This is one of my true favorites on YouTube. I'm almost certain that I have heard this piece performed inside a church and yes, it was nearly as amazing as this performance. Marília Vargas is not only excellent here but, I actually enjoy watching her sing here.
this is one of my most FAVORITE pieces. it sounds PERFECT in a church, as opposed to on stage. I would like to know more about the church they performed this in, if anyone has any info on it let me know.
The conductor is Jerzy Semkow. I saw him conduct the Royal Danish orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall in England in 1972 and since then I have considered him to be among the great conductors. He has conducted all over the US. He makes marvelous music as you can hear.
This will play at my funeral. No piece of music ever written encapsulates the torment of the dying quite like this piece does. What else can one do in the final hour but beg God for mercy as one realizes that his life was never as sinless as it could have been?
well no but he wrote this when his firts child died he wrote this for his wife ...and this part (kyrie) is quite sad so i think it could be played at a funeral...but id prefer the requiem at my funeral :P
The Christe eleison is straight from Heaven. Actually Mozart didnt finish this mass. The Credo is only half completed and there is no Agnus Dei. But what we do have of this Mass makes up for what may have been lost.
I agree--it really is one of the great works. How it has gone throughout the years without being publicized to a greater extent is beyond me. This was the first large work that I performed at the ripe age of thirteen. It will forever be one of my favorites.
I agree this is a great work, but it is not performed much because it requires not one but TWO great sopranos voices, and a great chorus. Without the two singers and a great chorus necessary to sing this music, it can be deadly boring.
Belíssima execução do Kyrie da Grande Missa na Candelária. Soprano de altíssimo nível.

Bravo Semkow! He is one of the greatest. I heard him in London in 1972 and he was great then.

You can chose what you want for your funeral. It's your last wish... I have already chose the Bachiana nr. 5 of Villa Lobos...

One of my Mozart's favourite pieces! And her voice...I loved this video!
Note: when this mass was sung by first time, it was Mozart's wife who sung! * Constanza Mozart *
