  • Does she have a facebook page??? <3

  • No qualifications, she is not a scientist or dermatoligist. I would find more credibility in someones opinion who has actually helped develop these products in the industry. Plus she changes her opinion while the big companies are already ahead of her, she was once against anti-oxidants being in skincare!

To be honest i just can stand the woman, she really paints a good vs bad guy image but in the end she is just as bad pluggin her own products and using consumer ignorance to her advantage

  • Is it just me or does this woman appear to have a serious vendetta against big cosmetis companies? So what if L'Oreal and Estee lauder own most of the brands on the market? Good for them! They also have the money and facilities to do much more extensive research than she could ever imagine!

I know for one that L'Oreal do not test on animals, they use viro testing - which is a synthetic replica of human skin! amazing! They also employ over 4000 scientists for their research.

  • 17 people works for la mer

  • I'm a student and can't afford high-end products and seriously, I love drugstore products!

  • Personally i think this is a load of crap.

I use both drugstore products and higher end products so i´m not saying drugstore products are bad.

But I think you have to consider how the products preform and feel.

I usually go for higher-end products when it comes to the things that will sit closest to my skin, and for eyeshadows.

With that said, i would never ever waste my money on mascara, eye/lip-pencils, lipsticks etc. from any high-end brand.

Above all, it's about the texture of the product.

  • @sealsex yes everyone's skin responds differently to products but paula reviews skin care based on the formulation, whether there are irritating ingredients, the marketing hype about organic/natural vs synthetic and stuff, i highly recommend reading her book called "the original beauty bible" it talks about everything :)

  • I have been wanting this book for the longest time...

  • haha i always go to the la mer counter at the department store and try all of the testers, but seriously there cream is just like the plainest cold cream around, and consequently falls into the why bother category

  • I want Paula to have her own You-tube channel.

  • @veggiieee She has.. :)

  • Wonderful , wonderful info !!!

    Thanks !!

  • I hate to agree based on my experience that La Mer was not better than products 1/3 of its price. It is a total waste of money.

  • Kim is great at interviewing!

  • haha, Paula is my hero!

  • I totally don't agree with the true match thing. That makeup sucks!! Maybelline super stay or revlon long stay is so much better when it comes to liquid foundation. But dream matte mousse powder is pretty good I have to say.

  • L'Oreal and MAC are owned by the same company.

  • No they're not. L'Oreal is owned by L'Oreal International. MAC is owned by Estee Lauder. You can go to L'Oreal and Estee Lauder's Corporate sites that list all the brands they both own. It's eye opening, to say the least.

  • @dc2610 Where did you get that information from? LOL L'Oreal is owned by L'Oreal, MAC is owned by Estee Lauder

  • thank youu paula!!

  • this is such useful information.

who would've thought LOREAL would beat MAC? lol

  • Great information!

  • this woman is amazing. . .

  • awesome. just awesome.

  • I have her book and I love it! I don't necessarily agree with everything she says, because sometimes she marks things down because they COULD be irritating to the skin - and if it doesn't irritate me I still use it! But very informational and great if you are thinking about trying a new product you never have before!

  • she is sooooooo intense...

  • This interview/conversation is sooo stressed-sounding.

  • But I like to buy the illusion that comes with a high price article :-) (at least sometimes)

  • that's quite true. I spent 7 bucks on a Life brand 5% Benzo proxzide, and it is working BETTER than the 40 bucks Proactiv which contains 2.5% Benzo proxzide.

  • Paula is indeed a very smart woman, but I can not believe that she is being entirely fair and unbiased about her comments regarding other brands/products. She has here own brand to push - both her and US need to be always aware of this simple fact.

  • she reminds me of Stacy London

    from what not to wear

    she looks alot like her

  • i like watching your video's cause you have a great understanding of products and what they contain, such as ingredients.which is important to know how they work because people can get confused into wat product is best for them + most of all if it's the right for them.

  • not much info in the video

  • As a makeup artist, it's all about the quality of the makeup - does it do the job? Pigmentation, blendibility, and texture are important...

The majority of makeup I use on myself and clients are from MAC - but I definitly have a few products from the drugstore that I have in my train case.

So when it comes down to it: if the quality of two products are similar, I will choose the cheaper one. This way, I can recommend it to my clients so that they can go out and buy it if they like it.

  • thank you sooo much for this video great!! FYI

  • If it literally has the same ingredients then I think that means that it's just all in your head.

I have heard so many people complain about MAC and Clinique making them break out so I'm not going to be agreeing with your insinuation that because it made you break out it's a subpar product somehow. But you know what.. go ahead and stimulate the economy.

  • You have to appreciate though that, Mabelline doesn't make everyone break out, it may have just been a reaction to your skin. As far as economically value Mabelline is still good quality. She looks at the similarity of ingredients..not necessarily personal preference over, texture, pigment, packaging etc.

  • Just because something is "cheap" doesn't mean it's low in quality. That depends on the company itself and their marketing strategy. Some prefer to sell their products at low costs, and some want the "high quality" appeal.

When you buy something at mac, you're not just buying the makeup. You're paying for the costs that go into packaging, training the workers at mac who help you pick out your makeup, and of course the brand name itself.

Don't just assume that cheaper = bad quality.

  • I agree!! Well said. i was looking for a lip and cheek stain. Benefit's Benetint is 31 Euros. That is just too expensive and I tried it, but I was not happy with the result. I bought a lip and cheek stain from a British brand, 2 True, and it was 3 Euros and 50 cents and it is great!!!!

  • I have this book

only thing is that they need to update the book like every 6 months or something

they dont have NEW products in their book

  • Mac also has better shadesand undertones to match many skin colors most stuff sold at wal mart or CVs are made with about the same undertone just in darker shades.

  • mac's foundation is known for a lot of people breaking out. >>; there are tons of drugstore foundations that can suit a skintone. you just need to look for it.

  • for about $15 less id rather have maybelline thank you :)

  • mac(:

  • ok so u just have EVERYTHING sitting out on ur desk showing??? everything??? i dont think so hun :)

  • you sound like a little girl - "BUT MOMMY!, this one has sparkles and butterflies on the cover oooooooo!"

  • the ceraveve cleaser is AWESOME!

  • I didn't like this lady's book because she hated EVERYTHING except for the products in her line....hmm?? Suspicious much?! I mean she literally found something wrong or to complain about in every line, every product, everything!

  • I dont know about that.. to me her evaluations are valid and thorough - giving you things to consider before you buy any product. ...What I like is that she considers the actual ingredients. Obviously, Paula isn't the one who is going to be reviewing/critisizing her own line! That is for someone else to do.. her website gives customers a chance to review, comment, and give tips from their own experiences.

I've tried both her gel eyeliner and lip gloss and i think that they are the best!

  • her "evaluations" in what? her book or her website? i'm only referring to her product reviews in her book..."Dont Go To the Makeup Counter without Me" - believe me, she hated everything. Her website reviews might be much more impartial?

  • thanks for this... absolutely awesome!

  • Comment vendre de mauvais cosmetiques américains et boycoter la qualité européenne ? Buy her book !

  • she has such a beautiful body.

  • hey whatever, i suppose some people enjoy spending that much on cleanser...you only live once ;)

  • love love love this book!!!!!

  • She didn't talk about the Aveeno face cleanser! That's the one I use! lol

  • ahhh i use that one too haha

  • Most of all is great to know what work and what dont. Then if u are like Angelina Jolie, Rihanna or Heidi Klum earn much more money then most of us then image is everything right, guess they will prefer the expensive version. That's the luxury of being rich, cant buy happiness but can almost buy everything else...

  • do you get barry m in the states? not tested on animals and excellent range of colours ( make up) and very good value, prices starting from 2.95 lip liner.

  • ouch on the mac review lol... but very nice to know lol

  • I want to know more about the difference between CHANEL and L'oreal, are textures the same? which one looks natural, which one not, oh please! do make up thanks

  • Nothing is different except the price. Drug store brands usually have better morals too by not gouging money out of people and giving them the idea that expensive is always better.

  • I agree with you, SlayerAngel90 in the sense that some lower end products are very similar to high end products (like, Chanel and L'oreal foundation) but drug store brands do not have better morals. High end companies have drug store brands just to make more money. It's all about money.

  • Wow, how the hell did we get into an animal testing argument?

  • um .. wtf .. in canada the maybelline miner powders like 20 $

  • this is in us dollars

  • She took the ingredients of the products into account; however, did she take the CONCENRTRAION OF THE PRODUCT into consideration?

10% benzyl peroxide does a lot more damage than 2%, for instance.

  • benzoyl peroxide actually isn't good for the skin. it makes you more prone to sun damage

  • then explain to me why a dermatologist would give it to their patients?

  • If you'd read any of her work you'd know that she not only takes the ingredients into account - she takes into account concentration, pH, combination of ingredients, and where the research/rationale behind each ingredient comes from.

  • she already said in her book that it irritates more

  • yuk, looks old to me, that "expert". lot of (bad) work done, he?

  • She uses Botox. She is in her middle fifties, so your "old" and "yuk" comments are obnoxious and pointless.

  • did you know that they are taking rabbits because they don't have a tear-flow-system like we have, so the rubbed in cream can't be washed out by themselves for days?

but what do i know, i'm not a scientist yet.

  • That is sick and tragic-using animals!! I will only buy things that are NOT tested on tortured animals!

  • maybe it's time we should do exactly that before going on and on about how humen come first in the hierarchy of the world and that our lifes are so much more precious than anything around, before and after us? but that's just my opinion.

  • thanks, although we have different opinions, that you're taking the time for such a no-end discussion. i know, it's quite a tough task, living without animal-testing. i try to, sometimes i fail, too, but i really want to try and live it.

  • Well, I used to think like you, but now I see that animal testing is horrible. Just ask my cat. (She hates lipstick!)

  • maybelline is doing animal testing. she didn't took that into consideration when praising it, did she?

we are where we are now by doing exactly this. exploiting tha nature and animal world for more and more and more meat, hormones, tests etc for less and less and less money.

i am a student and my parents are by no means rich , but i'm willing to pay more, if it's not animal tested or produced in a poor country. fact is, being morally right produced sadly often still costs more.

  • if we didn't do animal testing more than half the world would not exist and many people would die without proper medication. i'm totally against torturing animals and tantalizing animals and using them for money purposes and anything related to harming them WITHOUT REASON i'm against, but i value the life of a human being over an animal any day.

  • i totally get your point and i actually think that we're coming from the same angle, although i try to value every life as it is on the same level.

it's just that before bringing e.g. a foot cream on the market there is a line of testing you agree/have to do if you decided to do animal testing. rubbing a foot cream into the eyes of rabbits seems quite WITHOUT REASON to me.

  • you should read her book, she goes into that in her book.

sometimes animal testing is needed> medicine> every sunscreen

  • thats really sad that you think that the cost of a product would mean it is less likely to test on animals, thats truely amusing and that "cheap" products test on animals. considering that loreal owns more than half of the industry including chanel, mac, etc.

  • doesn't mac belongs to estee lauder and isn't chanel a private coorporation? i really like discussing this kind of subjects but i prefer people who knows what they are talking about. lots of drugstore products are from l'oreal like maybelline or garnier who are doing animal testing. and the sad part for me is that the very same company owns e.g. the body shop who is against animal testing. i'm sorry, but i don't think that "money rules" is amusing at all.

  • you are right, mac is not owned by them. loreal owns armani, Shu Uemura, lancome, La Roche-Posay, kiehls, etc.

what i found amusing is the fact that you somehow believe bc a company is more expensive it does not include animal testing, lol. read the consumer reports and the actual animal testing list which can be found at navs. fyi, maybelline does not include animal testing nor does garnier. and estee(mac, bobbi brown) has been blasted for using fur in their campaigns

  • of course i know that it's not all black-or-white. but i have to stay with my point of view when saying that a lot of animal-friendly products are very expensive. that's my experience when trying to only buy stuff without e.g. animal-testing.

  • yea, based on experience! < you were boasting about it as if you've done research and please you have not, saying that maybelline tested on animals just bc its cheaper!

  • Comment removed

  • come on, wake up

  • yeah, wake up.

  • be human friendly instead!!

  • like in my previous comments, i try to be both animal and human friendly. there is nothing wrong with trying imo.

  • i have to get her book=0

  • Paula is the very best. I adore her so much for her work. I'm going to see her next week. So excited...

  • she has BEAUTIFUL skin and hair. And the skin on her hands, which can really show your age, looks amazing. She looks great for her age!!!!

  • She gets some special cosmetic treatment by a plastic surgeon in Montreal. She didn't look this good a few years ago.

  • not on her hands, she gets botox on face, but botox cant give you amazing skin

  • If the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish and the Maybelline's version is the same, then I would love to buy the Maybelline one, but what about shades? I find all the drugstore shades to be too pink and many don't cater to women of color, so I have no choice but to buy MAC.

  • That is something that she points out in her book: one real advantage of the MAC line is their wide variety of shades and the fact that the range extends from very dark to very light.

  • Love Paula's book.

  • i loooove cerave, i have the moisturizer

  • thank you! :)
