i think it is for me... so much 9gag, face book and random crap. effectively keeps me from accomplishing, from being ACTIVE, not PASSIVE in mental production.
I have to admit that I too turn on the television when I just want to escape from reality. There was a time I turned to reading books to escape from reality and to just relax. Thank you for this very informative video.
Does all this info on watching tv and its' effects also apply to watching the computer? say YouTube for example? or is that less harmful, because it is participatory , active and not as passive as sitting in front of " network" TV ? I feel a Peter Finch explosion coming on !
@jsilence418 Unfortunately this device took up a big chunk of my childhood, and while my parents should've nurturing my brain they were ignoring me and worshipping the box. Its done a much better job of raising me than they have. I would consider everything with a screen under the category, so lets just make sure that we control the screen and it doesn't control us. Say 1 hour maximum per day, but preferably less.
I see this with so many people and children most of all. When you try and talk to them, they don't notice you at first. You can have a really trashy advert and it will draw you in to watch it. The people behind TV aren't stupid at all.
Yes, it is a shame that the brain is being manipulated and confused with ignorance to most watching. Thank you for reminding us what television really does to our minds. We need to spend less time watching media and it's lies and on more important matters... Whatever that may be.
for those who have left tv behind...
is the internet your new tv?

Apparently it affected the author such that he can no longer distinguish between the noun "effects" and the verb "affects."

My brain was not effected by television. If anything, it was effected by the genes that initiate development in utero.
It is possible that my brain has been AFFECTED by television, however, I was not allowed to watch too much as a child.
If you going to post on the subject of dumbing-down, it might be best to not make errors of basic English in your title.
