Looking back I would have never guessed in a million years that Grand Theft Auto 4 would have 10000000 times more realistic damage than GT5, the proclaimed "worlds most realistic driving SIM!"
@kerdop Sorry but that is such a pussy excuse. I don't know if you know this but crashing is a PART of racing just like dying is a PART of life. How can you call it a real SIM if it doesn't factor in crashes? A real SIM wouldn't have a Bugatti crashing into a wall at 140 with NO mechanical damage and and a slightly bent bumper. That's ridiculous! Right now, GT5 is the equivalent of playing bumper cars. And don't give me that "but i never crash I'm that good" That' s bullshit and you know it!
@PHOQUR I hate this sort of SHIT. I pay £40 for a game to entertain me with things like damage and the Top Gear Track and when I play it, I get none of this. It's all locked. Is that even legal? Surely that's bait and switch? I'm not a hard core racer and will probably never progress to the highest levels. I just want some fun. Where is it?
@marcel911 Technically they didn't lock the damage system, damage happens from the start it's just at a lower level, he wanted it to get worse as you became a better driver.
i will only by GT when they introduce realistic crash damage. for now ill play GRID and DIRT 2 ... nothing like scaring to crash in an intense race... in GT5 there is no repercussions for crashing
@itskeirnanhoe Me neither. I saw videos of great damage before I bought it but when playing GT5 even after several rolls I only see slight paint discolouration. A quick rub with T-Cut will fix it.
@jickopik Agree, the physics could be better. Inertia is really weird or missing, look at the car entering the curve. It's too bad because the graphics are good.
Not having body damage, or mechanical damage is what finally made me quit the whole GT series. Any kid can do 200mph into a wall, bounce off and get a faster lap time than someone who actually slowed down. Plus we all used AI cars as bumpers to corner fast.
My question is will this damage cost money to repair? If you don't repair is the damage still there the next race, or are races only begun with 100% repaired cars?
This might give me reason to buy a PS3 and this game. Thanks Polyphony!
Now with both appearance and mechanical damage, Polyphony can finally say that it is "The Real Driving Simulator." Before the damage, I just just remember taking advantage of AI cars and using them for getting around corners real fast. Guess that won't be happening much now.
Other than speculating, how would you know? Everything I've found online so far shows damage modelling like this. I hope you're right, that the released version is better.
@jookiyaya how in any way is it fake, thats the actual quality of the game in development, im part of the visual graphics team behind this game and belive me, it gets better, the damage in this video is only the begining.
@S1ay3R007 agree damage is almoust everything in a driving game, why do you think that split second failed and GRID still owns or DIRT or even colin McRae 2005 owns this, cause they have realism and damage.
Dirt 2 damage system is very good. Every little shaved in a wall, or rock, cause damage to the car, although the car don't damage completely, like, and axle bronken. In Dirt 2 if you hit to strong a wall in time trial, or free raco, the wheels come oof from the axles. And you need to use the flashback. It's boring.
Who cares about damage, what's the point of custimizing a car if they are going to look like shit by the end of the race? That why NFS series are so gay! It's anoying have a car bump into and have your car crash and lose perfomance.
@CrazyPig509 yeah, I mean in Flat Out when you hit a tree you fly through the windscreen, just like you would in real life. Apart of course just getting back in the car. Hitting anything at 30 mph headon in real life will result in a write off, so GT should be like this too. If I wanted to play a arcade game it'll be Ridge Racer, corning 90 degree bend at 400kph and bouncing off the walls.
@badbob12345678 yeah... calling itself a simulator and having some very questinable physics is wierd.. everything else is so top knotch.. why not damage?
Well they did master the driving aspect of a racing sim, so who knows, maybe now they can focus, and master the crash/damage physics for the 6th game.
@trusttruth1985 i hope so, because its really distracting form the simulation experience when you can make completely unrealistic actions because there is no consequence. Except in some rally-stages where you hit the wall to hard the race would stop.. otherwise you just supe up your car and grind along walls and crashing madly about..
@oggedask Well you can turn on the mechanical damage which makes crashing a consequence. Like hitting a wall with the left end of your car will make it hard to steer, and such. Still I do hope they improve on that part. Personally though I still think GT5 was the best racing game last year.
im pretty sure this is just the physics thats being shown off. There isnt any difference in this video and a video I saw a while ago demonstrating more physics. They haven't added any of the crumble effect yet. Thats what takes time. Just be patient. soon it will be better than everything everyone posts here >:)
lol, a lot of people spaming:"that game has better damage, that one too", lol fuck all other arcade boring games, no game has this graphics and this awsome simulation, only GT.
Eh. It's interactive with the doors and everything but it's not realistic. Forza is more realistic than this. I mean... He slammed head on into the wall multiple times and slammed into other cars. And he has like a dent and a loose bumper. No. His car would not be driveable.
@ohmygooooood Race Driver GRID's damage system sucks ass
when you hit a wall your car smashes up, yeah, but it takes a super dumb ass driver to wreck their car in GRID. A big crash barely affects your car, let alone a small one.
@ohmygooooood why would u want a dammge system on a simulator?? are you trying to kill yourself in real life and see how much dmg it will cost you? XD
@babyplaze haha yeah, i dont know why people just can't co-lab with others in the market that have proven themselves to make a better game everall, even NFS Pro Street had better damage than GT5 so far and it's been out fo a while now.
As awesome as this video is, and shows great advancements in the world of GT, I don't actually like it, for the simple reason that they are beating up a Subaru Impreza! That isn't nice! D:
@youcantubeittoo haha yeah but now these gay xbox fan boys can shut up about damage cuzz i think gt5 damage is better cuzz at least the hood can bend and fm3 the freaking paint just gets scraped off. thats lame
I can just imagine people taking advantage of the "Gliding along the walls technique" where you get your car going at 200mph and hugging the wall into a curve only to continue around the next corner unscathed, I really hope damage is sufficient enough so people don't start abusing that, but then again everything has it's pro's and cons. If damage is implemented accurately, then some guy behind me might ram my rear engine vehicle and fuck up my race, so it ends up a double edged sword anyways.
I can't wait for a game to come out wherein you can't smash into a car at a speed difference of 60MPH and lose only a bumper while taking invisible internal damage, then keep on rolling. Someday.
@OOZ662 I totally agree but I have heard it's actually the car manufacturers that are the problem not the game devs. I know you have to pay a shit load of money extra to allow the cars to roll. Something about not wanting people to see people die in their cars or something?? Silly I know.
With all the time and money Polyphony is pouring into this, i figured the crash physics would be at least up to 2002 standards. Only thing that is happening is the bumpers come loose and the doors open.
what they need is damage not only to the exterior but to the engine brakes wheels ect, getting flat tires from driving over bits of damaged cars would b great, or at least if u dont change ur tires in pitstops if they blow out
I think a lot of you are underestimating how much work it is going to take to create each car. Lets say each car has 10 destructible parts, with there being a whopping 900 cars in the game that's 9000 models right there. If they create 5 alternate damage models for each part that shoots it up to 45000 models, if each has around a 5000 (conservative estimate) polycount, that's about 225 million triangles. That's why there is gonna be a 3 disk release. :D
@SICKMurderface 5000 is deffinately a conservative poly count to say the least, with alot of the cars they have said they are going for 20, wait for it, million, poly's, i dnt get how but they are, if you see the konigsegeuxdbcdue well long sweedish name for a car, god knows how its spelt, well if you see the graphic demo, rendered in real time going around the car, tis be amazing
first of all the koeniggseg video you saw wasn't even gt5. it was a pc render made by propergraphics, not polyphony digital. The car had 192.000 polygons. GT5 Prologue cars had 250.000. GT5 cars have 500.000.
ScrewFearMe of corse ps3 is harder to develop for because it has 6 syneristic processing elements for games however these syneristic processing elements have no access to memory, the ps3 has 1 general purpose core while the 360 has 3 general purpose cores and in the future you will see the 360 do amazing things.
In the GT5 Prologue vid 'Beyond the Apex',Kazunori Yamauchi said that 'adding damage will sacrifice the beauty of the cars and he hates adding things that break our heart.'WTF?HE ALREADY BROKE MY HEART BECUZ THERE'S NO DAMAGE ON GT5P.
Don't get Prologue.Wait for GT5.Yeah,i know it's gonna be loooooonnngggg but,FACE IT!!!We can play GRID,NFS Shift for the time being until GT5 releases.
MrKyle080905 "the reason they took so long with gt5 is that they were on a new system" that is a poor excuse, since the 360s release turn10 has released fm2 and fm3 both of which have damage.
@andrewjones1977 the ps3 is harder to code for and stuff like that....and its Polyphony Digital......they are like Blizzard...it comes out when its done
lost the gaaaaaame gt5 isn't out untill around christmas and you're talking about gt6 you people are unbelievable fucking hell be happy with what's coming instead of wasting your life away thinking about the next game, gt6 probably wont be out for at least 5 years anyway if you judge the time taken by polyphony digital to get gt5 out.
@andrewjones1977 gt6 will come out in a mich shorter time, the reason they took so long with gt5 is that they where on a new system, so for gt6 pd said its gt5 with updates
GTA4 is the best about physical damages, even GRID is better than GT5 till now... i hope that GT5 will be a big surprise in terms of realism and damages
@badabumbadabing1 Yeah, But they dont do it very realisticly. If there is gonna be proper damage in GT5 itll be really realistic, But thats unlikley for now, So we will just be having this. GT6 will probably go in to it more.
I dont see any scratches, dings, etc. after the entire video. All i see are body parts hanging/falling off. Shouldnt the axles, engine, transmission, or anything have taken a shot at 1:30-1:36? The body parts hanging off look cool, but the hood opens at 1:31 and sort of corrects itself a moment later. That seems off..fix it polyphony!
Actually mate this isn't the prologue this is them testing the damage on the full game, they keep on improving it that's why it's taking long to be resleased, more to look forward to I guess lol on the g25 aswell!!!!! XBOX fails
The damage looks suckish. He tried his hardest to wreck the Subaru, but all it got was flaptastic doors and broken bumpers. No glass damage, no axle disalignment, light failure, nothing. Is all the damage just cosmetic by the way?
lmao.... the passenger just sits there while his door flaps in the wind... close that shit!! also both driver and passenger seem a little too calm as they destroy a 200,000$ car.
for all of those saying the damage isn't good, THIS IS BETA STAGE, WAIT TILL THE GAME COMES OUT, then you will be able to say if the damage effects are good or bad.
Instead of putting there so much cars they should rather focus on the damage modeling details... Since slaping a car on the walls like the guy did would end after the first hit... Not even the glass breaking srsly gtfo with such kind of shit... Is this a REAL driving simulator or an arcade wall slapping racing game... And talking bout Forza in case of modding the car it is MILES away from GT5. The customizing creator in Forza 2 or 3 is excelent...
Yeah, but put in mind that GT5 isn't out yet, so most of the game is in stage BETA. You can't compare a game that has been out for almost a year with a game that hasnt even been released yet.
@jesseman0612 forza is a pretty good game but i agree :P im getting a ps3 in 2 weeks just for this game :L all i need is a desent tv and for gt5 to come out :(
MY days, I'mk tired of speaking with people like you, GT5 ISN'T EVEN FUCKING RELEASED YET! DON'T COMPARE IT WITH SOME SHITTY ARCADE GAME THATS BEEN OUT FOR 3 CENTURIES!
1. Why no one care? that the driver in the cockpit in gt5 turn the steering just only by 360° degree and not 900° degree... i need anyone to complain about that.
2. There is a site for gt5 where some.. people give a idea and what they like to see in gt5 ???....sorry I can not write English so well!!
Then again...All the other GT games' damage was like bumper cars. lol
Surely from the looks of this it will affect your performance in races, but it looks like that it's not there to be a MAJOR feature that distracks from other features most GT players are drawn to in this there games. =/
Looking back I would have never guessed in a million years that Grand Theft Auto 4 would have 10000000 times more realistic damage than GT5, the proclaimed "worlds most realistic driving SIM!"

@thijsisf1fan the r8 looks like it got owned!
if you havent allready go and pre-order collectors edition 99.99 its a great deal... see you on gt5
KILLLER526 1 year ago
what they need is damage not only to the exterior but to the engine brakes wheels ect, getting flat tires from driving over bits of damaged cars would b great, or at least if u dont change ur tires in pitstops if they blow out
seaweedlicker 1 year ago
I think a lot of you are underestimating how much work it is going to take to create each car. Lets say each car has 10 destructible parts, with there being a whopping 900 cars in the game that's 9000 models right there. If they create 5 alternate damage models for each part that shoots it up to 45000 models, if each has around a 5000 (conservative estimate) polycount, that's about 225 million triangles. That's why there is gonna be a 3 disk release. :D
SICKMurderface 1 year ago
@SICKMurderface 5000 is deffinately a conservative poly count to say the least, with alot of the cars they have said they are going for 20, wait for it, million, poly's, i dnt get how but they are, if you see the konigsegeuxdbcdue well long sweedish name for a car, god knows how its spelt, well if you see the graphic demo, rendered in real time going around the car, tis be amazing
OuchIHurtMyNuts 1 year ago
@OuchIHurtMyNuts
first of all the koeniggseg video you saw wasn't even gt5. it was a pc render made by propergraphics, not polyphony digital. The car had 192.000 polygons. GT5 Prologue cars had 250.000. GT5 cars have 500.000.
paoloinmanicomio 1 year ago
y only those modded car has damage ??

Graphics are astonishing.... Damage? yes its there but extremely limited.

ScrewFearMe of corse ps3 is harder to develop for because it has 6 syneristic processing elements for games however these syneristic processing elements have no access to memory, the ps3 has 1 general purpose core while the 360 has 3 general purpose cores and in the future you will see the 360 do amazing things.
andrewjones1977 1 year ago
In the GT5 Prologue vid 'Beyond the Apex',Kazunori Yamauchi said that 'adding damage will sacrifice the beauty of the cars and he hates adding things that break our heart.'WTF?HE ALREADY BROKE MY HEART BECUZ THERE'S NO DAMAGE ON GT5P.
Don't get Prologue.Wait for GT5.Yeah,i know it's gonna be loooooonnngggg but,FACE IT!!!We can play GRID,NFS Shift for the time being until GT5 releases.
PS:I'm soooo freakin' gettin' this game.
MegaMaster456 1 year ago
This game is all about racing mang, full on damage like grid will just ruin it.
andrewtheone7 1 year ago
MrKyle080905 "the reason they took so long with gt5 is that they were on a new system" that is a poor excuse, since the 360s release turn10 has released fm2 and fm3 both of which have damage.
andrewjones1977 1 year ago
@andrewjones1977 the ps3 is harder to code for and stuff like that....and its Polyphony Digital......they are like Blizzard...it comes out when its done
ScrewFearMe 1 year ago
imagine drifting this at night tyme
but seriously november
ferrarispyders 1 year ago
No window damage? That's retarded to the sensitive graphics geeks, and good to the cockpit view lovers
BlazeArceus777 1 year ago
lost the gaaaaaame gt5 isn't out untill around christmas and you're talking about gt6 you people are unbelievable fucking hell be happy with what's coming instead of wasting your life away thinking about the next game, gt6 probably wont be out for at least 5 years anyway if you judge the time taken by polyphony digital to get gt5 out.
andrewjones1977 1 year ago
@andrewjones1977 gt6 will come out in a mich shorter time, the reason they took so long with gt5 is that they where on a new system, so for gt6 pd said its gt5 with updates
MrKyle080905 1 year ago
1:10 that's cool you can even see the drive press/release the gas/brake
SilentLucidity88 1 year ago
Surley itd be easy for them to let the bumper fall off. it looks like it wants too.
LostTheGaaaaaaame 1 year ago
i would like to see more destruction not just scratches. anyway it beats forza motorsport 2 ass
xxmanuelvaldesxx 1 year ago
GTA4 is the best about physical damages, even GRID is better than GT5 till now... i hope that GT5 will be a big surprise in terms of realism and damages
TGThePhenom 1 year ago
@TGThePhenom
Agreed, the system damage looks rather poor here. Codemasters are the masters of car destruction ;)
badabumbadabing1 1 year ago
@badabumbadabing1 Yeah, But they dont do it very realisticly. If there is gonna be proper damage in GT5 itll be really realistic, But thats unlikley for now, So we will just be having this. GT6 will probably go in to it more.
LostTheGaaaaaaame 1 year ago
gta4 has good car dmg physic but they need to be weaker thats all there cars are like tanks lolz
suckmylol 1 year ago
I dont see any scratches, dings, etc. after the entire video. All i see are body parts hanging/falling off. Shouldnt the axles, engine, transmission, or anything have taken a shot at 1:30-1:36? The body parts hanging off look cool, but the hood opens at 1:31 and sort of corrects itself a moment later. That seems off..fix it polyphony!
allstarplayer324 1 year ago
I don't think you can do any better than Polyphony.
PoorBoy1979 1 year ago
Actually mate this isn't the prologue this is them testing the damage on the full game, they keep on improving it that's why it's taking long to be resleased, more to look forward to I guess lol on the g25 aswell!!!!! XBOX fails
adzereastonfan 1 year ago
Damage as it is modelled in Burnout Paradise would be SWEEEET!
RatRaper 1 year ago
The damage looks suckish. He tried his hardest to wreck the Subaru, but all it got was flaptastic doors and broken bumpers. No glass damage, no axle disalignment, light failure, nothing. Is all the damage just cosmetic by the way?
FreezinFlamesGT 1 year ago
@FreezinFlamesGT No i dont think so. GT 5 will be a simulation game. But, when it will be released? In 230 days i´ve read?
mashed8 1 year ago
You've got to remember this is the prologue, and the ACTUAL GAME hasn't been fully made yet.
calumROBLOX 1 year ago
@FreezinFlamesGT
Oh geez, will you guys ever understand that this damage system was made in just 2 months? Everything is evolving!
hardvibes 1 year ago
What about a feature, which includes death of the driver or co-pilot because of a car accident? Or something similar to death?
C'mon, it is a simulator!
MIND4eva 1 year ago
that would be nice... it would be useful in making the driver not want to crash as much.

lmao.... the passenger just sits there while his door flaps in the wind... close that shit!! also both driver and passenger seem a little too calm as they destroy a 200,000$ car.
RSKBeats 1 year ago
@RSKBeats
you people are never happy. Instead of enjoying things that other games DON'T EVEN HAVE, you take the opportunity to be nitpicking. Dumbfuck.
lmao@your ignorance. The game isn't even out yet and this footage is 6 months old.

gt 5 best racing game ever.need for speed heading towards disaster.once again japanese on the top
g37muflih 1 year ago
i hope there will realistic damage for a realistic game
MrPSNdaz1182 1 year ago
for all of those saying the damage isn't good, THIS IS BETA STAGE, WAIT TILL THE GAME COMES OUT, then you will be able to say if the damage effects are good or bad.

is this the same as gran turismo 5 proluge?
Saggmos95 2 years ago
Instead of putting there so much cars they should rather focus on the damage modeling details... Since slaping a car on the walls like the guy did would end after the first hit... Not even the glass breaking srsly gtfo with such kind of shit... Is this a REAL driving simulator or an arcade wall slapping racing game... And talking bout Forza in case of modding the car it is MILES away from GT5. The customizing creator in Forza 2 or 3 is excelent...
lonigus 2 years ago
Yeah, but put in mind that GT5 isn't out yet, so most of the game is in stage BETA. You can't compare a game that has been out for almost a year with a game that hasnt even been released yet.
JoaoMario24 2 years ago
@lonigus
you think they don't?? This was just the result of 2 months of work on aesthetic damage. The game will evolve until they stop the development.
hardvibes 1 year ago
I'm not impressed but I guess its better than what they had before, ZERO damage.

Raven1xm 2 years ago
Then again...All the other GT games' damage was like bumper cars. lol
Surely from the looks of this it will affect your performance in races, but it looks like that it's not there to be a MAJOR feature that distracks from other features most GT players are drawn to in this there games. =/
