it is really unspeakably sad to see how richard wright enjoys this event and knowing that he died just when pink floyd were about to come back to life...
Why, oh God why the "NO MORE EXCUSES" text on Arial? I mean, it's really big; we all can see it up there... Helvetica was too expensive? Anyone knows what I'm talking about?
I've followed floyd from the sid barret yrs. As talented as they were then, is of no comparison to how each of the 4 (water's, gilmour, wright, mason) evolved and became maestro's. The incredible talent, each shared, was a true testament to music. I have dissected the 3 albums dedicated to sid barret ( dark side, the wall, wish you were here) to solo out each member, and to this day still find it amazing. There will be NO OTHER ban that will compare to what these people have done ...
What I have always admired ( Being a Pink Floyd Fan for many many years ) about each and every member of this classic line up, is the way they play, in such a fine way, the sounds, their personality, their class, for instance, Nick's drumming, so delicate and sublime and at the same time with such an impact, David's soloing is so perfect and melodic, Roger's articulated and unique bass riffs, Rick's ( Another God in Heaven ) deep and mesmerizing keyboards, a dream come true ...
Last time that they were together, live 8. Richard Wright, David Guilmor, Dave Mason and Roger Waters. The one on sasophone, maybe was part of it. This video is amazing, and this is history.
the beatles didnt have a guitarist as good as gilmore or bass player as good as waters or a keyboard player as good as rick wright and mason was a better drummer than r, star n' or they didnt have an album in the charts for nearly 14 years niether Floyd were the best
let us all go to a place together and remember the the songs and what they meant to us at that time. put away the opinions of the politics of this band and just remember innocent times and beliefs we had when we were young, thank you Pink floyd and thats everyone who was part of the floyd music,be happy my fellow lovers of music and lets just enjoy what they have given us oxoxo
Mr Waters should have been taken outside and spanked quite severely by the Carmalite Nuns until admitted his over blown ego needed sorting out, allowing the band to remain together producing this mind blowing good music.
@Sezyon erm... i think jonathanryan was in fact talking about the YouTube sound/video sync.If you look at some of the other Floyd Live8 performances on here (as well as other videos),you'll see that the sound is out of sync with the video.A bit of a problem with some YouTube uploads.
irony should have been the name of the song, seeing as they couldnt work out pink because of money. but man with roger they kick ass! without? not so much!
even back then there was friction. Waters wanted to do th 7/4 time but Dave inststed on 4/4 for the guitar part solos . glad he did. that little change there before the solos made the song . .
Waters views Floyd as Syd and his band whereas Gilmour was brought in to replace the unreplaceable Syd. Unfortunately over the years many younger fans have tended to associate Gilmour as the face of Floyd which is not what Waters wanted. A small part of why they don't get on.What an absolute pity.
I love them. But you can sense a awkwardness between gilmour and waters a bit. Even the hug at the end seems strange. Like waters feels it and gilmours is kind of not.
Apparently, apart from Syd,the rest of the band never touched any drugs according to Rick.I got the thumbs down for my last comment about Nicks drumming!
It dosen't matters because Nick after that keep playing in fact in the edition Pink floyd decide to keep that version of Pompeii, so what a hell do you know about that.
I really don't care what you think about my,matter of fact you don't have a channel only an account for spread the hate, so you child words don't hurt my at all, talk alone now,,,,
@ ancientgodofcats I do NOT spread hate on Youtube,or anywhere else,i merely made a truthful remark on Nick's drumming based on someone else's comment.I am a life long Pink Floyd fan,and i was not dissing Nick,i think he is an exellent drummer. If you are going to post offensive comments about me,expect retaliation.
@blaster2012 The fuckup in the beginning is not Nicks fault. You can hear clearly how the bass and the guitar start playing their trademark pattern at the beginning too fast. Nick has to somehow bring them back into time and was probably confused for a sec about what to do. He has to follow the taped cashiers noises so he can't deviate from his tempo. But after a few bars, he got them back together. Really nice catch. Only shows that these guys still understand each other blindly.
I think it's about what they're doing together, like oil painting, diferent layers TOGETHER, not about technique, everybody perseverent enough could obtain it, feeling is everything, "Megadeath rules?"
Pink Floyd is awesome because of the what they play not how they play it. There are super fast guitar gods who are far better on their instruments than individual Pink Floyd members. For instance compare Steve Vai with Gilmour. But the music that is produced by Steve Vai is not even close to Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd really KNOWs how to compose music incorporating human feelings and imaginations on the other hand instrument gods produce music to show how skilled they are with their instruments.
@eelakh Mostly true! Although they're pretty damn good too! But, you're right, the music, bluesy and heavy at the same time, complex and rich, full of emotion! I tell my son that there is more musical interest in the first three bars of a Pink Floyd song than in the entirety of a lot of what his generation listens too! (Although, to be fair, he DOES love the classic stuff too!) All in all, while there may be individual songs I like better, my favorite band based on body of work!
@Noahman23431 are you retarded, he said "underrated" which means he isnt given as much credit as he should be an example would be that gilmour is rated 83 on rolling stones 100 best guitarists ever list and kurt cobain is number 12 PFFFT i love kurt but he is seriouosly over rated, so he never sed he was bad u retard he said he was good get your shit straight befor posting random crap on utube
@chuckbojaxon In fact waters is a "bad" guitarist so he take the bass, it's what in said in the book of masson if I remember well.
But david is a know as a great guitarist ;) He on't have a technical playing but he's got so much feeling... He is just one of the best guitarist ever... And moreover it's an excellent musician
However ... the words 'science' 'rocket' and 'not' come to mind here!! There were other videos of the same wonderful set ... where the vocals were OUT of synch! ... While rejoicing in the content I was dismayed by the quality of the reproduction is all!
was this the opener? shouldn´t Roy Harper be doing this one? I missed this gig to I was the biggest Floyd fan between 14 and 16 then I discovered Led Zeppelin 1980 but now I discovered Pink Floyd again after 28 years of course I saw Pink Floyd In Stockholm without Roger Waters In the Eighties 89? but I wasn´t the die hard fan anymore I also saw Roger Waters live 1984? 85? Eric Clapton was playing guitar but now I got the feel for The Floyd again yo
Great player! Dark Side of the Moon is somewhere in my 'Top 5'. I just compared Comfortably Numb with Time and Time wins easily, with a much better arrangement and instrumentation. Dave's rhythm guitar, the female singers...wow.

It worries me greatly that today this seems to be lost. Any really good musician now is unemployed. All you need now days is a simple drummer! (rap)

i think david gilmour is an increadibly underrated guitarist. and i think roger waters is alot more skilled at the bass than he's given credit for.
anyways, im glad they got back together before wright died. i think they all would have been really disapointed if they hadnt.

but he's washed out these days by all the slashes and zakk wildes

and vitcor wootens
whom i love dearly, mind you
that waters bass playing gets overlooked.
