I liked Frakes because he was likeable. I loved that a woman finally got to captain a ship, with a unique mission:to get back home. DS9 was good too and I'm glad miles and worf were eventually together again. I liked Torres because hey she had a temper but was still Starfleet, sort of.. I really miss those shows, even Enterprize.

Frakes aged and Seasoned into the part of Riker. He should have Captained Voyager . Deanna Troi should have gone with him. Miles O'Brien should have transferred over from Deep Space Nine too, creating a vacancy there for Geordi LaForge and an occasional visit from James Doohan as Mr. Scott. Belanna Torres was a waste of a character.Janeway should have been created as a semi regular Captain that visits DS-9 a few times a year.

Riker would have fit in on Voyager as the Captain.

I can't believe how young Frakes was in 1987, I remember when these episodes were first run. In those days these new characters actually were the new faces we were getting used to.

Riker should have been promoted to Captain by Mid Season 5. Then frakes could have gone to Direct TNG and DS9 Full time with some guest spots
