Good video but I would have lacquered the whole of the green area and just faded it out on the narrow strip under the headlight, this would reduce the risk of any edge showing up on your faded in area either now or in the future and would not have taken much longer to scotch out . Just my 2 cents.
Great video! But 2 things I would fix... First I would not rub down the blend area, the finish should be smooth enough just to be able to run your buff over it with light cutters and not a sheep skin.
Second rubbing down your blend area is more risky, you could and most likely would virtuality your blend agent or peel back clear = repaint
I find it difficult to avoid orange peel with clear coat, even when spraying 4 or 5 inches from the surface I find I either get orange peel or runs - how can I avoid this?
@Zlyzer You are spraying too close. Spray distance should be 6-10 inches unless you are just that good. If it still shows orange peel, Either bring the fluid down some, or speed up on your passes....too slow of a pass will create orange peel as well as too much fluid.
@terrylandreaux Hey man. When I say orange peel, I mean the textured stuff you typically get when you're not spraying heavy enough.. I managed to finish my project by spraying as heavy as possibly without getting runs. That produced the best final result for me. It's trial and error really, this is more of an art than a science I think. Cheers anyway dude.
@Zlyzer Oh ok...good deal. Just for future reference that texture is called "dry spray". It there it appears when there isn't enough fluid being sprayed as you figured out, or your travel speed is too fast....but good job bro.
the blender...is that thinned down clear coat? if it is,how much r u thinning it down to melt/burn the new/old clear together thank u 4 your tyme PEEEACE
I've got one for ya. I have a straight black Camaro, and somebody broke in to it and left the fiberglass above the lock crushed-in. I fixed the crushed in part with some body filler, then roughly sanded it, then used about 1500 grit to smooth it out. I painted/clear coated it with intentions of doing another clear coat the next day. While I had the materials in my garage, someone came up and sprayed clear coat allllll over my door/window. It looks runny, splotchy, and terrible. What should I do?
@SlightlyCracked15 hey there what you can do if i understand ya question right is to wet sand and buff your door.. as far as the window that should come off with a razorblade... hope this helps..
hey ur vids rule man u do A++++ work and great descriptions and explanations and we all appreciate it and as a fellow body and paint guy i personally dont like blending clear but thats just me..ive had a few bad experiences and ive noticed some cars where u can tell they have blended it.. its crazy cuz before i got into this line of work i wouldnt have noticed anything but now i pick apart everything... thanks for the great vids keep it up..
thanks buddy, I bake pretty well all of my jobs in the booth at 160 for 20 minutes or so. The odd time I use the infrared lamp on smaller jobs but don't usually make mention of it.
@cqljohn1 , also I saw you using some spray can blender in another video, what brand was that? and was it off the shelf blender or did you have it put in a can?
@jeetkunedoground i would use a good ppg blend solvent bacause whatever this guy used didnt work just look at him polishing it off after his paint is dry.
Its nothing too fancy, I go threw camera's quickly..lol... just a fujifilm finepix av, dont know much about camera's but i should really go get something higher end.
Thanks for the buffer trails!
That repair isn't going to last. The blend line will show again eventually.

If you know how to use your blending solvent you should not have to sand the blend in area,,,just buff.
You could also improve on the way you apply your clear. Your gun strokes are very erratic and confusing........

Awesome vids!! what brand of coarse polish do you use for the blend?thanks much

Is blend reducer a special kind of reducer, or is it just the same reducer that you use to blend in your clear?
If it is a special type og reducer, do you know if House Of Kolor makes a blend reducer for their clear then? :-)
XesserX 5 months ago
@XesserX you can even use a supper slow reducer if you are careful. ppg

@Zlyzer after it dries wet-sand it with fine grit and either buff, or hand-polish it with product
