  • At 0:47, is that David Lee Roth or Judy Collins?!

  • I'd like to take Eddie Van Halen and trap him in my basement and make him play all kinds of shit. He's a great guitar player but you rarely ever hear him play outside his own universe. Wouldn't it be great if he just holed up and just ripped up everything from Jimi Hendrix to Roy Buchanan and everything in between? That would be one insane eargasm! I remember a bootleg tape years ago where he did some Chet Atkins stuff and some classical bits but never really anything from his immediate past.

  • Man, EVH had Trower's style down cold! Really great homage.

  • Wow...EVH nailed this classic but good!

  • Cool....very cool

  • F%ckin' great song!

  • Eddie imitates Robin very well here!

  • Roth's voice sucks on this!! and the lyrics aren't even close..

  • Wowie! This is one sensational recording!

From a big time Trower and Van Halen fan.

  • Interesting to hear Van Halen paying their dues doing cover material back in the day. Sounds like a small club by the crowd noise.

  • this sounds terrible, please

  • nice

    one on onejimmy

  • Awesome! ..thanks for posting!! :)

  • @GottaLoveEddie You're welcome. Let me ask if you would check my channel? My site too, which is named in my icon and at my channel. There are a lot more vids on the site than here.

  • @GottaLoveEddie Local garage band when I was growing up going to parites...saw them perform at parks...wow that guy is so cute and have never heard anyone play like that before!!! And who is the long haired drama king??? Yep, we would never have guessed they would have made it to the top...I still love em. Fond memories of this band from Arcadia :) Get it together again guys, the world is waiting!!!!

  • @luciddremz That must have been a trip to see them back then..awesome! I can hardly wait to get my hands on a copy of that new album..have been a fan for a very long time. Love Van Halen! :)

  • @GottaLoveEddie Yes and Dad was a very rich retina eye surgeon, has or had a couple of awesome houses in Pasadena and Bradbury. He managed them in the beginning. There are plaques in thanks to donations in a couple of hospitals here and a picture of David when he was a nurses aide. I had to take a double take when I saw a picture of David as a nurses aide hanging in the hall of a local hospital lol. Michael still lives locally and is seen out & about. Think Ed's in Maliu. Not sure @ the other 2

  • @luciddremz Very Cool! You just never know who you are going to end up talking to on here, do you? I love YouTube for that. I read that Dave had taken a career in healthcare, that's awesome. They are very much my favorite band (always have been), so much so in fact, I deemed them tattoo worthy ;D..have their VH logo on the back of my shoulder in EVH stripes. Love it..lol! :D..thanks for info.

  • Great vid , don't forget they were just kids .

  • greAT COVER!! BUT TROWER STILL RULES!!

  • this is why guitar world and guitar player international have edward van halen and jimi hendrix the two most influental guitarist of alltime! 34 years ago edward van halen changed reinvented and invented the whole guitar playing world! theres no one past or present that even comes close to his guitar genius and i do mean no one!!!!

  • @stratdem well said...and 100% true! Cheers..Edward Van Halen is the ultimate guitar god

  • Im glad he got rid of the les paul. That is a hard guitar to play, not very comfortable.

  • milked the phaser for all its worth........good job on the bar band stuff.......never before heard, wow....

  • @clocktime11 Check my channel out for a lot more Van Halen you will find new. Tuesday "Late Term" the song is supposed to be released by Van Halen.

  • This is sacrilegious sorry. I like VH and love trower nice try but listen to the original it's pure.. This is pretty bad. but nice to see they paid homage to the song I guess

  • This is sacrilegious sorry. I like VH and love trower nice try but listen to the original it's pure.. This is pretty bad. but nice to see they paid homage to the song I guess..

  • @potsos1 true, dave fucks up the lyrics real bad but im SURE this was an eddie thing

  • @rckmmmm Thanks! You must be the smartest man I've talked to all day today! Van Halen is just the greatest band ever on the planet. Van Halen kicks the left nut,Van Hagar kicks the right nut;BOTH ARE CRUSHING!! Van Cherone?a 10 for most bands, and I say an 8 for VH-don't understand Sam saying VH3 doesn't count as an album but I can't wait to hear the new stuff.I am sure some of the licks are going to ooze 80s VH. "Catherine" "Rise" and "Joy To The World" sounds 2.It won't be VH1 again though.

  • holy shit! 0:47, is that Diamond Dave strumming a guitar??...too bad he never learned how to play it. Maybe he shouldve taken lessons from Sammy Hagar.

  • @mireaux7 Of course he can play - check out "Ice Cream Man".

  • van halen are good where are they from? they should put an album out.

  • @nerdflanders8710 lmfao...yeah, they do need to put out a new studio album with all new material, sometime in this 21st century.

  • Eddy Sounds a little like Jimi Hendrix or Uli Jon Roth, in this song.

  • like my old old friend said a long time ago, be carefull what you say.

  • Man, I love Trower, but Eddie totally smokes on this song. Brilliant cover.

  • Never heard this and I'm a huge VH and Trower fan. Can't imagine Robin not loving this rendition!

Eddie of course nails the guitar sound, while adding his own signiture stuff, as well as Mike and Alex ,making this great, but the biggest suprise to me is DLR's vocals on this!

  • Im not too crazy about VH to begin with but they fucked this song up completely. David Lee Roth is truly a talentless dick and Eddie doesnt have the soul for this, Robin does a MUCH better lead

  • I appreciate their effort at tapping a hard funk sound, and I enjoy their interpretation. That said, Trower brings the seriousness, suffering, and gravity that VH does not have, for all of their good qualities. This is still a very good song and I can listen to both versions. Thanx for posting.

  • Eddie is a HELLA wreck now!

  • Kinda sounds like Robin Trower.

  • ...I Don't Believe This Is Van Halen!! Does Not Sound Like Any Of The Members Of Van Halen!! NOT DAVID OR SAMMY Singing...

  • Help Robin reach 25000 likes on his Facebook page!

  • It's okay. Weak vocals, Eddie just really being Eddie. It's not like Trower would do a Van Halen song. :)

  • What's the source for this recording? You don't need to turn yourself in or anything, but Curious as too when? What year? What concert?

  • Nice job on guitar, Vocals are bad

  • As amazing as Eddie is, it doesn't have that funk and boogie style that Trower has that makes this the great song it is. Eddie's style is just perfect for their own songs. If your'e going to cover a song at least make it better or just different but I'd rather listend to Trower doing Trower.

  • The title of this Trower tune is "The Fool AND Me"

  • @dustypickups

    yes your right........"fool and me"

  • Goddamn, I never knew this VH never ceases to amaze me!

  • A great Robin Trower classic.

  • Wow, this is like Eddie channeling Hendrix. Great stuff

  • @badorphan channeling ROBIN TROWER actually.

  • @lastdaysguitar Channeling Robin Trower chanelling Hendrix

  • @PutItAway101 Trower was playing in his style in pre-Procol Harum band the Paramounts... and this was PRIOR to Hendrix!

If anyone ripped off the style - it was Hendrix.

With the possible exception of Jimmy Page - Robin Trower is THE elder statesman of rock guitar.

  • @lastdaysguitar LOL what? HAHAAHAHAHAHA. Oh shit, you're serious? Dude, get real. The paramounts were a totally standard 60s pop band. They did not play one note that sounds like Jimi's 1969/70 sound with the Univibe, the downtuning and the funkier influences that Trower later copied in his solo career. Neither did Procul Harum sound anything like this. Next you'll be saying that Trower was playing Eruption...

  • @PutItAway101 You're late to the game pal - THOUSANDS SAW HIM PLAY LIKE THIS IN ENGLAND IN THE 60's, my dad was one - he jammed with him on the drums and often said back then Trower was the best... You know a lot less about rock guitar than you think you do.

  • @PutItAway101 PS: DONT confuse what a record company (i.e. Paramounts; Procol Harum) lets you release with what a musician is capable of doing. RT was killer in the live shows.

  • payin tribute to their idols (Trower)

  • I have this on a bootleg called "golden ballroom" and it rocks....great video montage too!

  • @VaiJedi yup I got the same one and its version is way better but it cuts out at about 2 mins worth. That is one of the best bootlegs ive heard

  • @Mattlangston You got it. My channel has over 25 more unreleased, rare songs by Van Halen.
