This role may have been uniquely disturbing in a way that other controversial roles played by kids might not have been - ie Foster in Taxi Driver generated plenty of controversy from many of the same people upset by the Exorcist. There wasnt the added religious cache however.

One other thing which struck me at the time was that ironically, Blair may have played the role too well.
