MIT Wind Turbine

Hi! I wanted to try and see if I could make a miniature version of this turbine, and i was wondering if someone could answer some questions for me because i'm new at this. What did you guys make your blades out of? Aluminum? Do you have a generator connected/DC motor underneath? And whats the top and bottom "rings" made of? Any help would be awesome!! Thanks :)

Since everybody in the patent business is abusing it to make money and use language to block new innovation, all education systems now-a-day are brain washed by ancient Jewish philosophy and psychology of greed. People just invent names with mind molding education to own properties and then shield it with abstract barrier in free market. After all, it is just a language game.

I can never understand if the helical wind turbine design is patented. Does anybody know? It seems rather strange that they would allow it since it would be like patenting a cup.

Alexander Gorlov and Northeastern have the patent in the North

America and most of Europe (Quiet revolution in UK took advantage of Northeastern's failure to patent there). Lucid technologies has the Gorlov patent. Gorlov was 2001 recipient of the ASME Thomas A. Edison Patent Award for his invention of the gorlov Helical Turbine.

Yeah that's a real shame... they should be knocking these out left right and centre for nothing. Patenting this is ethically wrong. When the need is allegedly so great it amazes me that the world powers allow patents in such developments. It's a bit like finding a simple fix for droughts in Africa and saying because we thought of it before anyone else then we have the exclusive rights to do it. Patents obviously have their uses but in this case it's rather controversial.

the bigger issue I have is how the patents are used for software design tools and the like... I have no problem with goods patents but despise non-open source tools which limit creativity. I'm interested in open source CFC tools/FFT FEM's development on graphic card hardware... as usual hardware is ahead of software..... 1TFLOP for under $6k US...
