  • After release of AAg in 1948. Raj Kapoor conceived the idea of a movie titled Ghraunda in early 1950s with himself, Dilip Kumar and Nargis. But the project did not materialize. Dilip declined the offer. Years after Raj Kapoor made this movie based on the same script starring himself, Rajendra Kumar and Vyjanthimala. ( Orientlover posting from Lahore).

  • this shows some friends which in real they are not friend just show like that

  • Priceless expressions by Rajendra Kumar

  • thanx for the song . (i'm egyptian ) .

  • This movie was a big in Iran. I know many older relatives and their friends often sing at lats the first few lines. My mom used to drag us (me and my siblings) to Indian movies. At the time I was too young, and Indian Indian moves were all tear jerker. My only impression time were that Indian female actors were very pretty. I tried to watch a recent Indian movie. Not the same. May be I am older & more cynical, or maybe movies are not as good!

Thanks for putting up the song & clip.

  • @bannedgunner hi

  • Sangam had fantastic music by Shanker-Jaikishen. RAJ KAPOOR, on piano produced this film. Gopal played by Rajendra Kumar and Radha played by Vijyantimala.

  • IMMORTAL MUKESH-SJ -Shailendra song from RAJ KAPOOR film SANGAM.

Friend is no more a friend, Love is no more a LOVE

Life, I have lost all faith in you..

Sangam is a spiritual place in INDIA where 3 rivers meet.

The film story is a LOVE TRIANGLE. Raj loudly proclaims love for Radha. She however loves Gopal who also loves her but keeps it quiet. Raj joins the air force and is presumed dead in action. Gopal and Radha fall in love, but Raj returns alive, marrries Radha,Gopal commits suicide.

her love too. Is this the moral of this movie

  • cool this clip is available to save on that site mp4ify as mp3 or mp4 files - lookup on any search engine mp4ify

  • My friend is no friend, my love is no longer mine now. I have lost my trust over life.

O, my friend, you were the person whom I have entrusted my love.

You are the person who became my friend on the way of life.

All secrets are out and no confidant remains now.

Speaking with choked voice, you embraced me blushingly. Yes, it was you.

Intoxicated night is over. I am in senses now.

  • I saw this movie as a child in India and thought- okay. I am now 48, a doctor in London and this movie now blows me away. The pathos of this love triangle, still with respect between all three protagonists, has to be seen to be believed.

Golden age of hindi cinema 1940-70

  • Господи!Как долго я искала именно этот отрывок. Капур был гениальный актер.Фильмы с его участием и его фильмы,можно смотреть снова и снова.

  • WT HAPPENED WHO SCREWED

  • As to the person playing the piano (in the recording), one was a musician called Roberts and the other was Shankar himself (from the composer duo Shankar-Jaikishan).

  • Perfect creation from Shanker Jaikishan.. sweet voice of Mukesh..

  • My dad who is a native Persian speaker & doen't know a word of Hindi can sing this song by heart. Apparantly this movie was HUGE when he was growing up. I like the song too & can understand a lot of verses.

  • very classic but very modern song!!!

    amazing!

  • love triangle?

  • Thank you very much cinnamonianpalona. Sorry about the confusion. I have a lot of Pakistani & Indian friends. The music is so much similar.

  • Can someone tell what this song means? It sounds very sad! I am fond of Pakistani song, but I don't know what they mean.

  • it;s not Pakistani it's a famous Indian film song of the 60s: My friend did not remain a friend, My sweetheart did not remain my love. It's abt perceived infidelity coz his wife and best friend loved one another (but never acted on it).

  • if you hear pakistani songs, you will go mad...

  • Каждый раз когда я смотрю этот клип, слезы наворачиваются на глазах. Браво, Радж Капур.

  • the first two line means..

Friend didnt remain to be afriend

Beloved didnt remain to be beloved

  • dost dost na raha........what can i say anymore....life is life, ups en down....the best song 4ever

  • sweet like chocolate

  • دوست دوست نارها

    یار یار نارها

    زندگی همه ترا

    اعتبار نارها

  • Todays actors and especially the songs have nothing on the early years of bollywood.

  • great songs.

  • Naturally, the indian songs by the Greatest Male Singer, Moh'd Rafi, along with the Greatest Female Singer, Lata Mangeshkar, with near equals such as Mukesh and Asha Bosle bring that special uniqueness to the movies and they live on in our hearts long after we've forgotten the movies themselves.

  • no doubt mohammed rafi was great but its not fare to compare the legend singer and this song was sung by mukesh one of the greatest song of all time

  • I agree and I don't mean to compare Moh'd Rafi with Mukesh negatively at all. They were both great but wouldn't you agree that Rafi may have been one rung above all other male vocalists during his time?

  • I think both are great. But different. Comparing is quite bad. Personally i like sad songs of Mukesh and romantic songs of rafi. Kishore is another legend.

  • What Rafi could Mukesh couldn't what Mukesh could Rafi couldn't this particular song Rafi just could nopt have justice to it not even your great KL Saigal !Mukesh had a teenager's voice soooo touching.

  • @onlymullika rafi is the greatest ... and he could have taken this song to higher level.....we listen to mukes, kishore and manna dey ...whereas they listen to rafi.....thats his status.

  • Of course, no one can touch the incomparable Raj Kapoor whose seminal work was not "Sangam" as most believe but instead, "Mera Nam Joker" that was 20-30 years ahead of its time.

  • BTW: We in the Caribbean are big fans of Bollywood movies. I'm a fan of pre-1970s movies and Stars such as Waheeda Rehman, Asha parekh, Vijantimala, Nargis, Mumtaz, Helen, and of course, Hema Malini. The men include Raj Kapoor, Shammi kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand, Dharmendra, and Dilip Kumar, among others.

  • This was the second Indian Movie I ever saw - the first was AAKHEN with Asha Parekh - and immediately fell madly in love with her and Vijantimala. Over the years I've watched it at least 50 times (no lie) and know the melody by heart. It's the lyrics that stump me.

So, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could post the complete lyrics with translation.

  • Can someone post the entire lyrics of this song with the English translation?

I don't speak a work of Hindi but I have seen this movie since I was a little boy growing up in the Caribbean. The on-screen subtitles gives one the gist of the movie but there is not enough translations of the songs.

  • any english translation for the lyrics?

  • Dost dost na raha, pyaar pyaar naa raha Zindagi hamein tera, aitbaar na raha, aitbaar na

raha Amaanatein main pyaar ki, gaya tha jisko saunp kar Woh mere dost tum hi the, tumhi to

the Jo zindagi ki raah me bane the mere hamsafar Woh mere dost tum hi the, tumhi to the Saare

bhed khul gaye, raazdaar na raha Zindagi hamein tera, aitbaar na raha, aitbaar na raha

  • Dost dost

  • Great Movie-SANGAM

    Great Song:)

  • I mean anyone may listen to it and say "yeah its great" But once you actually watch the movie den you will know what he really means

  • The editing in this movie was crappy! He sang this song BEFORE he came to know that his friend and wife used to be lovers.

  • You have completely missed the point. The song depicts Raj Kapoor's inner insecurities. It is a great psychological moment in the movie. RK was not only a great director, he was a brilliant editor too.

  • you have to watch this movie to know how deep this song is

  • "Annie" is obsessed with how lovely Kashmiris are and how ugly "other" Indians are. Kashmiris are beautiful; so are Mizos, Nagas, Oriyas, Tamils etc you with a big inferiority complex.

  • zindagi hamein tera aitbar raha aitbar na raha....sapan tera aitbar na raha lol

  • annie go for islammabad blast accued they r muslims

  • very nice i love this song

  • go back to your mother land.. arab.. the land for desert and hungry people.you camel toe. dont talk about Vedic or Hinduism. you only knows wht terrorism is. Hinduist or more and more broader thn your thinking.....

  • aminasto aminasto type words written in farsi only which written by some fool arabian who never saw any greenery in arab and saw nothing like roses or water or ice. so they written it as heaven. i can bet. thr are so many heaven in India which more beautiful thn kashmir. mountains or ice doesnt meant for beauty. and wht Mr. Annie.. pakistanis are on our land not hindus. do u understand this? muslims are here.. not we hindus are.

  • actually pakistan or kashmir was nothing just a part of great civilization of Hindu+sthan or say it in real BHARAT. and mughal came here as a dacoit and robber and stayed here for long becouse thy wr kicked off from thr ugly hungry and barbarian homland arab the fuckin bhukhad place in world. and wht kashmir was? a territory of Hindu King Harisingh. thts it. and it was a small one only. thts why a very little reference are available in Hindu books and granths....

  • wow can u all shut up and just listen to this beautifull music

    and thank u =] lol

  • wonderful lyrics dude...

  • Hi from india. I am glad you honored us by liking this song. Turks and persians culture have greatly influended india and indians

  • disagree, only the muslim indian culture was influenced by persians and turkish. Hindus never changed thier disgusting ways

  • regarding drinking cow piss n shit..... i cud hav given u an extremly nasty reply abt ur religion , but i will restrain my self tis one time coz i dont want to hurt the sentiments of Indian muslims.....so why dont u fuck off from here , tis song, tis film , the actors everything is hindustani, hav some self respect n watch ur own films n songs....fuckk off from here MATHERCHOD.........

  • hindustani is a cop of urdu. simple as that

  • 1stly, as i said instead telling us ur false propaganda read works by eminent European indologists like Sir Gabriel;urdu is one of the dialects of standard hindi coz apart from the modified arabic script it uses, everything else is borrowed, grammer , sentence structure comes from hindi, vocabulary comes from hindi n farsi, Hindustani is a mixture of Hindi n farsi ( not urdu coz urdu is not even an authentic language).....

  • dis is wat is called as song... i just love it

  • I'm so sorry for those who do not understand where to talk about politics... plz judge what you are seeing here.... This movie is the best indian movie, very realistic and heart touching. I've always loved this movie since childhood. Regards from Iran

  • the friend will shot himself...

  • You guys need to take this political/linguistic discussion to a different forum, in my humble opinion. Just enjoy the songs, have fun, take it easy guys!

Why dont you guys pick the phone and take the discussion offline. Just not the right place for such a discussion if I may!

Cheers to all, great song by the way!

  • Kiu:Let me tell you something, in India only 4 % people can speak fluent English. And mostly from this "so called English speaking Indians" get to settled abroad. So people around the world think, Oh! Indians can speak English!!! But due to its high population (1000 millions) even small percentage makes big numbers. Rest (96 %) people communicate in either Hindi or in their regional language. However, most children learn English in Indian school. But that English is not enough for communication.

  • why should we, indians, speak english when we have our own language .why do you think that knowing english means properly educated? we should love and speak only in our own language .

  • well if i say the truth i love europe its a most romantic part of the world :)

  • Inspite of telling someone else not to follow british culture you yourslef are speaking english, which is not your fathers language if i m not wrong... pehle apni gariban main jhanko phir dusru ko kehne ki jurrat karo. pehle khud badlo phir dusro ko badal ne ki koshish karo. galiya dene se koi tumhari baat nhi manega, oolta aap ki maan baap ke bare main soche jinhun ne aap ko yahi sikhaya hai kiya.......

  • The greatest civilizations of the future will be the ones that were tolerant and flexible, open to changes and adaptations. China and Japan are realizing that fast and there is a huge rush in these countries to promote English in their primary curriculum. By shuting out and closing your society, there is nothing you will gain except false ego. It is about learning the most from the experience of life, the more you appreciate other cultures the better all rounded individual you will be.

  • Sir please change your iD. It is sickning. Sorry i just felt that way.

  • US has made Spanish their official language just because of Mexicans. One should adopt change and tolerance with open arms. Lanugage is a part of the deal. Freedom and tolerance are interrelated with each other. As Barack Obama said "You can throw away all Mexicans out of America, but is that the America you guys want? Is that the America that will be called tolerant and great?" By saying that one should throw out a foriegn language you are sowing the first seeds of intolerance.

  • America is a country of ambitions. See Barack Hussien Obama, a perfect example of American greatness. Can u imagine a minority race black (supposed muslim) winning in a white christian country? Thats America for you my friend. Same is India, Manmohan Singh Sikh PM, Muslim President and Sonia Gandhi is christian. Acceptance and Tolerance. That is the greatness of freedom and democracies in India and US. You want to chain this freedom with a particular language? It is not possible my friend.

  • China/Russia are not democracies. And let us not pretend, USA/UK gets a record number of immigration applications from middle east every year, and also from China/Brazil/Mexico/Japan and other 190 countries too. The world does love the American culture and freedom and wants to be a part of it. And I am not supporting the evil deeds of American government, but American culture and people are different from their govt.

  • True beauty of western culture is their freedom. For example they even dont care if their own citizens stay christians or become athiests. Their own citizens visit all part of the world, convert to all sorts of religions and speak all sorts of languages, they have absolute freedom. That is the beauty of western civilization. That is the environment where human creativity can thrive at its best, as we see in their scientific and cultural advancements. We aim to achieve the same freedom in India.

  • That is true that western civilization is good for that very reason. However in the name of freedom people abuse the right and use it to do bad things. So the western civilization has a pro and con on that aspect, India may not have full scale freedom but thats a good thing in a way because it maintains culture. Culture that helps bind families together, teach respect through humbleness. All that i point to prove, freedom on large scale is not always a good thing, it soon is taken for granted.

  • Freedom of expression is sacrosanct in democratic societies. In USA anyone who likes Buddhism can convert to it, no problems. Many in India converted to the Arab culture and went to Pakistan, we dont mind, it is their free will.

We admire western culture and knowledge a lot. If someone appreciates a culture we are not going to put locks on them, they are free to follow their heart. Even God does not interfere with free will. Western culture is beautiful and English is a beautiful language.

  • Hey one thing I dont understand, why are YOU so concerned if Indians speak English?

  • Wow! What great song by Mukesh from film Sangam.

Raj Kapoor was the the best actor.

  • true song...

    great melody...

    so meaning lyrics..

    i love it...

  • True

  • Well you are mistaken, Indians speak their own native languages Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu etc at home. Only in formal and business locations they speak English. Indians you know may be foriegn born they do not represent India. Another thing is that the number of Dane and Italian research scientists at Microsoft/Google or professors at MIT/Stanford is nowhere near number of Indians present at these places. So speaking English does not hurt in any case.

  • Of course one also needs the God Gift of exceptional creativity and intelligence for advanced research, but language should not be a hindrance. Indians have the gift of intelligence and creativity from God, but using English is important and language should not be a hindrance in development. Making it an ego issue is foolish.

  • Dude...WHOM YOU ARE TELLING... SPEAKING ENGLISH IS A MATTER OF PRIDE IN INDIA.. U WILL NOT BE ACCPTED BY THE SO CALLED ELLITE CLASS IF YOU DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH LANGUAGE.... SPEAKING HINDI IS CONSIDERED SHAMEFUL AND THOSE WHO SPEAK HINDI AND CONSIDERED UNDER EDUCATED!! WHOM U R FOOLING BY SAYING ALL THIS?

  • His character of emotional blackmailer attitude is awsome

  • Nothing can change India and Indians, update your knowledge that Hindi was, is and will be the identity of Indians and for your knowledge I'd like to tell you to update your knowledge before making any comment on not only India but any country or community as it hurts. So Pls. take care of that.

  • absolute delight to hear & watch

  • Gold Golden Song

  • Dude English is the language of knowledge, it is an absolute necessity in todays world. Second, Indian identity was always and will always be Hindi, neither the English nor anyone else could ever change it.

  • wow so nice song i love this song

  • Jeo Mukesh U R still the best, thanx Rajkapoor fan & You tube.

  • triangle love always bitters.

  • one of best song of all time!

  • ELİNE VE YÜREĞİNE SAĞLIK

  • allahi kurbande cek uzun havayi pf offffffffff

  • Simply sweet composition !

  • How beautiful.! The notes and the sentimentality behind the scenario!

Raj Kapoor and Vyjanthimala together how natural!it makes me wonder what happened to all those memories? evaporated right before our eyes!!Poof those days seemed so endless!

  • nope, orignal urdu is pretty different from orginal hindi. Hindi has lots of Sanskrits words and urdu has persian and arabic, but its around 70% the same lanuagnae. also if this song was in hindi, you would not understand it

  • Lets get one thing straight here, both modern hindi ( hindustani) and urdu are born in the hindi heartland of UP and r heavily derived from khari-boli - traditional hindi, hence both have uncanny similarity with traditional hindi....even though their scripts are different.

  • Most of the words in urdu are derieved from Hindi,( in some cases the pronunciation of the word is modifed a little ) and the words r written in a different script. ...just an example here, zindagi is used in both urdu n modern hindi, but it is derived from Jindagi in Traditional hindi......u think urdu discovered the word zindagi...noooo

  • how do u explain so many common words wit hindi n mind u hindi is in existtence from a very long time; u cannot just luk at the script part of the language and say its a different language,so many words in urdu r either directly picked up from hindi, or the pronunciation is modified a little and they r written in a modified arabic script. .I can write a hindi word called " DOST" IN English script, tat doesn not make ' DOST " a English word , it is a hindi word.

  • you moron urdu is a older language then hindustani, stupid hindi speakers just made a language called hindustani because they knew Urdu was made so beautiful because of the persian and arabic influence on Urdu. pure Hindi is such a disgusting language, just like pure hindu indians. If it was not for outsiders, u hindus will still be drinking cow piss and shit

  • annie19645: stupid motherfucker, urdu is not even an authentic language but an amalgamation of hindi n farsi. grammer n most of the vocabulary is hindi. Having said tat urdu born in the hindi heartland is most heavily influenced by hindi. Refer to books by expert Indologist like Sir Gabriel etc.

  • so what??? urdu is beautiful language because it has persian and arabic words, hindi it self is really dirty language.

  • copy of urdu

  • spoekn urdu has many variations; i did an experiment, I hav a pure farsi friend from Iran, i asked him to listen to a couple of bollwood songs, he said he cud barely understand 5% of the words, coz the hindustani used in bollywood films is very close to standard hindi; then i asked him to listen to pakistans national anthem n he cud understand more of it coz it uses more farsi words....so just by importing certain farsi words doesn not make urdu a novel language, ....contd

  • my point is farsi is beautiful and hindi is disgusting ugly language

  • all languages r beautiful....they r just a means of communication......so wen u say tat hindi is ugly it only shows ur depravity of mind...coz wat u speak in reality is hindi ( urdu is one of the dialects of khari-boli= standard hindi), the grammer , sentence structure all comes from hindi....vocabulary comes from both hindi n farsi....

  • but hindi is ugly because indias and india are a disgusting land

  • annie19645: i will tel u wat the problem is, the problem is u guys hav no identity or ur own,( no wajoot); u watch our films, listen to our songs, use our language n hav the audacity to utter crap....i feel very sorry for u guys; but u shud remember tat a beta shud not try to compete wit his BAAP, beta beta hota hai, aur BAAP BAAP hota; now if u hav even an iota of self respect why dont u get lost from here, go watch ur own films...or u will still stay here like a shameless pathetic creature..

  • the only reason some pakistanis watch indian movies is because you morons use urdu and bollywood is full of indians muslims who use urdu. if bollywood was all hindu and using disgusting hindi, no pakistani would touch indian movies. your culture is one sick culture

  • annie:idiot i just told u tat they use hindustani wich is closer to hindi;regarding bollywood its is full of hindu punjabis but ofcourse there r muslims ,but they r indian muslims distinct n different from fanatics like u, egs SRK has a hindu wife n he prays to hindu idols at home, same goes true wit salmaan whose mom is a hindu.so stop giving excuses to guise ur lack of self esteem, u remind me of tat street dog,who is stoned kicked yet it shamelessly comes wagging its tail..i feel sory for u

  • they use urdu moron because most of song writers are muslims, why the hell would they use a hindu language?

  • annie: why dont u read some books by scholars an Indologists before opening ur mouth.Who told u wen a muslim writes a poem it is in urdu ????n who told u there r only muslim poets in bollywood???? in ne case urdu is also an Indian language. The grammer, sentence structure is all hindi, vocabulary is hindi n farsi. So why dont u get the fuck out of here.

  • go search moron, 80% of the lyrics writers are muslims

  • abssolutely not ,go n search the list...but the point is When u use certain farsi words in hindi poetry, language does not change. The grammer , sentence structure n most of the vocabulary is hindi.

  • farsi is so beautiful. Old sanskrit was also beautiful but now you dirty indians made it disgusting because of your disgusting accents

Sanskrit was orginally from afghanistan/northern pakistan/kashmir area. But unfortunatly the main learning centers for sanskrit went to main land india, which is filled with disgusting people

  • The kapoors are from northern pakistan and are probably the few orginal hindus left.

  • u fuckin idiot , sanskrit is associated wit the vedic civilization, wich btw the way is a hindu civilization;n before the spread of islam in starting 695AD the whole region including afghanistan n pakistan were hindus n buddhist.....i think ur a a mentally retarted person n u need some help...why dont u consult a doctor.....i also had a look at ur homepage/channel page on youtube n many ppl said tat u hav a mental problem for the sheer stupidity of ur comments ....go fuck off from here..........

  • n u idiot vedic civilization was spread all over the subcontinent;there is nothing like a orignal hindu n duplicate hindu or a orignal muslim n a duplicte muslim ... so it is infact pakistan tats an illegitimate country born out of an existing civilization , n btw i hope u know wat sanaskrit is ?? it is a language of vedic(hindu) hymes n gospels, so if u love it so much, u can convert back to hinduism , ur very welcome......

  • hinduism was invented in northern pakistan/kashmir area. before that the mainland hindus were just a barbaric tribal people. They only adopted hinduism later on wards. Thats why to this day kashmiries hindus are considered the most superior because thier the orginal hindus. The rest are disgusting followers who brought so many disgusting things in to the relgion. orginally hinduism was a nice relgion, but dirty indians made it the way it is today

  • Because of cunts like you, pakis are used as target practice!

  • ???

  • there is nothing lke a old sanskrit or new sanskrit; lol....instead of sayin orignal hindus were from from pakistan ( wich is 1 of the most stupidist thing i hav heard), u can say the whole of pakistan is from India....

  • kashmiries hindus are very different from ugly indians.

  • Stupid fool ur pakistan did not exists till 1947 so it makes no sense in sayin this happened ; this entire land was BHARAT since 5000 years n ur pakistan was artifically carved out of our land,.....

  • Kashmiri hindus r considered superior ?????? wat the hell do u know about anything, let alone Hinduism????????? I think u hav totally lost it , ru mad or something???? Coz u seam to be sayin nething tat comes to ur mind; ..lol.lol..wel n if kashmiri hindus a superior then kashmir rightly belongs to us , HINDUSTAN.

  • no, kashmir belongs to kashmiries, doesn't matter muslim or hindu. However kashmir doesn't belong ugly benglis, tamils, gurjaratis and rest of ugly indians etc... you people are the ugliest people in the world. kashmries are beautiful

  • How can you believe what you have written? Each person is unique and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your thoughts make you ugly no matter what your outer appearance!

  • very well said Nuneaton

  • do you have any authority in your statement?.. guess, people are using their freedom of expression!!

    you surely need an eye-specialist!
