This is an utter pile of crap. They should have stuck to the original 11 episodes. This series is great, but this episode sure comes close to ruining it.
If you're trying to imply that Shiro and Aina especially are going to live in sunshine and happiness after the events of the series like I think you are, they're either sociopaths or insultingly shallow and unrealistic characters. Learn2psychology kthxbai.
One: Not made by sunrise only distributed by them in America/Canada
Two: This is after the events of the series. In the battle at the mountain Anya resolved that her brother had to die. She showed signs she doubted his mission from the time she met Shrio, and my guess is she reached this conclusion a long time ago. Shrio lost everything and only had hatred left until he met Anya. Yes I think they went through PTSD, but love can work wonders. Only the sad think not.
@thelewddwarf28 Psychology still doesn't work that way unless Aina is incapable of feeling guilt. Especially since I think it's going to hit her sooner or later that maybe, just MAYBE, her disconnecting from her brother because OMGSHIRO is what helped him go over the edge in the first place (thus she could've prevented it). As for Shiro, the impression I got was that Aina was an attractive, available pair of tits and that's what swayed him. Which I can believe as a character flaw, but not love.
@Androidraptor To some respect I would have to agree, but your preassumption doesn't conclude every relationship. Most girls I've had relationships were money hungery bitches, but there were two girls I screwed over, I can certainly say would have been faithful till the end, if I hadn't abandoned them.
It's highly unlikely to find a girl like Aina in real life, and most girls would like to justify themselves otherwise, although in reality they are indeed bitches. But you know you've screwed..
@Androidraptor ...up and lost someone special or never had the opportunity to meet one, if you're living with one hell of a bitch.
Furthermore, I don't think Americans in general understand that family value and proper education has tremendous impact on female behavior. There aren't alot, but I know several properly raised "elitist" family girls, who would stay faithful to their husbands to the bitter end, even if that husband is wrong.
@Androidraptor "individualism" so hard, and the other half of the feminist activists are literally stupid, that traditional feminist values are completely being abandoned, you get this impression, all women are "money hungry" whores.
Psychologically, Aina doesn't have to look back at the events concerning her brother if she's happy with Shiro. Men tend to reminisce the past, especially past lovers, women on the other hand don't give shit about the past, if they are happy in the present.
I like to think Shiro and Aina weren't in love per se, just dumb young adults in particularly nasty situations who acted on impulse and lust. Of course they didn't see it like that, most people in that type of situation tend to be convinced it's OMGTRUWUB. Even thought they've spent what, 12 hours together? Of course after a honeymoon period reality will rear it's nasty head and Shiro and Aina's relationship will implode. That interpretation keeps me from breaking things.
If their relationship was in real life, yes your view would/could be (IMO) very true. But this is anime, so of course all those things you mentioned are excluded/non-existant. Fairy tales are always implicitly unrealistic; that's what makes them entertaining. An overly realistic fairy tale loses its entertainment value.
Their relationship (and this episode) are suppose to complete the "entertainment" experience on a sweet note; personally I'd just let it be so.
@hypergap Who told you that? Because it's not nice to lie. Cartoon Network specifically said when asked that they would NEVER show children in war (although not to be picky, but all of the protagonists in Wing are 15 and under :P). That's also the same reason as to why there was an episode of Mobile Suit Gundam that never aired.
With the exception of 0083, what Gundam show has NOT depicted children in war? Still, I understand your point. Heh, fat chance that the current puritan Cartoon Network will ever show Victory Gundam.
@Darkforce222 No the best ending is Zeta because the main character dies or 0083 Now Stardust Memory had a damn good ending. The gundam pilot is unable to save the day and unable to defeat the enemy mobile armor . Resulting in a colony crashing into earth killing thousands of innocent bystanders. Even though the gp-03 is a beast and can cause some serious damaged it was never desgined to stop a colony drop. Endings like this are just to keep the majority happy.
A part of me dies inside every time I watch this. I'm fine with the rest of Last Resort, but this bit=BRB projectile vomiting :|
In my fanfic-tard writing head, the "happy ending" doesn't last. Psychology doesn't work that way, and my stick-in-the-mud self will be writing it the way it does work, thank you very much.
@OptimusGinrai Oh yes. Shiro and Aina deserve nothing less than to have their little impulsive fling implode on itself as it would if they're the least bit realistic or complex. I myself am found of the idea of Aina eventually killing herself from all the crap, and then Shiro having to live with that for the rest of his life. A true Shakespearean end indeed.
