  • Good video. The 20ms delay tip you gave at 5:00 is good and is usually referred to as double-tracking where one guitar would record on a mono track then the track would be added to a second mono track but with a delay of 50ms with the two mono tracks panned slightly off centre, one slightly to the left the other slightly to the right to make it less in yoru face. Some guitarists run live into two amp chains with a 50ms delay in one of the lines

  • Awesome video. I just bought the HD 500 and one reason is the tones you get (having watched a lot of your vids). Besides being and excellent musician, you're patches are great. This vid was a great place to start thanks.

  • @futuresman1000 - Thank you very much! I'm still really happy with the HD500 and I hope you love yours also.

  • thanks for vid... just got this thing. how do i add a second amp in the edit software. thanks much B

  • @finstersmyth1 - Move the first amp into the split chain right before the mixer so it goes up on one end of the branch. Then go to the lower end and add another amp.

  • Good clean sound of your guitar in the begining, what is the patch? i want it

  • guitar? it's beautiful___ sound-wise and looks! love the humbeucker on the bridge!

  • @iamcolinterry - Thanks, she's a keeper! It is funny how left over parts can make a sweet guitar.

  • @kleydj13 so what all "parts" are there?

  • @iamcolinterry - Its got a warmoth alder body, an Allparts maple/rosewood neck fralin vintage hot pickups, PRS McCarty bridge humbucker, Fender USA bridge and saddles, vintage fender style tuners, bone nut, cts pots with treble bleed master volume and tone.

  • great video! Keep making videos for new tips and tricks. As a new HD500 owner your videos are helping me streamline the learning process.

  • @timmymac13 - Thanks!

  • How are you running the pod into the computer?

  • @kdguitar61 - Through the USB output.

  • How many parallel signal chains can you have with the HD500? Is it just two or can you have more?

  • @ricomajestic - Two is the max. You definitely would run into serious DSP issues if you tried to add more. The hardware isn't powerful enough.

  • Oh BEAUTIFUL!!!! How i can't wait till my pay check comes in!!!

  • Hey, can someone tell me if, with the delays, i can set the repeats to a time signature?

So instead of running repeats at 400ms, I can have them as Dotted 8th notes that i can set to tempo via the tap tempo button. That's really the only thing i need to know about this board. I love all the amp models, but i do alot ot U2 style stuff so i need to be able to set my delay to Dotted 8th notes.

  • @IanHolmMusic - 100% yes - I do it every time. You have like 20 different times from whole notes to dotted 16ths. I generally use 1/4 or .8ths.

  • @IanHolmMusic hi just wanted 2 say that the edge actually uses line 6 so u would get very close 2 his sound..

  • Nice Jog Clay....thinking about loosing my fridge rack to the 500.

Thanks for the basics. Note between 15-25 mSec is essentially a pseudo stereo effect. Essentially it's really a frequency dependent chorus, It is best used W/O a chorus to keep articulation. Another tip I like for reverb is the ability to add a verb pre-delay so you get the pick attack without the muddiness verb can cause....I LOVE VERB, so I guess it;s more critical for me than some.

    Once again great job!

    Dave Holland

  • @AUDIODH - Good stuff on that delay, I've never had it explained fully to me before. Also I will be experimenting more with that pre-delay on the reverbs. Sometimes I have difficulty dialing in just the right amount of reverb. It can be a little overbearing or not at all. Thanks though, I think you'd be quite pleased with the HD500. Its shocking how good of tones you can get for so cheap. Its a home studio for $500.

  • Dude, 1st thing when your making a patch add a noise gate.

    It's the main thing. :)

  • @satchizgod - Definitely if you're using a lot of gain and the buzz is pretty bad. If you can manage it, I like to go without. Sometimes noise gates mess with your attack or sustain a little bit. And there can be weird EQ changes if they aren't transparent.

  • @kleydj13 True, but why take a risk if playing live.

  • If you're playing live, though, the room has it's own reverb, and it might make you really "mushed up" in the mix with the band. Also using those two verbs eats an AMAZING amount of bandwidth. Forget about dual amps and delays. For most of my patches, I wouldn't be able to do the other FX I want. To me, the non-verb sound sounds better, too.

Also... the short delay trick works better if the mix is at 50%, at 100% it's just delaying the tone.

I agree that the Z amp is amazing, tho.

  • Is it just me, or is the HD500 Edit screen totally unreadable on this video? :(

  • digital delay with this settings will give MUCH more space if you set it to the one(left or right) of two chains in STEREO mode

  • Very great and informative video post there Kley...

I am so looking forward to getting mine POD HD500 the day after tomorrow... Can't hardly wait any longer... I've been watching YouTube for several days now ... and I think I've seen all POD HD500 vidz that is out there (at least not far from it)... I have a Fender Stratocaster and a J&D Les Paul that I'm going to use with it, and I'll post vidz of it as soon as I'm the proud owner :) -Tnx again!
