Back in the late 80s and early 90s out at Big Spring TX they had one of the worst speed traps going. I actually got pulled over for speeding 57 in a 55 mph zone at 2am. The law that the money must be spent for official DA purposes or law enforcement purposes is precisely the problem. Its a major conflict of interest to have the police seize money that they end up using themselves. Everybody would like to have job security and police know that their job security can be improved by taking money. Just like writing tickets. The story leaves out whats really happening. Federal laws says its illegal to transport more than $5500.00 in cash across state lines without filling out the IRS form and filing it with the IRS.
The police can seize the cash, hold it in evidence, and file a civil action to seize it, UNLESS you file a claim on it and prove its not money laundering.
If you dont like the law, change it. This is a federal law to prevent drug money from crossing state lines.

I can tell you right now that many of these criminal cases we hear about in the news are FILLED with holes.
And from personal experience with cops you should NEVER trust their word or what comes out of an affidavit.
I've heard serveral stories of cops planting evidences and lying that the accused "confessed" to the crime.
The only reason why cops try to interrogate and harass people is to get a bullshit confession out of them so they don't have to go to court.

Jonestown, in particular is very bad. It lies on a main road that runs through the county, route 1431. So they camp out, waiting.
What makes it worse, the road is very twisty, and undulates up and down, so it is very fun to ride on motorcycles (I have two, and no car)...so you can see how this is a problem.
However, I have since moved a few miles away, and don't have to pass those bastards ever again.
Avoid Travic county like the plague, or pay insane traffic fines for goinbg 5mph over.
