  • People, I can see the frustration from the whole Star Wars thing, but I actually thing making this move explains a very important term in star wars. "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." now we know when that long time ago happened.

  • 2 things 1. Adding star wars wuz pretty dumb 2. The legend of Nightmare will always live on

  • wow........ this is really lazy when compared to the 3 and 2's intro, i would even say soul calibur 1 had a better intro than this. :/

  • the appeal of soul calibur is that it has old fashioned fighting styles and that it mixes European and Asian weapons and techniques, but the addition of star wars is completely unwarranted and ridiculous. SC3 got my hopes up for a continuation of such good games, but this just tanked them. if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it only to ruin it Namco.

  • Not as fun or exciting to watch than the previous games cinematics

  • @hide230 III's especially was so much better.

Also I get that there's the gimmick of putting your own character in the intro, but still, having an opening that's essentially using the in game character models is just lazy.

  • @IronSoul890 I will admit I loved how they handle the beginning with Algol, Soul Edge, and the making of Soul Calibur and all. However, after that the follow up was really weak, and that scene would have been positively awesome with the quality CG that 360/PS3 can obtain nowadays.

  • this game is nothing to sc2 and sc3

  • well i can understand soul edge and soul calibur standing up to a lightsaber considering their "magical" blades

  • T_T i suck at this game

  • Play the song "Requiem for a Dream" at the start of this opening.

  • If you look at the times before the Republic and films, back to the time around KotoR and earlier, the Sith and Jedi used swords, vibroblades, etc against lightsabers and were able to parry with ease. The Sith used Alchemy on many of there weapons to make them even more deadlier then lightsabers. Lightsabers in essence are Star Wars version of the Katana. The Katana can cut through a great deal of objects with ease, but will not easily cut if there is no force or momentum behind it. The...

  • @Napalm006 lightsaber is much the same. Yes it is a field of energy directed to be an omni directional blade within the cylinder that it is projected but that does not mean the blade will simply eviscerate every thing in its path. A sword is a sword.

For the TL:DR bunch out there: Play KotoR or read the Star Wars EU and then you'll understand

  • @Napalm006 Actually, lightsabers cut and melt through most metals like butter. Vibroblades themselves could be cutted in half as well. To prevent a Deus EX Machina, they came up with Cortosis-weave treatment for metal. In short, weapons, armor, etc treated with cortosis-weave could withstand a blow from a lightsaber, interfer with the lightsaber and switch it off. (cont)

  • @Napalm006 The vibroblades didn't take full avantage of the cortosis-weave, because they were vibrating, ence they weren't able to disable the lightsaber, only parry it. Armor usually disabled the lightsaber. Now, if all nonmagical weapons in SC universe were somehow coated with a extremely rare and alien cortosis-weave treatment, that would leave the fact they were not vibrating, and as such, they should work like treated armor and disable the lightsaber.

  • @Napalm006 Either that, or Star Wars shouldn't be mixed with a fantasy franchise, and this is just a mashup, that's become quite common sight in the last few years in an attempt to cross sell franchises. Shameful, I hate it, I feel it rapes both franchises, but in the end, it's a game about 2 people fighting with sharp weapons with no visible blood or cuts - I guess simulated accuracy is not their goal =)

  • 3 people are Trekkies.

  • i think for SC5 that the characters they should guest star shuld be cloud from final fanasty, sora from kindom hearts, and laharl from disgaea

  • wow i luv this intro! its awesome! gaahhh...Darth Vadar is awesome! lol

  • Inferno was lazy work on Namco's account, just an imitation character, soo cheap, dull & uninspired. In SCIII they seemed to have realized that a fighting game needs a true boss, and they even gave us two! Abyss & Night Terror, both of them awesome & perfect for the job. But, in SCIV Namco screwed up again with this ridiculous Algol guy, whose fighting style is even more ridiculous, yeah pull out a cannon & shoot energy bubbles, thought it said Soul Calibur not Dragonball on the title..

  • @TheParnak Inferno should have had the abillity to switch weapons mid-attack - kind of like Necrid but better.

  • the reson is that the metals in the time period soul calibur takes place versus those in the star wars time period is advancement and age. star wars takes place not only in a past time, but a completely different universe.

  • Fact: Lightsabers in starwars are just shiny poles :D

  • Here's what I never got; How exactly did Algol kill his son simply by blocking?

  • @MJNSEIFER the energy from the sword volted through his body, killing him

  • @ironman9071 Oh, I see! Thanks, I'd been wondering since I found out the storyline.

  • It would be nice if in the Soul Calibur there could be more character design customization... The customization options in IV are pretty impressive, but you're still limited to a handful of face types. A 'customize your character' mode a la Fallout 3 or Oblivion would be awesome....

  • The next soul calibur, they should have a new charector that uses Sai's.

  • mierda sos voos jodido fanatici d la guerra de las diarreas jajaja traduci lo que te digo jodido gringo jaja puto star war

  • Vader says "Hello"... >:]

  • If that was a real light saber wouldnt Mitsurugi's katana be chopped into pieces

  • sounds about right...

  • if you play KoToR,swords could stop lightsabers.

  • maybe he had one of the blades from knights of old republic

  • The explanation is that the SC warriors are magic, so their weapons have superpowers.

  • my favorite char is Nightmare and Voldo maybe servantes too

  • Sucks that they didn't mention Kilik... In my opinion, he's one of the best of characters.

  • go Vader!!!

  • Love the letimotif at the end.

  • yoda rules

  • siegfried rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • since when can a light sabre not penetrate a normal sword? Weird...

  • since soul caliber 4 came out

  • Anti-spiral voice saying "soul calibur 4." Fail.

  • The gameplay from the best to worst:

-SC3 for the storylines in Tales of Souls where path choosing is really good

-SC2 for its epic fighting system and Weapon Master Mode

-SCI although I never played this game, but when I see the gameplay, it looks cool despite the old graphics

-Soul Edge, I never played this game, but nice gameplay

-SCIV, best graphics. But, Star Wars characters are crap, and too out of place!! Nothing to do in this game but fight, fight, and fight! No stories or anything!

  • i agree with everything except the last one. although the star wars characters are a bit out of place they arent crap. and its not just fight, fight, fight. it has one of the best story lines of all of the SC games, second only to SC3.

  • The openings (from best to worst):

    -Soul Edge/Soul Blade

    -Soul Calibur II (PS2 version)

    -Soul Calibur III

    -Soul Calibur I

-(The Worst) Soul Calibur IV (All versions), because the Star Wars characters seemed too out of place!

  • If this game would be for the Wii, the Star Wars character would be General Grievous.

  • Ivy=( . )( . )

  • Ahaha.

  • hahaha whats next ? baseball bats that parry light sabers?....jedis are not so special after all...

  • Vader and Yoda SUCKS!

  • PS3's intro version looks better with Vader.

  • This game is totally ruined by the franchise of Starwars!!! My favourite one is SC3. SC2 is epic, but the separation of Heihachi, Spawn, and Link is quite annoying! Damn capitalism, it made the game companies care less about gamers' feelings of not having the missing characters in each console versions! Namco had gone too far this time!!! We lose money just for one lousy missing character when we buy the console that the missing character's in! Oh well, we've been tricked. Tricked forever.

  • Namco have also released a ton of DLC, which all costs a fair bit. They're just money grabbing.

I agree Soul Calibur 3's my fave too, but in SCIV they seem to have gut everything that was good about SC3 from it.

  • Hey, would you stop copying my comment, COPYCAT! It is my personal opinion!

  • So true, Star Wars characters don't belong here, and adding them to the classic SC staff is really unnatural. In SC5 they could add Mario and Sonic maybe, and make the game even more twisted.

  • Ahh... first of all, SCIV is the last series Namco will ever make. In Siegfried's ending (as we all know), he freezes himself with Nightmare, and so are Soul Calibur and Soul Edge. Therefore, their powers will never be unleashed to the world again. So SCIV is the omega series. SCV will be impossible to continue from SCIV.

  • Soul series is popular and it's a gold mine, they would be stupid to end it. Of course there's always a way to bring old characters back. Or make new ones. I don't think it's the end, and I honestly hope to see more of Ivy and Tira. Maybe they could start a new series with classic SC characters. I always thought that characters with such epic background stories would deserve better game than a fighting one. Something like Tomb Raider, just with Tira as main protagonist, would be awesome for me.

  • lol..

  • Don't try and show everyone how arrogant you are. Everyone has a right to express their own opinion. Acting like you know everything better than others may seem to be cool, but it isn't.

"I said there will be no more SC and I laugh in the face of anyone who says otherwise."

What happens in Siegfried's ending doesn't really matter, Nightmare died in pratically all endings in all the games in the series and yet he came back again and again. As long as fans want more SC, the series will live on.

  • I would love to see some literary characters in SC like Drizzt Do'Urden (if you know who that is) and Artemis. Or even some characters from Norse mythology since they are so well known for their powerful weapons (such as Thor and his hammer or even Odin and his spear). I also hope (if there is an SC V) that they flesh out the character creation a bit more.

  • I didn't know who Drizzt was, but Wikipedia did. ;-)

Actually I'm quite happy with the characters we already have, and it'll be perfect once they get rid the ridiculous hosting characters and those silly bonus characters (excluding Shura, she's cool and it feels like she really belongs in the SC universe; with an original moveset she could become a regular character). But honestly, as long as I have my beloved Ivy and Tira, I don't need anything else. Well, maybe smaller breasts for Ivy. ;-)

  • or thay will make a new with the characters that never died and put new character in

  • I always thought that the multiple endings in the SC series was just like the MK series, you never know which ending is the right ending until the next game. Besides, it is never impossible to continue a series. There is always loop holes. If the game will make them money then Namco will not let a little thing like a storyline stop them from making Soul Calibur V.

  • You forgot mortal kombat characters! xP

  • Comment removed

  • wouldn't Darth Vader's saber cut through Mitsirugi's Katana

  • yes, unless it was from mandalorian steel or cortosis

  • This game is totally ruined by the franchise of Starwars!!! My favourite one is SC3. SC2 is epic, but the separation of Heihachi, Spawn, and Link is quite annoying! Damn capitalism, it made the game companies care less about gamers' feelings of not having the missing characters in each console versions! Namco had gone too far this time!!! We lose money just for one lousy missing character when we buy the console that the missing character's in! Oh well, we've been tricked. Tricked forever.

  • vader's lightsaber shoulda cut mitsurugi and his blade into swiss cheese wtf?

  • but then it wouldn't be a fair fight

  • maybe his sword has kortosis in it? rofl

  • maybe or mandalorian steel that is something like titanium

  • I guess Mitsurugi's katana has a cortosis-weave.

HA! I've out-nerded all of you!

  • /owned

  • I Think This Is A Good..Opening,But I Think SC3 Had The Best Opening Of All (: I'm Buying A Xbox360 Next Week,And I'm Getting This Game,It Look's Awesome,On Xbox360 You Get Yoda,And PS3 Darth Vader.

  • SC 2 had such an amazing opening and music... *sigh*

    What a step down.

  • SC3 had a cazy opening as well it was long but I like the game SCVI because it finally get some online from first time why the Star War franchise in this game that Star Wars is very big in japan right now

  • Look, if Mitsurugi's or anyone elses' sword can go toe-to-toe with Soul Edge, they can deal with a Lightsaber. Sould Calibur logic seems to maintain that the swords of the characters are more than just steel. Anyway, I was a tad disappointed by this opening. Sould Calibur 2 and 3 had awesome action packed openings. It was too short, and too calm. I hope the game is better.

  • When faced with an eight foot tall, black armor clad guy with a beam sword, Mitsurugi doesn't even flinch. He is so awesome.

  • Mitsurugi's sword must be strong in order to clash against a lightsabor....

  • Uhhh... wut?

  • Does this game have some excuse to why those swords can stand up to lightsabers?

  • No, not to my knowledge XD

  • I know!! .Like come on, the lightsabers cute everything !!!!!!

  • uh! not Mitsurugi's blade! No finer swordsman alive!

  • The regular blades HAVE to stand up to lightsabers in the game or it wouldn't be much of a game, and everyone would just use the Star Wars characters.

Still, it would be helarious seeing a vid of say, Algol, thinking he was invincible with both spirit swords, and Vader cuts them in half with no effort at all, then seeing the look on Algol's face, hahaha!

  • @LuigitheSith i actually remember playing force unleashed at cloud city, i was fighting this JAR-JAR guy who had a stone sword. he whooped my ass.

  • Ah, so the only difference between the 360 opening and PS3's is the the fight scene between the Star Wars characters. In the 360 version, it shows Yoda jumping on Astaroth's Axe. =D

  • the intro is just ok.....gonna try out vader when i get dis game.....mitsurugi is still ma fav though.....

  • Stupid opening, IMO. It only features a few of the characters.

  • is soul calibur like brawl? different characters from diff games who are like, swordsmen come and battle each other?

  • No. Soul Calibur is primarily about original characters, and occasionally features guests.

  • i got mine for the PS3 today vader is so much fun i love this game

  • Darth Vader!!!???? O_O

  • isnt Siegfried nightmare? or am i wrong..i remember from the soul calibur from gamecube another costume for nightmare looked alot like Siegfried

  • Siegfried was Nightmare in Soul Calibur 2, you're right.

  • I'm a little disappointed with this opening. I expected a super-shnazzy pre-rendered CGI thing like in Soul Calibur II, but all I see is a nonsense story involving characters from completely different universes. Thanks for uploading, though.

  • Yeah, that's what I expected too, I thought it was odd that they didn't do one.

  • Damn, the new Nightmare looks badass. How's the gameplay, Mr. Blaze? Good as the last two?

  • The gameplay is *probably* better than the last two as they've added some new elements such as being able to knock off armour and Critical Finishes which are devastating attacks.

  • Why didn't the Wii get a release featuring Sky Walker?

  • Wii shoulda got General Grievous haha

  • You can have General Grievous! I want Soul Caliber...amongst another other fighting game (Mortal Kombat vs DC).

  • I also still cant beleive they put yoda and darth vador in it xp

  • I've been wondering if i should get this game or not. Wut do u think of it so far?

  • It seems pretty good so far, but I can't really judge it until I've played more of it.

  • Is this just a fighting game?

  • Yes

  • Is it fun? Wait a minute, what am I saying? I'm not getting a PS3 OR AND X-Box. Never mind...

  • for wut system, does it have online play.

  • It's on PS3 and 360 and yes, it has online play

  • 360 + PS3

  • wow i already beat it but it was a great game for sure angelo you will have alot of fun trust me!

  • Thanks, I hope I do. It came out in Europe today, that's why I got it.

  • oh cool but lets brawl later tonight but idk your fc lol

  • did you get it for PS3 or 360?

If you have it on PS3, I'll message you my PSN.

  • PS3, sure send me your PSN.

  • wow this game looks cool, never knew darth vader could travel through time though

  • cool first view and comment

  • Damn awesome man! I'll be waiting for your SCIV vids!

I get to play this in 4 years, sucks to be me.

  • Ouch, you saving up to get a PS3 then I take it?

  • Thats right.
