Ajax used to be a warrior like Achilles. Then he took arrow in the knee... and then he just snapped it off and went back to killing Trojans on the beach.
im around the big guys size when i swing a sledge hammer it warps the steel so i dont think a little guy could withstand that force with just his arms i wouldnt try it
@PTCovers I care. I actually read the Odyssey in my English class. The W. H. D. Rouse translation. I thought there were two Ajax's or Aias's and one was the lesser and the other was the greater. In the book one of them died how you described and the other died in a storm being killed by Poseidon. Either way this doesn't match up, but still it was an awsome movie none the less.
@brian2189114 You're right about that. However for the purposes of entertainment they obviously have to make changes to the original story. But still you would agree that it is cool to see such scenes inacted in films. You can appreciate the battles that occured in the past between such legends as Hector and Ajax.
@PTCovers He committed suicide because he was so angry that he didn't get Achilles' armor that he wanted to kill the Greeks, but Athena, a goddes, made him insane and is this insanity he killed a hurd of sheep, then he was very ashamed and he killed himself
@PTCovers Correct. Ajax was also a highly prominent figure in the old legends: One of the mightiest Greek Champions. He and Hector dueled twice it is said, and survived both duels. He also killed many Trojan soldiers during the war, but after losing Achilles' armor - he threw himself onto the sword Hector gifted him with and died.
@xyPERSON This is based on the Iliad by Homer. However this film gets a lot of things wrong. For example, Ajax was never killed by Hector. He killed himself after losing to Odysseus in a competition for Achilles' armour.
Of course there is Greek mythology, but this film is supposed to be based on the Iliad, and it often shows events that didn't actually happen in the original epic poem.
whenever i get stabbed in the stomach its also my first reaction to break the spear in half and beat the motherfucker over the head with it. whattta badass.
mace like that is not a sword, which would just make a small hole in a shield (what just happened in that video), but the impact would broke Hectors arms..

@gLowje yes he would withhold it...if it was a regular shield than u would be correct but he picked up a phalanx shield that is almost indestructuble.
I hate Hollywood movies because they are not based on true, Ajax never died in Troy he survived and didnt even get wounded, but in this piece of crap he dies? Nonsense!
Ajax didnt die by hector in real life everyone. So dont rely on the movie for what really happened. They just needed a good fight scene for hector to win.
@Harris4Guitar thye fight of troy never happened in real life? are you retarted? read some history man. In real life Ajax and hector apparently fought with no victor and hector and ajax respected each other as equals after the fight and hector gave ajax his sword which he would later kill himself with and ajax gave hector something i dont remeber what its called that achilles would later tie hector to his cart with after he killed him and rode around troy with hector being dragged behind him.
@andyteves8 you're calling me the retard? read the iliad and you'll understand that the fall of troy was nothing more than an epic poem. Most if not all of these characters are made up, and imaginary.
@Harris4Guitar ok ur right. YEP the war was actually just a poem and achilles, hector, paris, helen, priam, ajax are all just made up and they were never real. Thank you so much for your great wisdom all knowing god of the iliad
@Harris4Guitar Actually the Illiad was an epic poem that like most tales at the time were overly exaggerated. Archaeologists have found strong evidence in modern-day Turkey of the city of Troy that was burned down in a fire. Besides if the Trojan War never occurred, how do you explain the refugees from the Trojan War moving to modern day Italy and eventually leading down to two boys named Romulus and Remus who were raised by wolves and would later build Rome?
why are so many here criticizing the film for "historical inaccuracies"? I believe the Iliad itself was a work of fiction, one that was told in many different ways at many different times. I could understand if this were a documentary but its not, Hollywood was free to do what they wanted with this one and I think they managed to do a pretty good job.
@diadora74 I also believe that the film could have followed the Iliad more closely.
About the historical accuracy, of course I know that the Iliad is a work of fiction, a heroic epic poem, not a history book. But I think you should also understand that the respect we talk about is not only towards history, but also towards literature.
Imagine this: Would you like a film about Romeo & Juliet showing them getting married and living happily until their old age? They are also fictional characters.
@Lhein33 if they made a film about Romeo and Juliet that didn't exactly follow the plot of the play it would be fine so long as it was a good movie in other regards. Likness to the original is not what makes a movie good, although it can make it better. Also, a movie in which Romeo & Juliet live happliy ever after would not be Romeo & Juliet because their deaths are central to the plot. Likewise, Hector defeating Achilles would not be Troy. But this is a minor battle, not central to the plot.
@diadora74 Menelaus' death and the escape of Paris and Helen are the same thing as the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If you want to describe the trojan war in 1 sentence, you would say: War about Helen, Troy destroyed and Helen reclaimed by her husband. They changed the core of the myth.
Also, a film can be very good even when it doesn't follow the literary work at all, but that's not "right". If the director wanted to make a film with such plot, he should have written a 100% new story.
@Lhein33 When a movie is “based on” something else, it doesnt have to have a 100% new story. The director clearly chose to emphasize the pride/arrogance of Achilles, one of the central themes in the Iliad. He does this by manufacturing a dichotomy between Achilles and Hector (whos character he obviously modifies a lot). The death of Menalaus and escape of Helen are not central to that theme. The movie is really one big Achilles heel and its at the director's discretion to change everything else.
@diadora74 I understand that and I have to say that I don't dislike the film, I think it was quite good, especially if you compare it with the dozens of stupid sci-fi films that use the names of the ancient gods and heroes and make them look like comic book superheroes or aliens.
I just expressed an objection regarding the change of crucial aspects of the myth. Besides, the film wasn't named "Achilles", but "Troy". I understand your point of view, but I think that you should also understand mine
@Lhein33 I totally understand your objections. I personally found reading the Iliad to be much more entertaining but as they are two completely different media, I enjoyed each for what it was. I couldn't say that the director did anything "wrong" by changing those aspects of the original plot, but other than that I think we're pretty much in agreement on everything else. Thank you for an interesting discussion :)
Good thing that Homer didn't watching this crapy movie. Does not have Gods, no Diomedes, Menelaos was killed by Hektor and other crazy ideas. Hollywood version is shit.
@Piers1580 yeah but in a movie thats like what an hour and a half or even two hours you have to change things up. Why show what really happened when you can work Ajax up to be a total badass? Thats hollywood for you :P
@thecynicish@omg62377 f---ing purists. This is a historical reenactment, not a remake of every other version of the poem.
What I love is you guys seem shocked, shocked as if you've never seen this film before.
You should be glad they gave Ajax the attention they did, any other filmmaker would have focused on Hector and Achilles and left the lesser heros out altogether. In the Iliad they have a 24 hour battle and neither man is able to touch the other. You can't do that in a film.
In Homer's Iliad AJAX is described as of great stature, colossal frame and strongest of all the Achaeans. Known as the 'bulwark of the Mycenaeans', he was trained by the centaur Chiron. Described as vicious, fearless, strong and powerful but also with a master combat intelligence. He is more powerful then any enemy he faces. He commands his army wielding a huge shield made of seven hides with a layer of bronze. Most notably, Ajax is not wounded in any of the battles described in the lliad.
Why does everyone hate the big warriors? I dont think I have ever seen a big warrior survive in a film like this, even though Ajax survives the Trojan war.. They are always portrayed as dumb slow brutes
People hate big fighters as they have an advantage of mass, power and strenght. So it takes wit to bring them down, remember David and Goliath. Its basically the victory of intelligtence over brute power. Is it unfair ? Surley it is. Wit will always overcome brute force. That's why guns were developed. The fact that guns can be used against flimsy people too, does not change the fact that it will gun down hulks.
@csbob2010 Are you retarted why are you pointing out inaccuarcys in the film. First of all it clearly says in the credits that it was inspired by the illad/oddyssey and its not following the illad.. And second if you want the 100% facts watch a docommentry and not a action movie for gods sake.
@animejerk05 Yes, its called a poetic license. I didn't expect any facts, nor did I imply that or say that I did. No I'm not going to go and watch the credits. No I'm not going to go watch a 'docommentry' <----- yea your a fucking idiot. I've read both the books and was making a simple observation. Go take your dumb ass comments elsewhere. I don't want to argue with you, it doesn't seem like you have the mental capacity to hold one in the first place. Please, fuck off now.
@csbob2010 pretty sure he didnt kill him in one on one combat! nothing was said if it was in during a battle btw have you even read the illiad? or better yet the Odessy? cuz it say he was killed
@theJRLMchannel Yes, I have read both. By the way, Ajax is not in the Odyssey. Anyways, Ajax survives the whole war and ends up killing himself for not getting Achilles armor. So yes, It definitely says how he died. Any more questions?
@MarioDungeonDice Finally!!!!! The only 'informed crictic' here that mentions the truth.
Ajax did not die in this battle, he died by taking his own life!! Ajax and Achillies were close and wanted the same female!!! After the battle Ajax was tainted by a vision of soliders that were actually sheep. He killed the sheep then came to his senses, realising his mistake he took shame for his actions and took his own life by opening a vein and 'losing the lifeforce' we know to be blood. Shame!
Dude if I was Hector,I'd be like FUCK!Just die, seriously your spine has a fucking spear through it,and a sword in your chest, and you're fucking choking me!
Menelaos survives and takes Helen back to Sparta, were she convinces him she was under influence of a god, and he forgives her.
Agamemnon survives the war and is later killed by his wife, who in turn is killed by their son Orestes, to avenge his father. Also, he wasnt fat and lazy, but fought alongside Achilles and Greek warriors.
Ajax did not survive the war, but was not killed in battle. He comitted suicide because he did not get Achilles armour, and he felt dishonourd.
@rsmovielord And Achilles doesn't die with ninethousand arrows in the breast but with JUST one well aimed in his backfeet, which is his only weak part.
@MarioDungeonDice bullshit. you people are living in a pool of myths . Achilles wasn't a god, he was a just human being like you and me but with better talents. that's it and nothing more. stop lying to yourselves.
@MarioDungeonDice : Which is strange since that's not a lethal point to be shot at. Perhaps the arrow was poisoned in real life? Or maybe it managed to sever a big vein/artery?
@rsmovielord and Achillies died way before they got in Troy at the gate and it was Appollo who killed him by guiding the arrow into the ankle. (the only part his mother didnt dip into the water) Also, Paris dies and Helen doesnt always love Paris like in the movie.
@SureJaddo actually they were sheep, he became mad after Achilles fell, and it is said that the gods i think Athena(not sure)made him to go mad, then he jumped on a sword thinking it was an enemy(it was gave by Hector as a gift after they fought an entire day,in the end they called a draw and they exchanged gifts,Hector gave him a sword )another flaw in this movie is the death of Achilles,he dies before the sacking of Troy,he shouldn't even be there in the movie, still its a great action movie
... and... And... AND... at least one of the trojan helmets needed a helmet mounted radio headset so that the defensive coordinator could relay formations from up in the booth, down to the field so that they could react to the offense's audibles... just a thought!
@MacBubbles That's true, but I think that all the other Trojans hit by Ajax didn't lose their helmets. It's generally believed by the producers of many flms that helmets prevent the audience from recognizing the fighters or seeing their facial expressions. In Troy, in the duels between Hector-Achilles, Ajax-Hector and Paris-Menelaus, all these men lose their helmets one way or another (except for Menelaus).

Why does everyone hate the big warriors? I dont think I have ever seen a big warrior survive in a film like this, even though Ajax survives the Trojan war.. They are always portrayed as dumb slow brutes
ShaggaSonOfDolf 5 months ago 3
@ShaggaSonOfDolf

Ajax was borned in my Island called Salamina,, it was the king of ours--He fought Athens a few times when still existed city-states in greece
jodalar13425 5 months ago
Pretty sure hector didn't kill Ajax in the Illiad.
csbob2010 5 months ago 13
@csbob2010 There was no helen in the illad. There was no trojain horse in the illad. Who cares its a movie.
animejerk05 3 months ago
@animejerk05 Its a movie? No shit. Thanks for useless comment. I was pointing out an inaccuracy in the film.
csbob2010 3 months ago
@csbob2010 Are you retarted why are you pointing out inaccuarcys in the film. First of all it clearly says in the credits that it was inspired by the illad/oddyssey and its not following the illad.. And second if you want the 100% facts watch a docommentry and not a action movie for gods sake.
animejerk05 3 months ago
@animejerk05 Yes, its called a poetic license. I didn't expect any facts, nor did I imply that or say that I did. No I'm not going to go and watch the credits. No I'm not going to go watch a 'docommentry' <----- yea your a fucking idiot. I've read both the books and was making a simple observation. Go take your dumb ass comments elsewhere. I don't want to argue with you, it doesn't seem like you have the mental capacity to hold one in the first place. Please, fuck off now.
csbob2010 3 months ago
@csbob2010 pretty sure he didnt kill him in one on one combat! nothing was said if it was in during a battle btw have you even read the illiad? or better yet the Odessy? cuz it say he was killed
theJRLMchannel 3 months ago
@theJRLMchannel Yes, I have read both. By the way, Ajax is not in the Odyssey. Anyways, Ajax survives the whole war and ends up killing himself for not getting Achilles armor. So yes, It definitely says how he died. Any more questions?
csbob2010 3 months ago
@csbob2010 would explain why he was in hades

@mrsoundsmithy1 bravo!

assassin1911kya 5 months ago
Ajax didn't die for the hand of Hector, but suicide when Ulysses obtained the weapons of Achilles instead of him. This film is totally fake.
MarioDungeonDice 5 months ago
@MarioDungeonDice Finally!!!!! The only 'informed crictic' here that mentions the truth.
Ajax did not die in this battle, he died by taking his own life!! Ajax and Achillies were close and wanted the same female!!! After the battle Ajax was tainted by a vision of soliders that were actually sheep. He killed the sheep then came to his senses, realising his mistake he took shame for his actions and took his own life by opening a vein and 'losing the lifeforce' we know to be blood. Shame!

Real story:
Menelaos survives and takes Helen back to Sparta, were she convinces him she was under influence of a god, and he forgives her.
Agamemnon survives the war and is later killed by his wife, who in turn is killed by their son Orestes, to avenge his father. Also, he wasnt fat and lazy, but fought alongside Achilles and Greek warriors.
Ajax did not survive the war, but was not killed in battle. He comitted suicide because he did not get Achilles armour, and he felt dishonourd.

@rsmovielord because Odysseus was more boss than him.
ToStrideForFame 5 months ago
@rsmovielord And Achilles doesn't die with ninethousand arrows in the breast but with JUST one well aimed in his backfeet, which is his only weak part.
MarioDungeonDice 5 months ago
@MarioDungeonDice bullshit. you people are living in a pool of myths . Achilles wasn't a god, he was a just human being like you and me but with better talents. that's it and nothing more. stop lying to yourselves.
Mravenger5 5 months ago
@MarioDungeonDice : Which is strange since that's not a lethal point to be shot at. Perhaps the arrow was poisoned in real life? Or maybe it managed to sever a big vein/artery?
Halofreakanoid 4 months ago
@rsmovielord and Achillies died way before they got in Troy at the gate and it was Appollo who killed him by guiding the arrow into the ankle. (the only part his mother didnt dip into the water) Also, Paris dies and Helen doesnt always love Paris like in the movie.

Another fault with the movie ^^
Ajax didnt die from hector, he killed him self after slaughtering a load of cows thinking they were Greeks from embarissment :P.
SureJaddo 6 months ago
@SureJaddo actually they were sheep, he became mad after Achilles fell, and it is said that the gods i think Athena(not sure)made him to go mad, then he jumped on a sword thinking it was an enemy(it was gave by Hector as a gift after they fought an entire day,in the end they called a draw and they exchanged gifts,Hector gave him a sword )another flaw in this movie is the death of Achilles,he dies before the sacking of Troy,he shouldn't even be there in the movie, still its a great action movie

@Augray37
... and... And... AND... at least one of the trojan helmets needed a helmet mounted radio headset so that the defensive coordinator could relay formations from up in the booth, down to the field so that they could react to the offense's audibles... just a thought!
MacBubbles 7 months ago 35
@MacBubbles That's true, but I think that all the other Trojans hit by Ajax didn't lose their helmets. It's generally believed by the producers of many flms that helmets prevent the audience from recognizing the fighters or seeing their facial expressions. In Troy, in the duels between Hector-Achilles, Ajax-Hector and Paris-Menelaus, all these men lose their helmets one way or another (except for Menelaus).
