I was lucky enough to be in the 10th row center seat when this was taped at Hamilton Place. It was the first time I heard "Sequel" I still get shivers when I hear it!
I loved Harry Chapin as a teen and it never changed. I mourned his early death, and like many others wonder what would have been had he lived longer. Had never heard this one before and am so glad to know he did another chapter in this story. Was priviliged to see him once at the NAU dome in Flagstaff,Az in 1978.One of my best memories. He was really larger than life, Miss you still Harry, Heaven must love your music. You are still popular 30 years after you were called home. RIP HARRY.
I got to see the love of my life for the first time in 20 years and I loved to see her smile and see where our dreams that were filled ... some times you cant find all the answers but you what I found my soul for once in 20 years and I know now which way to go ... I love you girl and I always will!! ,, It is our journey between heaven and hell.
I adored Harry Chapin, as a musician and humanitarian. I was SO lucky to have seen him perform many times in Kansas City in the 70's. The last time was 1979, front row & center at the Uptown Theatre. No other concert sticks in my memory as this one did... miss his talents and kind personality so very much.
I wonder what an impact Harry would have had on the world scene if he had lived. What a great singer, song writer and humanitarian. Rest in peace, Harry. I miss you.
"and the look on her face when she opened the door was like an old joke told by a friend. It had taken ten more years before she found her smile and I watched the corners start to bend"
She said I heard you flying high on my radio and I answered it's not all it seems. That's when she laughed and said it's better sometimes when we don't get to touch our dreams" "
" When I asked her why she looked so happy now she said I finally like myself...at last I like myself"
Some of the most meaningful times of my late teens/early twenties was bringing cans of food to the Hartford Civic center, or @ the Jai Alai, to partially pay for our tickets. Friendliest performer we ever knew. Would sit in the lobby after the show, voice hoarse from a long set - and would stay for an hour or more - just talking. I'm man enough to admit I cried when the announcement came over WDRC, one of Harry biggest supporters, that he was gone. The world changed a little bit that day.
This one of those rare songs that makes you think about where you have been....and the ability to look back and see how far you have come....rather it be good or bad.
Driven many back roads, interstates, roads to nowhere for no reason with Harry blaring in my truck for many years. He had a way of nailing the human experience in tales both light and not so, but always Harry and very real.
I remember seeing Harry at the Schaefer Music Festivals in Central Park. His concerts were the only ones I bought tickets to. The others' I'd just sit on the grass outside. There was something about Harry that made you want to sit near him.
I remember listening to Harry back in the 70's. This brought back memories, even a tear in my eye, as I sang along, having known all the words. R.I.P. Harry

R.I.P. Harry Chapin, this song along with Cats and the Cradle were two of the greatest songs of the 70s.
He died way too early!
