  • My God, you have such an ENORMOUS gift, now give it back to the world... I hope that you'll one record this kind of music and I'll be first in line to buy it! So gorgeous!

Are you aware that Mahler played a lot of Bellini/Thasberg? I hope you go just as far as he did, but that you'll have an easier road to travel...

Blessings! I so enjoyed that! ~Cate

  • Very musical playing. Lovely to listen to!

  • @MUEREACOSTA The sheet music library at imslp.org (a very useful site) has it. Youtube isn't letting me post a direct link in the comments, but browse by composer name, select Thalberg, then select The Art of Singing Applied to the Piano, Op.70 (Thalberg, Sigismond) and it is the first piece from that set.

  • @MUEREACOSTA I've been playing since I was a child. The hardest bit of this piece is the section with trills near the end.

  • Bellini maybe wrote the most beautiful melodies in a very simple and sincere way, but offering a large palette of rich harmonics. I think he was not, and still now, very much understood. He never overloaded the arias with too much vocalises and notes and by the way was able to reach your heart with an intense emotion. Sincerity and elegance were according to me the heart of his music. Thank you alkanliszt for this moving interpretation !

  • May I know who composed this? It's beautiful.

  • @bitterkayne The original melody is from Bellini's I Puritani. The piano arrangement is by Sigismund Thalberg (1812-1871), a celebrated pianist of the time.

  • I love the way you play these songs. You show a great sensitivity to the melodic lines and feelings that go with the words. Even though the song is not "sung", it actually IS sung very well in your playing. Thank you for these performances. I listen to them almost every day.

  • Thank you for playing and posting this. So much more interesting than hearing Chopin's first ballade for the one millionth time! People who love Bellini love melody above all else; you can be sure they love hearing his melodies played on the piano as well.

  • I completely agree with you. Chopin's first ballade is great music, but there is so much fine music out there which is almost never heard.

  • Comovente!
