  • The lyrics in the second verse of Black Bottom is Old fellows with lumbago...

  • sorry to cofuse everyone....i meant you can see a resemblance between them.....sorry for spelling

  • There has never been a more entertaining and top notch talent than The Born In A Trunk scene. This will never be topped. Judy should have won the oscar .Grace Kelly my ASS.

  • can you post the shampoo commercial scene from a star is born?

  • 6:35 <3 <3 <3. Anyone else try to hit that last note?

  • This performance blew me away. A posthumous Oscar for Judy! This sequence in the film is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.

  • @Psergiorivera That's what I say. The Academy says they don't give posthumous Oscars, but they should. For a while, I tried starting an online petition for it, but it's hard to get signatures.

  • I lover her dress!!!!!

  • Judy's Melancholy Baby dress is I think one of the most beautiful costumes she ever wore in a film; she looks absolutely stunning in it. :]

  • only once will idaho be sung with such reverence. i love this scene so much!

  • xxx

  • did anyone else see Liza from 0:34 to 0:43...Liza looks just like her mother sounds like her too

  • @Phil7460 where is she ? i dont see her

  • @Phil7460 Liza isn't in this?

  • That last part always gives me goosebumps, it's such an amazing performance. The Oscars really did f*** up that year, Grace Kelly was not worthy compared to the great Judy Garland.

  • Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand stand at the top untouched by anyone else in my opinion

  • who got chills?

  • her weight changed a lot

  • Judy WAS pregnant with Liza, while singing WHO? in "Till the Clouds Roll Bye".in that yellow dress with THE feathers..BOY she looked fabulous!

  • @stoneysextrastoutpig liza was born in 46' this was in 54'

  • @devyncoles But Joey was born in 55, so she could have been pregnant at the time.

  • dear judy xxxxxx

the true one and only judy

  • I have always said this was a Judy tour de force...she was robbed of an Oscar.

  • :07 Looks like a young Bea Arthur.

  • Not a Star. Fred and Jane?

    Fuck You.

  • What A Star

  • Nobody had a voice like Judy and nobody ever will.

  • does anyone know if she was pregnant while shooting the Swanee song? Or was she just a little chubby? After all, wasn't this around the time where she became pregnant with Joe?

  • @ninskimig123 Yes I believe Judy was pregnant during the entire Born in a Trunk sequence. However, I don't think it was her pregnancy that made her look chubby, I believe it was the costume choice. The peanut vendor scenes, Judy looks great. During Swanee, she almost looks androgynous. This could be because I believe Swanee was intended as a homage to Al Jolson, who wore similar outfits. She looks preggers in the When My Sugar Walks Down the Street scene, which was cut I believe for that reason

  • Her voice was so incredibly powerful during this period; she was still great when she sang on her tv show and, of course, an amazing talent during her MGM years but this was Judy at her best. Also, you see her sense of humour during the Black Bottom number; people think of her as a tragic figure but they say she was one of the wittiest and funniest people who ever lived.

  • that last "IIIIIDAAAAAHOOOOO!" blew me away <3

  • Groucho Marx, a Hollywood friend to Judy, sent her a telegram after she lost the Oscar stating "This is the greatest robbery since Brinks!" And it WAS.

  • This was filmed in july at the last minute because they needed a musical story to explain her rise to fame. She was noticeably heavier in the face at the end of the sequence because the rest of the film was finished and she just got pregnant with Joey. They said she was 3 - 4 months along, when the famous sept 1954 Pantages Theatre premiere happened.

  • We will never see her like again. :(

  • Lovely lady!

  • anybody know if they've ever done this song on glee (trunk)? i loved the happy days/get happy duet from last week and it got me thinking of this one. not that anybody else could do this justice but it's be cute.

  • supposedly Humphrey Bogart was one of drunks that shouted "Sing Melancholy Baby!", but none of the voices sound anything like him.

  • @Aidooosh Judy looked stunning in the "Meloncholy Baby" number. I am surprised she never kept that gown. It was a great color & very classy looking.

  • @NFitalianGuy I loved Judy in the "Melancholy" number. It was an increasingly rare thing to see her quiet and intimate. (In the latter half of her singing career, she seemed full-out spectacular all the time.) Love the shades of gray and lavender here, and she looks great with the shorter hair, especially beautiful at 3:41 when she returns to the piano. It was all about those those dark, piercing eyes. Just gorgeous

  • Liza? =P

  • She defines everything that’s good in show business.

  • Owow..shes so amazing..

  • @danzelled1 Judy's voice was at its best when she was heavier. the mid 50's up until 1962 it was very strong, smoother, richer, more pure during these yrs. She was great when she lost all her weight but I think something the extra lbs. improves singing.

  • gorgeous@ 3:18 what a pose.

  • thank you SO MUCH for sharing this - it's been a long while since I saw this movie and this was always my favorite song/sequence

  • liza looks so like her!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • Nobody or nothing can give us tears and goosebumps - even now - like Judy can!

  • in the second show when they're in orange, judy looks so much like liza it's not even funny.

  • I wish she could have had more opportunities to be herself like this, I love her MGM movies like crazy don't get me wrong, but i totally go insane to see her in this one, and A child Is Waiting and Judgement At Nuremburg and I Could Go On Singing. I Absolutely LOVE this movie!!! =)

  • Judy looked the best ever here in the Melancholy # & in the last scene. The 2 gowns were incredible. if Warner's didnt buckle to the theater owners compaints the movie was 2 long & that it limited the times it could be shown daily/ The original cut that was premiered in Hollywood sept 1954. The hype was out of this world & when they cut it for the final time the fans didnt see the real masterpiece. I hope they find the missing clips & air it the way it was originally supposed to air.

  • What a tragic figure but as screwed up as she was talent wise she had no equal.

  • Still hard to believe that Judy lost the Oscar that year to Grace Kelly in The Country Girl (a good performance)--but does not compare to the genius of this performance by Judy

  • @davedave9103 AMEN ...THE biggest Oscar Blunder EVER !!! That was JUDY'S Award , all the way ...xo

  • @davedave9103 me too! absurd!

  • @davedave9103 How I WISH I could vote up your comment a million times.

  • judy leaves me in awe

    each and every time

  • dear judy

the one and only in tears now x

rip judy we will never see you like again

  • What an ending finale =))) I remember when I first heard it. I was just in shock. I'm still blown away by those last few notes.

  • This is spectacular. Judy is amazing. I love her soooo much.

This is the best part in the movie :D.

  • Fun!!
