  • Some of the greatest, most classic music ever,no question

  • @juan13579run

No, it's Live at the Isle of Wight 1970.

  • the band is just perfect:

pete townshend:a crazy and a fucking good guitarrist.

    roger daltrey:a epic vocals.

    jhon entlelwistle:a bass of hell.

    keith moon: moon the loon

  • what is this concerte...woodstock?

  • @juan13579run Isle of wight

  • pete is great anyone who says otherwise doesn't have an ear for unique guitar styles just the plain crap everyone plays.

  • You can have your boring ass guitarists. I will take the enigmatic, the energetic, the frenetic, the musical genius known as Pete Townshend every day of every year for my entire life! Have fun with the rest. I don't want 'em. Only Angus Young comes close. Ok...continue your bickering now. :-)

  • The first punk rock band before punk rock was popular?

  • Interesting how the English take a music form invented in America and improve upon it ...

  • this song makes me wanna smoke weed.

  • I'm suprised they didn't all just explode off the stage.

  • THANX FOR THIS.

  • amazing????

  • amazing???? bull shit

  • @Fedortolstoi For its era? Absolutely amazing. People are all over Hendrix's balls, but his live solo's were equally sloppy. They both did amazing things that pushed popular music to new heights.

  • There is still alot of amazing music being played out there people, its just the major labels are not promoting it. You gotta find it cause it aint gonna find you over the radio anymore.

  • Not my daughter.

  • BTW, I must apologize for my comment. I only like spreading love... positive energy. Making people smile. I just wish people would stop being SO negative for no reason. I can't figure out why someone would do that anyway... to feel better about themselves maybe? You could use going to a festival such as the "Isle of wight" or "woodstock" to see the love. A modern day version, like burning man or shambhala. Love yourself, love the world, spread positivity. Love is the answer! <3 Townshend rules!

  • Pete Townsend should never be allowed to solo, NEVER! This video proves that. Townsend always sucked at soloing i don't know why he even keeps trying. You want a Rock solo? Listen to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd.

  • @espdemon do you know anything? I'm sorry, that's negative of me to say. I'm a peace loving hippy, but I'm a guitar player as well, and a damn good one (don't judge by my vids, they're multiple years old, I'm about 6000 times better now....) Anyway, don't be so quick to judge people. Especially if they are AMAZING, more skilled than you'll ever be, and you don't have any idea what you're talking about. Seems you are an utter emanation of negative energy. May you find love in your heart some day.

  • You could make the same criticisms of Keith Moon's playing. He was sloppy and had terrible technique. But I still love his drumming as I love Pete's guitar playing. I will agree that he is a better rhythm guitarist, and he did seem to start embracing that fact more later on.

  • I don't care that Pete was all that great of a lead player, he still kick ass all around. Weather its was rythem, solo, jumping around, smashing the guitar out of anger, or as a songwriter. I say that manly because he puts a ton of emotion, ecpesscially anger into everything he did

  • I want a white jumpsuit like Pete's

  • John's outfit is awesome

  • Nobody plays guitar like Pete, he has a totally unique sound! The discussion about Pete being a great lead guitarist or not is pointless, he's just a GREAT guitar player!

  • agreed hes to underrated

  • pete may not be the best lead guitarist or the best guitarist...hes deff on the top 5 list... but he is the coolest ever no one else can windmill like him, smash like him, or play like him he is the most iconic guitarist in the history of rock and roll and he is a great writter...love ya pete

  • People these days seem to think that playing a "lead" is shredding. Pete's expressions are not like that. Granted in this clip he fucks up a bit on some of the more delicate high noted fast parts, but they guy (like Page) improvised and poured out his soul through his guitar and THAT makes him worth listening to. Fast playing an arpeggios are just not his thing and frankly I am glad.

  • Good God, could you imagine him even TRYING that?!?!

He was good for reasons other than him TRYING to play lead guitar. HE WAS COOL. A great writer, great rock icon, but not even close to being an articulated, technically inclined lead guy.

His solos are sometimes effective, but they're not, by any means, "good".

His rhythm playing is damn good, but NOT his lead playing.

  • I agree with the asmorgan88 that Pete Townshend is a terrible lead guitarist.

I love his chords, riffs, & tricks he does, that's what makes him great - but his lead playing is really lacking.

  • @m0dsar3us

Have you ever listened to the Who's 'Live at Leeds' live album?? Pete plays incredibly on that album!

  • @scartissue94

    ...

I have no idea why everyone thinks the guitar on that album is anything noteworthy.

He plays some great rhythm on that album, but his soloing is really bad.

He's not a good guitarist. He's a good rhythm guitarist - but in order to be a good guitarist, you have to be well rounded...and he's not, by any means.

  • @m0dsar3us Another person who has an agenda that if it isn't met, the music isn't any good. GOD I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU! LET GO AND HAVE SOME FUN!

  • LOOOVE THAT SG!!

  • This is the most boring guitar solo I've ever heard.

  • Wow, he's really going for it here. Was always a fav of mine and he's brilliant on an accoustic.

  • Easily one of the most musically tight bands of all time...Each musician is near the tops at their instruments in playing ability...Daltry included...These guys are absolutely amazing....

  • Except Townshend, who is perhaps the worst lead guitarist of all time...

  • Anybody Jimi Hendrix cites as an influence on his style is good in my book...I don't know sir what you are talking about....He's not in the top ten, but he's certainly very good....I would never call him "the worst lead guitarist of all time".....And don't give me shit about not playing guitar because I play the guitar and in my book Peter is a very competent guitar player...

  • He's perhaps the best RHYTHM guitarist of all time - but when that motherfucker tries to solo...it's terrible.

You can't say that listening to him play lead sounds good - if you think it does, you have poor pitch recognition. He's terrible playing lead.

His riffing is great (which is NOT lead guitar work ; riffing is RHYTHM), but when he tries to play an articulate piece, it sounds like garbage.

  • Well, since he's the only guitarist in the band I wouldn't really call him lead anyways...He does Rythmn, but when required to he does play a form of "lead"...And I never really called him the "BEST" anything...But he is a damn fine musician...And yeah I will agree he is definitely not the best lead guitarist of all time...I know that for damn sure haha...But I never claimed he was that either...And of course I know riffing is not lead...I'm not an idiot....

  • well, a bass guitar is also a guitar and so, technically, entwistle is the other guitarist and townshend is not really imperfect, i've seen him shred and go fucking crazy

  • Like I've been saying - Townshend is a good rhythm guitarist. He riffs very well - but he can't solo...

Go to 3:12 and watch for about 30 seconds - it's absolute garbage.

  • dude u've watched just one video, type in the who my wife detroit 2000 and watch pete kick the shit out of that fucking stratocaster, u don't even know what guitar playin' is and actually, ur full of garbage!!!!!! just like pavement27 said, ur full of shit, yea, absolutely true, and still, u have the guts to challenge a rock legend like townshend even though u don't even know how to play the guitar, so, go fuck urself bitch!!!!!!

  • hey man that morgan guys DUMB-ASS!

really.. he has no clue! what hes talking about.

    every Townshend solo sounds different!

why dont these IGNORANT FOOLS go listen to a band like the misfits, who suck shit, and that glen danzig, wat a fuckin freak he is!,

disrespecting elvis by singin in a punk band, glen danzig is biggest load of garbage i've eva herd in my entire life lol!!!!

  • i know man, if u say that townshend can't solo, u should def listen to the "live at leeds" album which this morgan dumbass clearly has not!!!!!!

  • @rajbeast I watched that video! in detroit 2000 and he was better on that night but hes not one of the better lead guitarist but he is one of the better composers though!

  • and just stick to miley cyrus and the jonas bros, maybe u like their guitar playing more, rock is not for u!!!!!!

  • Something tells me that I'm older than you & have been listening to The Who for as long as you've been alive...

  • type in the who my wife detroit 2000 on youtube and check out the 1st video that comes up and then talk!!!!!!

  • Yeah - I did...and THIS solo is better...he gets worse with age. Clearly.

  • clearly, u don't play the guitar, in that my wife detroit video, he clearly kicks the shit out of the fucking stratocaster soloing greatly and basically shredding and ripping it up like crazy, basically, anyone who says pete townshend can't solo, definitely does not play the guitar!!!!!!

  • DAMN THAT TREMOLO MM MM

  • dude, it seems like more people are agreeing with me than u, so, really u know nothing about rock n roll, go listen to the fucking jonas homos bitch!!!!!! maybe u'll like their guitar playing better!!!!!! and if u say that townshend can solo, listen to the album "live at leeds" which i don't think u have because i know a lot more about the who and rock n roll than u fag!!!!!!

  • He can solo? Just listen to THIS!

  • dude, u don't understand the simple fact, do u?????? ur a fucking idiot!!!!!! no one agrees with u here, they all agree with me!!!!!!

  • HEY. rajbeast lets double-team up and tear this fuckn ignorant moron apart,

    wat do u say man?!?

  • i'm all for it bro, this guy even threatens me that he's gonna come to my house and kick my ass haha what a fucking idiot!!!!!!

  • Yeah - I'll let you two fuck my ass until I'm humbled...

NO...better yet, I'm gonna turn YOU into a FAGGOT, COCKSUCKER!

I'LL FUCK YOU UNTIL YOU LOVE ME.

  • Hey...think what you will...I mean, you tried telling me that Townshend INVENTED the POWER CHORD...

  • have u ever listened to the album live at leeds? and i mean, not one or two songs, the whole fucking album!!!!!!

  • It's the best live album of all time, in my opinion...

BUT - I do NOT think it is the greatest guitar work of all time...maybe of Townshend's career!

I'll stand by the idea that Townshend is NOT one of the best GUITARISTS. He's not even a guitarist per say!

Hendrix, Page, Beck (whom I don't really like), Cropper, Blackmore (I don't care for him either)...THOSE GUYS, are GUITARISTS.

Pete himself has said that he was never confident in his playing because of how good his contemporaries were.

  • i did not say that live at leeds is the greatest guitar work of all time, please don't try to change what i actually said, i just said that after listening to the solos townshend pulls off in live at leeds, u can't really say that pete can't solo!!!!!!

  • I'm still steadfast on my opinion that Townshend is a terrible lead guitarist...at least as far as technique, and articulation are concerned.

You can't compare him to Page, Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Blackmoore...you just can't.

He was good in THE WHO...but he still wasn't even "one of the greats"...perhaps for his songwriting, or alternative style playing...but as far as playing LEAD goes...he SUCKS.

You know it - you can't compare him to the actual greats...you look like a jerk.

  • again, stop changing what i actually said, i didn't say that he was the greatest, i just said that after listening to his solos in live at leeds, u can't say he sucks, can u play those solos exactly the way he played them in live at leeds? i think not!!!!!!

  • Yeah - I think those solos suck...

I don't listen to The Who for their guitar work...are you kidding me?!?!?!

  • i would like to see u play those exact solos from live at leeds!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • u know what? i would actually like to see u beat pete townshend in a guitar battle!!!!!!

  • HAHAHHAHHAHAHA go listen to some FUCKING GARBAGE LIKE THE MISFITS!

    OR SOMETHING!

  • and u are a fuckn moron, and if u think u r a bigger ass-hole then me pal u have another thing coming,

    townshend solo's better anybody,

the most boringest solo's i hear are yngwie malmsteen.

    u have no clue.

he inspired hendrix, beck, van halen, and slash u retard!

.. and dont get me started..

  • Saying Townshend solos better than ANYONE is downright ignorant...

I think even YOU know that's not true.

    Great - he inspired people...wonderful.

That doesn't mean he's better than who he inspired!!!

The Ramones inspired U2...but you won't hear me going around saying that Johnny Ramone is a better guitarist than The Edge...

  • yea srry raj bt asmorgans right... townshend wasnt known for solos... hes way bttr at riffs... in my opinion anyway... bt like.. he's an amazing musician.. writing operas, musicals, riffs are amazing, windmill, head butting guitars.. hes in a top 10 guitarist list nt cause of his notes bt how he plays them...

  • Very well put - Townshend is NOT a lead guitarist.

He was a hell of a rhythm guitarist, his riffing is great...but to say he is "one of the greatest lead guitarists" is just downright ludicrous...

  • yea bt he is in the deffinently up in the list of "Ten top guitarist"... he was an amazing guitarist bt nt famous for his leading part bt mostly for his songwriting, tricks, and riffs

  • I'd put him in the top 50...maybe.

There are a LOT of guitarists out there, and I can easily name 50 that are better at the instrument than him...

AS FAR AS TASTE GOES...HE'S IN MY TOP 5.

  • @asmorgan88 Do you know the difference 'tween past and present tense? Pete "is" not "was"! I could give a shit what you boner sniffers think of his playing. When you turds or anyone else can write songs of historic importance such as "Baba O'Riley" or "Won't Get Fooled Again" or "5:15" or "My Generation" let me know and we'll call a press conference. I apologize for my langauage but when you slam Pete I must get angry! EMOTION is what Pete and THE WHO are about! ARE! NOT WERE! Thank you.

  • @kurtizzyflush

Have you never in your life watched a pro athlete on TV & said to yourself : "Wow, he sucks"???

    You've gotta be shitting me.

    Wonderful - Pete's a great songwriter, & composer.

    That doesn't make him a good guitarist...and he's not.

If you listen to the present day Who & think that they still "are", then you my friend, are an asshole. THE WHO FUCKING SUCK NOW...WORSE THAN THE STONES.

  • @asmorgan88 yeh i agree! hes an outstanding composer and rhythm guitarist! but people tend to overrate him as a lead guitarist! hes the weakest of the musicians in the who!

  • @sjdss I don't think so. You're stupid, that's all. He was the most inventive guitar player of his era, with Jimi Hendrix of course. I said inventive, he wasn't a guitar-hero. And don't forget he composed the greatest part of The Who's song, you can't say that's nothing.

  • @asmorgan88 Wow you really know how to make a point for such a stupid fucking asshole that wasn't around to hear the Who with the original line-up. What are you seven? Being a good guitarist isn't measured by playing x amount of notes in x amount of time. If you weren't so butt fucking ignorant you'd know that. Does it make it easier to understand now that I've spoken to you in a way an idiot like yourself is usually spoken to at the mental institution where you reside?

  • @LongLiveWho yes, he is a great musician. As far as alead player goes, he leads the band, doesn´t he? In any case, he is not a "chops" player. He can´t play harmonic minor and then on to Mixylodian mode and so on. Let Blackmore and Co. do that. I like technical playing as well, but I love this stuff.

  • type in the who my wife live detroit 2000 on youtube and check out the 1st video that comes up if u don't believe me, after watching that u possibly cannot say that townshend is imperfect at soloing if u play the guitar

  • I never said he was bad....I love Pete Towhnsend...And I think to be honest this Morgan guy is full of shit...

  • i totally agree

  • i know morgans a dumb ass!

    LOL.

  • But I will certainly admit that he is very very sloppy....But I rather like that sloppy sound...It has nothing to do with pitch....I can certainly tell he's not amazing....But the guy goes for it...And yes it comes off sloppy, but there is something in that imperfection that makes it all the more exciting to hear....It's like all of this auto tuned shit that bands are using now...It makes their music sound like shit....Music is so much better in my opinion when it's drenched in imperfection....

  • fuck you shit-eater

  • fuck u, u probably only like the jonas bros and miley cyrus bitch, learn to appreciate some good guitar playin' or first play the guitar like townshend and then talk shit about him, got it bitch?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

You all sound like jerks saying that this guy is a good guitarist, especially with the solo I am hearing playing in the background...

  • Petes a truely unique guitarist he created a style that no-one else could play, or pull off, townshend is the most underrated guitar player of all time check him out on live at leeds for example!!!!!!!!!

  • Brillant!

  • Well shot and very unique Who footage.

  • if you come to a who video and start talking shit about the band, expect negative comments

  • the who are the greatest rock band in history

    every member is a king

  • Agreed, every member of that band is a master of his instrument, yet they never overplay anything, they just use their talent good.

The Seeker among others is just an example of a perfect song IMO. John is just killin' it on The Seeker, best bass line I've ever heard I think.

So simple buuuuut good music doesn't have to be complicated.

  • yeah dude

hit the auld nail on the head there xD

  • Get on with it!!!

  • Ahha, Jimmy Page, the most banal choice guitarist for the idiot who clearly knows nothing about rock. Page was never, NEVER renowned for his improv skills when it came to solos so I don't understand why you would even bring hs name it to this. Pete is a fucking legend and he didn't even have to rip off any musician (unlike your God Page) to reach the level he's at today. Truth hurts.

  • you right about pete, he rules haha

but page is an amasing guitarist and hes written shit loads of deadly riffs haha

  • Pete is pretty good as far as technical skill goes, but i am telling you- he was Mozart in a rockstars body.

  • he was like the first to use power chords too

  • And then these bastards have the audasity to say he wasn't a good lead guitarist.

  • For reals i think pete townshend is one of the most underratexd guitarist, hes fucking amazing

  • Best songwriter in rock

  • most fucking definately

  • hope this is woodstock

  • its isle of wight...like it says in the description lol

  • that's a new one.

  • ur a lesbian, in ur face.

  • You don't do very well in the music world do you? WITHOUT GUITARS, there wouldn't be rock n roll. Without rock n roll, there would be NO MUSIC.

  • your gay!!!

  • listen to any of your "gangster" rap songs and let me know just how many have some kind of guitar part in it. cause its almost all of them

  • i love how at 1:08 he just hits his guitar and tech problems magically disappear

  • I never knew he could do a solo like this....

I thought of his as a Rhythm guitarist

All his solos in the Album version suck so bad!

I think he is a better soloist live.

  • Townshend is better on the stage than in Albums.

Listen to "Live at Leeds" album,

or watch any "The Who" concert from 69' to 71'

  • they don't suck on the albums, but they're better live, he was way better at picking than fretting

  • This is GOLD!

  • wish i could make my drumkit like keiths so flat sounding but sum how nice lol. genious.

  • Great video! - very clear and clean. Nice shots of Keith. Pete is a writing genius. Oh yeah, and he plays pretty well also - definitely one of the best.

  • jesus, so fucking brilliant...

  • Check what Keith does at 0:05. How is that possible?

  • Wow!, Brilliant detail.

    RIP Keith

  • I read somewhere that Keith set up his kit sometimes to bounce a stick from his tom tom (?) and another drum and it would go straight at the audience. Kind of a ricochet thing. I love these old clips that I have never seen and really did not know existed.

  • AMAZING! I wish i was alive back then....

  • Man i wish there was a video of leeds. Also, i could not agree more with you.

  • some of it's on amazing journey the dvd

  • Nice vid!
