also, people can like different things. I hate some things that are concidered very good. Like star trek, I find myself bored to tears when watching it. My sister liked twilight although she's not a big fan of it. And she is really quite smart. I hate the thing, how people can like it I don't know. It's nothing compared to a lot of good books written this century. But they just don't have the fan base, and I think that is sad. when trash becomes famous instead.

i mean the twilight books are good purely from a teenage entertainment point of view but really Bella doesn't match up to Buffy or any other heroine and Edward is just plain boring

@bunnierabbits I disagree. I loved Anne Rice and I was an Anne Rice fan before I was a Whedon fan, but if you watch Buffy or Angel as a whole, you'll see that Buffy and Angel (the shows) are actually much more complex and multilayered than Anne Rice's stories. Plus they're a lot funnier, too :P

Ask the millions of Sociologists, Psychologists, literature experts, etc who are fans of the shows because of their complexities. Also take note of the several college courses based on these two shows that you can find all over the world. Buffy and Angel are the high class literature of TV shows. It puts Anne Rice's stuff to shame.

@bunnierabbits Actually if you listen to commentary (or read guides to the series, listen to interviews with the writers, etc) all of the metaphors people speculate are intentional. And I do rely on my own opinions. I was just giving you other sources because you don't know me. I could go on and on for days about my own personal thoughts and observations, but who has time for that? I sure as hell don't. I don't need a professional to tell me anything, but it's nice to have them back me up.

@gratiano7 she goes into a sort of coma after her and connor do the deed and she brings forth that creepy black lady that every body worships for a while. Willow also shows up to help out Angel and that's when she brings Faith back to Sunnydale with her to help fight The First. Them arguing was hilarious! This one episode Angel is trying to talk to the whole gang and Spike is ignoring him and playing a gameboy with his feet up on the furniture--it's HILARIOUS!!

wow, that's a whole lot of answers to squeeze into a tiny box... buffy jumped into a portal to her death to stop a dimension of hell from engulfing earth (that's the short version). yes, her rotted corpse was resurrected months later, by a witch using dark magic. she was 'chosen' by some unknown mystical force because that's how all slayers become slayers. it's just one female in each generation. she fights the demons on earth until one finally kills her, then the next one is 'called' to fight.
At the end of season 5 she gave up her life so that Dawn wouldn't have to die. At the beginning of season 6 Willow uses dark magic to bring her back from the dead. Unlike when she was dead for a few minutes at the end of season 1 this death didn't cause a new slayer to be born. Although never explained most people think it's because there was already a second slayer there to take her place.
yes. when Buffy died for the 1st time next slayer was Kendra and when she died there was Faith. And in the last [very last :(] episode every girl who might be a slayer will be a slayer thanks to Buffy's plan and Willow's magic. I miss Buffy.

First of all let me say that I love Buffy and I love Twilight but just because they share a couple similiarities doesn't mean one stole from the other lol.
Meyer never had an interest in vampires, she even says so in several interviews, so I highly doubt she even watched Buffy. And the whole human/vampire must resist temptation thing has been around long before Buffy. So if you want to be picky, you could say that the creators and writers of Buffy stole ideas from other stuff too lol.
OK, give me one relationship that is before Buffy but similar to B/A (and B/E). It's not a dare, I'm just curious cause it just screamed B/A to me when I read the books (for example why Edward left Bella-copy much). But to be honest books were OK (I didn't like movie but that's another story).My biggest beef is Bella's role in books -she's like a vampire groupie with Edward. Her entire purpose in books is to be in love with him. I wanted to yell- Come on Bella, grow a backbone!. That's all :-)
Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter. LKH started the genre. Interestingly enough, about 2000 miles separating them, Joss and Laurell wrote their female vampire killers in basically the exact same year. But Anita was finished and polished first, came out when I was in Jr. High. Buffy (post-movie messup) came out when I was in high school.
That is interesting. I have downloaded all books with Anita Blake but I still haven't had to time to read them. Did you read them? Are they better that twilight and how good are they in relation to Buffy?
But you still didn't answer my original question - is there in Anitas books something similar (guilty vamp, breakup) to relationship of Buffy/Angel (or B/E). Because entire Twilight book series is based on that. It's basically romance novel with vampires, really:)
I started reading the AB:VH books 14 years ago. My best friend spent two years trying to get me to start them and finally just gave me the second book for a birthday present (thanks, best friend, for the SECOND book, lol, she knew it would drive me nuts). You can't compare them to twilight--Twilight was written for teenagers, Anita Blake was written for adults (continued in next reply)...
...(especially when you hit book 10 and it becomes pretty much all about sex--although there's sex in books 7 and 8, it's not the focus of the stories). It's not comparable to Buffy, either, as it's hard to compare books to a show. But, of the three, I'd say Buffy is the best. But comparing AB:VH to Twilight is like comparing the Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter (only less epic for the vampire books).
Twilight IS a romance series. AB becomes one, but no guilty vamps. That would be Anne Rice.
So I'm still not proven that Bella/Edward is not copied from Buffy/Angel since there is no guilt vamps in books with Anita as you say. BTW I got fed up with Ann Rice - she goes too much into philosophy and religion for my taste. My favorite of hers in now Violin with no vampires at all:-)

Thanks for the warning about AB books - I may not read 10th book at all. I wish someone warned me about S6 and 7 of BtVS. I would save time with watching just few good episodes and spared myself of the rest.
Well, I know it's not copied since it all started as something that the author saw in a dream. The whole guilty guy thing is a totally old concept. Making it a vampire isn't new either, like I said, Anne Rice did that before Joss ever did (Interview is from 1976).
Although, as we're taught in English class in high school, nothing is new, it's all been done before ;) The point is to just sit back and be entertained.
Personally, I like all the series I've discussed for different reasons.
Personally, I think Twilight's guilt-factor is almost like an AB role reversal & very similar to BtvS. Twilight and BtvS: the vampire feels guilty while the human (or slayer) wants to stay together, whereas AB: human doesn't want anything to do with them, but the vamp is persistent. Buffy is the best because it doesnt go with the stereotypical ending where the human and vamp end up together - she does fine all on her own - yay for empowerment!

I've read all the Anita Blake books (except for the last two, which I will be getting shortly)...havent backread very far so sorry if I'm completely off track. I really liked them at first, but about five books in the plot starts to disappear a bit, and the characters turn superficial.Towards the end, they basically just turned into a whole bunch of sex scenes for me. There ae a lot of relationships that Anita gets into where she feels uber guilty, so yes, it can be compared to Buffy in that sen
se, I suppose. Buffy is a lot more fun, though both Anita and Buffy kickass - though Anita does kind of lose her standards :| - The concept of vampires is a lot different as well. The view of vampires in the Twilight series is a lot more like the Anita Blake series in that aspect. ..It's kind of sad that pretty much the only good vampire books i can find are in the romance section...

51srcenturygirl: Tbh, I don't think there really is a set book in which she gets into those kinds of relationships, more like her morals eventually disappear overtime. For example, at first she absolutely abhores all vampires, but then later on she starts getting into relationships (for lack of a better term) with them, and resents richard for being disgusted with her. The character completely changes from the personality which I actually liked the series for in the first place.
Except that Laurell toured with Anita for years before she got the first book published. She was rejected repeatedly because it didn't fit a genre. She created the literary genre (and then, many say, ruined it). Joss had his creation totally ruined with that movie and had to try again with the (awesome and successful) series.
the thing that bugs me is not that she stole the story line cause maybe she didn't, but her down playing Buffy's importance in the sucess of her books. Buffy bring vampires to the mainstream media the way it has has paved the way for her crapy morman centered books to be popular you'd think she'd toss some credit to Wedon for paving the way.
Much like he has done for all the other movies, series & sci-fi books that helped him & influenced him.
I'm sure she would agree with you. She's said herself that she's no writer, nor did she ever want to be. Twilight was based on a dream that she had that intrigued her so she decided to write more about it. It was never meant to be published but her sister told her she should.

Anne Rice started the whole vampire literature being infused into pop culture, Joss made it better and Laurell K. Hamilton tried to kill it and Stephanie Meyer nearly succeeded
i mean the twilight books are good purely from a teenage entertainment point of view but really Bella doesn't match up to Buffy or any other heroine and Edward is just plain boring

@renilicious And by the time the 18th century came they sought to disprove the existence of vampires but stories and literature existed looooong before then superstition began to dwindle at the start of the Industrial Revolution but was resurrected even before Bram Stoker's Dracula with poems of vampires by Keats, Baudelaire, Colderidge, etc.

Ask the millions of Sociologists, Psychologists, literature experts, etc who are fans of the shows because of their complexities. Also take note of the several college courses based on these two shows that you can find all over the world. Buffy and Angel are the high class literature of TV shows. And I do rely on my own opinions. I was just giving you other sources because you don't know me. Willow also shows up to help out Angel and that's when she brings Faith back to Sunnydale with her to help fight The First. Them arguing was hilarious! This one episode Angel is trying to talk to the whole gang and Spike is ignoring him and playing a gameboy with his feet up on the furniture--it's HILARIOUS!!

At the end of season 5 she gave up her life so that Dawn wouldn't have to die. At the beginning of season 6 Willow uses dark magic to bring her back from the dead. Unlike when she was dead for a few minutes at the end of season 1 this death didn't cause a new slayer to be born. Although never explained most people think it's because there was already a second slayer there to take her place.

Exactly. When Edward left Bella, she spent months on end whining, moping and attempting suicide because she couldn't get over it. When Angel left Buffy, she was miserable, but strove to move on, and within days she was off killing prom-crashing helldogs and the Mayor-Snake.
Actually, her relationship with Spike is destructive and negative in a similar way to Bella and Edward's, but then again, Bella never got her ass torn out of heaven. Buffy has an excuse there.

First of all let me say that I love Buffy and I love Twilight but just because they share a couple similiarities doesn't mean one stole from the other lol.
Meyer never had an interest in vampires, she even says so in several interviews, so I highly doubt she even watched Buffy. And the whole human/vampire must resist temptation thing has been around long before Buffy. So if you want to be picky, you could say that the creators and writers of Buffy stole ideas from other stuff too lol.

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter. LKH started the genre. Interestingly enough, about 2000 miles separating them, Joss and Laurell wrote their female vampire killers in basically the exact same year. But Anita was finished and polished first, came out when I was in Jr. High. Buffy (post-movie messup) came out when I was in high school.

My best friend spent two years trying to get me to start them and finally just gave me the second book for a birthday present (thanks, best friend, for the SECOND book, lol, she knew it would drive me nuts). It's not comparable to Buffy, either, as it's hard to compare books to a show. But, of the three, I'd say Buffy is the best. Twilight IS a romance series. AB becomes one, but no guilty vamps. That would be Anne Rice.

So I'm still not proven that Bella/Edward is not copied from Buffy/Angel since there is no guilt vamps in books with Anita as you say. BTW I got fed up with Ann Rice - she goes too much into philosophy and religion for my taste. My favorite of hers in now Violin with no vampires at all:-)
I don't care for romance novels and I was disappointed when I realized Twilight is one. She made vampires into nothing more than plot devices. Lame.

Thanks for the warning about AB books - I may not read 10th book at all. I wish someone warned me about S6 and 7 of BtVS. I would save time with watching just few good episodes and spared myself of the rest.

Well, I know it's not copied since it all started as something that the author saw in a dream. The whole guilty guy thing is a totally old concept. Making it a vampire isn't new either, like I said, Anne Rice did that before Joss ever did (Interview is from 1976).
Although, as we're taught in English class in high school, nothing is new, it's all been done before ;) The point is to just sit back and be entertained.
Personally, I like all the series I've discussed for different reasons.

Personally, I think Twilight's guilt-factor is almost like an AB role reversal & very similar to BtvS. Twilight and BtvS: the vampire feels guilty while the human (or slayer) wants to stay together, whereas AB: human doesn't want anything to do with them, but the vamp is persistent. Buffy is the best because it doesnt go with the stereotypical ending where the human and vamp end up together - she does fine all on her own - yay for empowerment!

I've seen all the seasons, but I'm still looking for the full collection of books - read a lot of books from the Angel series though! :) Which do you like better, Buffy or Angel? Really hard for me to decide...

I've read all the Anita Blake books (except for the last two, which I will be getting shortly)...havent backread very far so sorry if I'm completely off track. I really liked them at first, but about five books in the plot starts to disappear a bit, and the characters turn superficial.Towards the end, they basically just turned into a whole bunch of sex scenes for me. There ae a lot of relationships that Anita gets into where she feels uber guilty, so yes, it can be compared to Buffy in that sen

se, I suppose. Buffy is a lot more fun, though both Anita and Buffy kickass - though Anita does kind of lose her standards :| - The concept of vampires is a lot different as well. The view of vampires in the Twilight series is a lot more like the Anita Blake series in that aspect. ..It's kind of sad that pretty much the only good vampire books i can find are in the romance section...

To be honest Twilight was easy to read (downloaded and read all books)but now that I think about it it seems like fanfiction to me and not the best kind at that. I guess I'm spoiled by cool,non-romantic related plots in BtVS and BtVS books and fanfiction and Kim Harrisons books :)

51srcenturygirl: Tbh, I don't think there really is a set book in which she gets into those kinds of relationships, more like her morals eventually disappear overtime. For example, at first she absolutely abhores all vampires, but then later on she starts getting into relationships (for lack of a better term) with them, and resents richard for being disgusted with her. The character completely changes from the personality which I actually liked the series for in the first place.

Except that Laurell toured with Anita for years before she got the first book published. She was rejected repeatedly because it didn't fit a genre. She created the literary genre (and then, many say, ruined it). Joss had his creation totally ruined with that movie and had to try again with the (awesome and successful) series.

the thing that bugs me is not that she stole the story line cause maybe she didn't, but her down playing Buffy's importance in the sucess of her books. Buffy bring vampires to the mainstream media the way it has has paved the way for her crapy morman centered books to be popular you'd think she'd toss some credit to Wedon for paving the way.
Much like he has done for all the other movies, series & sci-fi books that helped him & influenced him.

I'm sure she would agree with you. She's said herself that she's no writer, nor did she ever want to be. Twilight was based on a dream that she had that intrigued her so she decided to write more about it. It was never meant to be published but her sister told her she should.
