is divorce allowed? yes, only for porneia. however, Jesus mentions only divorce. check out matt. 5; mark 10; luke; rom. 7; 1 cor. 7 as well. this is the view someone like piper would also espouse (from Sola Scriptura)
I would add that when Jehovah divorced Israel for her persistent adulteries, it was always with a view to having her back. He never went searching for another bride, and would never have done so, even if Israel had never returned. This, too, should be the response of the spouse who has been cheated on and divorced. I don't believe there is ever any grounds for remarriage, unless it is to your original spouse.
I have great respect for this man and I applaud the fact that he regards this matter so very seriously,as he ought.
Yahshua allowed divorce, and divorce only, not remarriage, upon the grounds of fornication. He went on to say that not only would the woman be commiting adultery upon remarriage while her husband is still alive, but the man would be just as guilty.not the mention the new spouse the offended party were to marry.
When her husband is dead, she is free from that law.
"And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried OR be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife."
So stay single, or be reconciled, in faith that God can work a miracle! How can He if there is remarriage? Only an UNBELIEVER will divorce, & remarry, rather than wait on God & obey these (often ignored!) verses! Have faith !!!
@Anastazia333 See Playmobibledotcom for an explanation of these verses. You can't use prayer to force a spouse to keep their vows. Not even God will overide freewill.
What about physical abuse? Do you just move out and get a restraining order, but stay married?

The church has no business in marriages.

This is spot on. Unpalatable sometimes, but truth is just the way things are, scripture just that.

More bible texts: Mat.5:32, Luk.16:18
Added:
1. Life is short - let's please Him, not ourselves.
2. God sets the lonely in families (Ps.68:6). The New Testament CHURCH should function as a big family!

Ok, but what about 1 Corinthians 7:10-12
"And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried OR be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife."
