  • oliver how old are you?did you born in 1993?

  • Nice.

  • this kid kicks ass.

  • he's great! really I've just started playing this and I think that technically his is really awsome. As for 12 year old child, of course.

I agree with WhiteSH1000. He is too young to express his emotions but I also think he is on a good way to do it. :)

    Dont stop playing kid!

  • My Private cello teacher played this for my Master class with the Julliard Quartet. Man, was she amazing. This brings back the memories.

  • haha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice to see how he tunes him self and make his instrument sounds in the hall, then, concentrate and sing with his instrument

    amazing boy

    real musician

halas the pianist isn't at the same level of interpretation

  • Great!!

  • click here to skip the tuning part: 1:50

  • Mega Talent

  • He also plays the piano. What a mutifaceted talent!

  • why doesn't he tune before he comes onstage? seems like a waste of time

  • He should have cut it off the video. In reality he was 3 hours late for this concert due to transportation breakdown and ALL the audience, (full house) waited in their seat. He had to tune to the piano. All performers, even if tuned off stage, do additional tuning on stage. They may cut it off the video.

  • That's absolutely true, I've attended many concerts over the years and regularly see soloists check the tuning of their instruments - pegs can slip. Amazing playing, bravo!

  • @Aldort Personally I liked hearing the tune up, it made the performance seem more personal and the musician more human.

  • @Aldort Damn you know more repertoire than Daniel at his age :))) Nice to connect with his cousin :) Oh BTW, congratz for getting into Curtis!

  • Noob

  • he's so cute -drools- LULZ

  • ich hasse diese Wunderkinder -.-

  • meu deus, que ternura, que espectáculo que sentimento, que emoção transmite este pequeno jovem. estou sem palavras!

  • that was really quite amazing....

  • Pretty good. I think he will have a good future with cello! :)

  • uà arnold

  • maybe a little faster?

  • Wow, this kids got it all. Except for a vibrato. He'll need a good teacher to help him relax his left hand. Then he'll be world class.

  • i agree with you. he's left hand is not relaxed

  • @Sugarboxproductions you're lying!!!

  • sounds fantastic, certain passages stand out as superior, excellent intonation overall, very pleasing to hear.

  • Muy bien pequeñuelo!!!! sigue asi....que vas muy bien.

  • genius!

  • Long for tuning though. Hhehe:) I hate when my teacher tunes my violin ehh. The sound that it makes when its out of tune.

(Joke:What's the similarity between a law case and a violin: All is happy when the case is closed.)

  • It looks a small size. I suggest maybe 3/4 or full if they have one. Or if you are abit bigger.

  • Perfect!!!

  • è che un violoncello o un arpeggione

  • Violencello

  • PENDEJO SE AFINA ANTES DE TOCAR!!

  • what size cello is he playing? i want to play so bad and i might get a cello in the near future. im twelve and im 5' 2'" and i want to kno what size i should get and what brand wold be good for me. help me please.

  • it doesn't really work in brands, I'm nearly 5"1 and I play a 7/8 size, just go and try some out!

  • the way he stretched is fingersss so cute~~ ^_^ bravo boy~~

  • why doesn't this kid have a complete 5 stars. Someone gave him less. You upset cause you kids playing with gi joe's and your worried he'll grow up to be a union worker at ford? Is that what this is, you jealous cow hide. Give me your address so I can come over and beat you with my Cello.

  • thats not right!

There won't be a Ford by the time that guys son is in the job market. lol

  • I love the performing of this little boy!!!

please... add more videos, because he inspires me!

  • I love this piece. You play it so well.

  • ñoño!!!!!!!!

  • immpressive

  • Great talent!

  • that kid is a genius!

  • i love it! its my favorite piece... but a bit under tempo

  • I agree

  • that was amazing......but i really wish he'd stop tuning on stage....

  • @cellolove7 Quitcher bitchin. Tuning can be subjective according to the piano, and stringed instruments can be finicky as far as intonation, so it's better to spend a minute tuning, than to spend ten minutes playing out of tune.

  • thank u for posting this video, i love it so much.. i'm really hope that u will play this piece again... it must be another "layer" now.. i'm really looking forward, gambate!

  • I love you boyyyyyyy!!!

  • you are a genius!

you communicate so much emotions to people.

you are one of the better cellist that i have ever heard.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

  • Gorgeous...

    Wonderful...

    Amazing...

    Great...

    Perfect...

  • perfec. exelent!

  • I am... speechless :|

  • I think you really are a genius. You are abble to communicate so much emotions to people, you are an artist. Not only because you play very well, but because of the way you play : with feelings. I think you play as well as Miklos Perenyi, and I like your interpretation better than Rostropovitch's one for this Arpeggione Sonata.

  • I don´t know where you get that from. He is twelwe years old. It is not his own way of playing. It is his teacher. Yes, you play good but it is when you grow older you get your own feelings. Right now you just follow the way that your teacher tells you.

  • ?? maybe so, maybe not.

how were you as a child, and how cold are you now?

  • @WhiteSH1000

just because you think that doesnt mean you have to state it that way.

I've met him and played with him before. He is a very talented musician. Music isn't meant to be criticized like that. it is for fun. You can take your teachers advice but in the end it is YOURS to share, not your teachers. Don't say thimgs like that just to sound all smart! It's rude!

  • Wherever you are, Oliver, you are completely amazing. This almost had me in tears. (It's such a beautiful piece!) Keep up the good work!

  • wow.

You're truely amazing and for such a young age.

Wow. I wish i was that well :)

keep it the unbealiable job! :)

  • I would glady open a fan club for this darling!!

  • Great!

  • You guys need to learn how to operate the Video Camera Correctly! He is so amazing but we cannot see his facial expressions! Please! He knows how to create music with any pieces he presents...

  • Wow O.o!!!!!!

    Wonderful piece:)

    Congratulations,boy!

  • So in Tune.

  • His intonation is frighteningly accurate. Second best child prodigy cellist I've ever heard. The first best I've ever heard is literally the best cellist I've heard in my life. He played the Dvorak over the summer and I cried from halfway through the first movement through halfway through the last movement. It was an inconceivable performance that would put any cellist in the world to shame. His name is Matthew Allen and he lives in Tallahassee, Florida.

  • it's perfect!

  • wow, amazing!

  • Oliver, you play so beautiful and mature; like a fifty-year-old man. About your playing, everything is very good. But couldn't you start the video from 1.56 ? Before watching Arpeggione, we have to watch tuning approximately 2 minutes. It's a bit boring...

  • ***** Hans:-)

  • i play violoncello in music school

  • I love the cello~

  • Perfeito

  • fantástico, explêndido

  • wonderful cello playing...congratulations...shame about the useless pianist

  • fantastic !!!

  • I have seen it so many times. Wonderful young cellists with so much potential. But a very important aspect of playing the cello especially for prodigious students is stoping and examining your technique. You have to understand what you are playing and not just playing. Also I understand that Oliver was trying to be different with his interpretation but I believe that for the time being he should play it with correct stlye.

    Don't give up... U R very good.

  • amazing!" sublime!!!

  • this is really beautiful, yet i prefer Miklós Perényi's interpretation a lot better. But who am I to criticize? i can't play this and i'm 16. Hell, i still have a hard time playing my Saint-Saens Concerto...i'll be lucky if i can even play this well :P

  • Très bon violoncelliste mais aussi un très bon pianiste un virtuose notoire mais cinq étoiles sont requises mercis Olivier.!!!!

    jacques de paris

  • very gifted child indeed. but this is not how schubert is meant to be played...

  • He know that. He insisted and a couple of major teachers

have tried to change his mind and then admitted that it is simply beautiful. The kid is creative. Not just a follower.

  • @flotan he's amazing like...

  • this is amazing!

  • Splendid. A true gift of a musician.

  • Please promise me you will keep up with the good work and won´t loose it when you get older. I was a child prodigy myself. I play the cello and graduated from Juilliard, and it was during those college years that I lost myself into drugs and all of a sudden, after a period of some dark years I realised that I´ve lost my talent and the best years of my career. However, it is my mission to alert you. Focus on your gift! Keep the sweetness you have in your soul! God bless you...

  • This is just unbelievably touching! Oliver, I hope you are aware of your talent. You have a special gift that does not come often into humanity.

  • If he wants to go with the lyrical approach, he needs stronger vibrato, I think. But it's good enough to the point that he doesn't really HAVE to get the strong vibrato, but I think it would add the cherry to the sunday. Still amazing. I shouldn't be critizing, he's just a baby lol.

  • i love his musicality but i felt it was dragging.

  • It is truley amazing but I agree with fishnix. Faster and more puncuated would have tightened the mood. (I too play viola)

  • That's just a matter of interpretation and Oliver insists on this one in the face of a few teachers who suggested faster and at the end these teachers agreed that Oliver convinced them with his lyrical approach.

  • This is really beautiful and I can't believe how young he is! It's amazing. I'm 16 and studying this piece on the flute at the moment and I love it!

  • A lovely sound and great technique, but Schubert was on the cusp of the classical-romantic periods and was very specific about his markings - for my tastes I prefer a less romantic approach to create more energy...but then again I am a viola player!

  • He sounds like he was influenced by Yuri Bashmet's (viola) interpretation of this work! I prefer his interpretation over Yo Yo Ma! Well done!

  • Lol...viola jokes...I actually prefer oliver's interpretation. I really did enjoy it.

  • waou amazing How old is he pliz answer

    waou thx you beautifull

  • on this recording he is 11.

  • WOW!! beautiful!!

  • Great! Who teaches this amazing boy?

  • Right now his teacher is Amos Yang in Seattle. He was and so the teacher wanted us to find someone else. He studied over the years with Eugene Osadchy (principal of CBC orchestra and cello professor at Northen Texas university), Paula Kiffner, Laura Bluestein and some lessons with Ron Leonard, Paul Katz, Richard Aaron and Larry Lesser.

  • What a joy to hear you! It's a glimpse into a very bright future...with young musicians like you coming up. Congratulations!

  • Wow! very, very, very nice, I see ten times and need more, Congratulations go ahead.

  • How old is he? Amazing...

  • Absolutely amazing. <3

  • lol, he tuynes for a very long time in all his videos, but hes an amazing cellist. His saint saens was good too

  • wow! Very beautiful. Hes very gifted. Keep it up:)
