Unfortunately, the voice acting just isn't the same even if they used the same actors reprising their roles. I liked the original better, but maybe it depends on which version you were introduced to originally.

The only reason they zoomed in on it was just to show how much superior the Gamecube's graphics were to the PS1's. If you look closely, his pants get wet too, so it's not just a puddle appearing underneath him like on the PS1 version.

Nope, Greg Eagles (credited as George Byrd in the original) is only 38 and still very much alive. In fact, he also did the voice of the DARPA Chief Donald Anderson (A.K.A. Sigint) in both the original and Twin Snakes. I don't know why they got someone else in for Gray Fox in this version.

No actually. They don't use "He" and "she". It's gramatically permissible to omit the words. "He" and "she" exist("kare" and "kanojo" repsectivly) But they are considered somewhat rude, and thus are rarely used.
