  • haha! how DO you say "she is a slut?"

  • why people doesnt like your lessons you are great dude:D

  • why did you change channel?

  • Thx) You are funny and the video is helpfull )

  • isn't watashi wa a girl speaking?

ive looked up some Japanese language. i just get confused a little. my girlfriends from the Philippines and speak Tagalog, English, and a little Japanese

  • Hello from チェコ- スロバキア =)

  • soo tru bout the kung fu movies

  • why do you add 'wa' to the end of some words?

  • stressor. mostly women do it. but it is also common in Nagoya with some men.

  • oh, ok. thanks.

  • i wouldnt say its like lower case upper case. i would say its more like print and cursive, but i know what your saying

  • In Chinese many characters have multiple pronunciations

  • What does desu even mean?

  • I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a specific meaning. It's just used to confirm or complete a sentence. And adding ka at the the end of desu(Desuka) makes it a question. Check out gimmeaflakemanvids, there's a chance that he migt have answered your question or somthing similar.

  • わし :3

  • lololol

the hell "like upper and lower case"

the only simularity is that they both look different from each other..

    and your forgetting about watakushi

  • What looks different? More lessons on gimmeaflakeman. Watakushi has been taken care of.

  • the english alphabets uppercase and lower case / hiragana and katakana

you compared them. im saying there nothing like each other

and the only simularity is that there both different looking

you say watashi at 4.46 then move to atashi

  • wat difference between suggoi and suggei?

erm.. how do ii say "and" iin jap.

    example:

    today was/is interesting "and" fun?

    ii know today is kyo

    interesting is omoshiro

    fun iis tanoshi

but ii dunn know how to make it into a proper sentence in japanese?

  • In a simple sentence with two adjectives, you add KUTE to the first one.

Kyou wa tanushikute omosirogatta Today was fun and interesting.

    Or

Kyou wa tanushikutte omoshiori (desu ne) Today is fun and interesting (isnt it?)

There is no convenient word for AND as its used in English.

There is also TOH, which is used to link nouns or phrase sequences.

SONNO UE (on top of that) is used add additional important information to something just said.

  • the e added there is more informal, and typically male speak i think

its used in alot of adjectives

    like omoshirei (interesting)

  • It took me about 1 year to be able to walk around and make basic conversation. About 5-6 years till I could talk about most anything.

  • Do you only skip the U in "desu", or do you skip it in other words as well? For example, do you say "IkimasU", or "Ikimas"?

  • Yes, in many MASU ending words the U is basically silent.

  • ohhhh so that's what "ore" means. :o thanks

  • Some girls use "Boku" too. (Yeah, I just wrote that because of watching anime.) Am I right? :P

  • Girls don't usually use BOKU.

  • Anime isn't the best place to learn japanese. All I've learned are a few words here and there.

  • I see. I recently bought a Japanese book. and I've been watching Gimmeabreakman's videos. I could learn this in just a month plus 2.

  • haha love thid vid funny n educational at the same time.

  • The general ignorance of people who just assume everything Asian is either Chinese or Japanese, for instance Japanese Kung-Fu, yeah it's stupid. What you said is very wrong though there are plenty of Japanese people in Kung-Fu movies and plenty of Korean's, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, etc. I could go name a list but that would be boring, I will name one from the top of my head though, one of the most famous in epic Chinese martial arts movies is Takeshi Kaneshiro. He has a very genuine Chinese accent

  • He is truly bilingual because he IS Chinese -- well half at least. He was born and raised in Taipei. But he is a Japanese citizen... that just might explain his Chinese accent....LOL!

  • Ahh it makes sense. What you said about Japanese people thinking their language is the hardest, I definately disagree with them, sure the writing is hard but not terribly hard, just Kanji takes a LONG time to learn. Japanese people tend to struggle very much at foreign languages because of their lack of vowel accents, it makes sense Takeshi grew up in Taipei

From a young age I've watched Asian films, Thai, Korean, Chinese, etc so I do go a bit anal over people getting them mixed up too.

  • Yeah, me too. I get some moronic emails asking me what part of China I live in. And asking me to teach them Chinese.

  • Haha tell me about it, my friends never seem to learn the difference regardless of the 100's of martial arts and horror films they've sat through with me. The only language they can point out is Thai because Thai people look much more central Asian and the language to people at first usually sticks out and sounds terrible, I quite like Thai language though I guess it grows on you.

The whole "boku" thing. Guys don't really use it either, mainly young boys right? Men would use it very rarely?

  • @DirEnGay sou desu yo

  • I loved the whole kung-fu movie thing ! Funny!

  • I found An Introduction to Modern Japanese in an empty apartment(my mom shows apartments for her job), I lucked out huh

  • Czechoslovakian? There's no such language. There is Czech and Slovak and they are both similar. Those 2 together with Polish are one of the most difficult.

  • Good point.

  • haha I have that Superman Poster on my wall too!

    xD

oh yeah and Where do you live in Japan???

I live in Yokosuka, about 3 hrs from Tokyo.

(I highly doubt you didn't know that. xD)

    anyway. yeah....

    you're teaching really well!

    Arigatou gozaimasu!

  • I know of it, but never been.

  • So you still live on Honshu?

    or on Hokkaido or something?

  • Nagoya.

  • ahh Nagoya,

    so still on Honshu,

I THINK I've been there before...I'm not sure.

I know I've been relatively south before though.

  • このビデオはすげえええ!

  • Me no likey wanna-be japanese

    lol :p

  • i love the language japanese,

i hope i can speak it fast

    i already leared english

and well im hispanic so i know spanish

  • How do you say "whats up?" in Japanese? versus saying hello? I'm sure Konnichiwa is played out. Arigatou gozaimasu! (learned that from you). ps please send me a message if you answer this question.

  • I wanted to ask a question, on previous video's the work THIS is Jap was (kore) and in here you call it kuno?

  • I meant to say the word (THIS) you said it was (Kore) but here you also call it Kuno

  • KUNO? No... KONO!

  • kore = this

Kore ha watashi no hon desu. = This is my book.

    kono = possessive thing

Kono hon ha watashi no desu. = This book is mine.

  • Ah ok, two different ways of saying THIS. thanks a lot!

  • No. They are a little different. Read the above again.

  • (There's an indirect Kono THIS) Direct (Kore THIS)

    That is the different right?

  • so the u is like a silent e

  • kono bideo wa sugoi. Or is it bedio, bedeo.. bidio... -.- Annnnnnywhos.. Thanks, I'm off to watch the other videos.

  • I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there are actually a LOT of Hanzi with more than one sound to them. 行, for example, is pronounced either hang2 or xing2 depending on how you use it in a sentence.

  • kudaranai =D

  • how would you pronounce the name Daniel in Japanese?

  • Da-ni-e-ru

  • dude your hilarious!! thanks for the great video! im trying to teach myself Japanese and im finding it a little hard but regardless im pushing forward and teaching myself as much as I can. I am looking for the book that you recommended during the first couple of minutes of the video but can't seem to find it :(

  • How do you say: Come eat dinner, clean your room, time to come inside?

Thank you, I love your videos!

  • Wo, ya! I'm part check! I didn't know there was a language for it... I'll need to read about that.

  • Great vid....thanks:)

  • wow... u teach well... i learned a lot from you victor-san... domo arigato gozaimashita! ganbatte!!!

  • You talk to fast! slow down lol

  • hi there, vidios are cool but could you show us how to write these phrases xoxo

  • Thanks! This is a very good series of Japanese learning video!

  • say "I'm a chunky monkey from funky town"

  • Hey, that video is cool.

Can you also write in Japanese?

If yes, how long did it take you to learn it?

  • please be my teacher.

Anyway, I though "sugoi" [sorry for spelling] meant "hot" in japanese.

    I can't remember where I heard that.

    Brilliant video anyway!

  • 22 or 23

  • SUGAYYY

  • I would prefer a Japanese.

  • By the way how many time you take to learn japanese?

  • The journey never ends. Took me about 6 years to get to the point where I could say comfortable, "I speak Japanese."

  • Tens sorte por cresceres a falar espanhol porque a pronuncia japonesa e igual á espanhola..entao e sabes falar portugues? achas que é uma lingua dificil ou facil?

    you're great**

  • cool, I also grow up learning spanish and now im learning japanese.

  • Ah, this video is awesome. =)

I have a Japanese book to learn the basics, but I like watching videos like this too.

  • Only. I grew up speaking Spanish, so it does not really count. Japanese was a bitch to learn! But I am so glad I did.

  • PAIN IN THE ASS! :D

  • You talking to me? :)

  • I assume that you remember, but, in order to cover my bases, I will tell you that I was humorously repeating you from the "meiwaku" line.

  • I don't think that youtubers give you enough credit for your intelligence. I think it would have been great to have a teacher like you when i was in school. Cheers!

  • @therabbitslayer sou desu yo

  • helpful video, I can already read hiragana and katakana, but I am having trouble finding a good way to learn Kanji. If you read this comment please get back to me. thanks

  • i'm learning japanese right now. i've just started at the beginning of june.

so if i were to say

"i didn't sleep last night." it would be,

kinou no ban, watashi wa yasumi masen deshita.

    is the grammar awkward?

  • I agree! She/He is an angel... picked up for me .. I WAS getting to you!

  • thx a lot... and yes i am damn serious about learning japanese

  • HAHA! Good one! 上手だった!

  • おげんきですかVictorさん。このビデオはすごい!!!すばらし!Keep em comin!

  • do the native japanese use the "change the v to a b sound" that much? I know we do in spanish, thats why I figured you may be exaggerating it a little bit. pretty interesting video though. your spanish now has a japanese accent, haha.

  • good example for bad teaching.

  • Actually, I would agree with you. I need to focus on LESS .. just spit these out as answers to questions. They are not PROPER lessons. But thanks for watching anyway.

  • nice. very helpful. could you add more captions so i know how they are spelled? i learned phonetics from a friend in j-high, and im also a visual learner ^_^ thanks!

  • you're always so energetic! Thats why i think people can pay attention to you for the entire 10 minutes! I think I'll dub you すごい先生!!! LOL! It's always fun to watch you talk!

  • Your video is VERY good -- Video-wa SUGOI DES (today I'm having my 1st Japanese lesson, so is this right?? No idea . . .)

I also loved your "Basic Japanese Lesson 1".

I teach German, so I know the challenges of teaching a foreign language to Americans. You are FUN to watch! [very handsome, too . . ;-)]

  • Shitsumon ga arimasu. Renetto is a dramatic self-centered creep wa nihongo de nan desu ka? :)

  • Awesome! I'm thinking of taking Japanese in the Fall!

  • to quote Nike, "Just do it!" hahaha^_^

  • Great video Victor.

    Dave R.

  • Thanks, Dave.

  • リサーノバ

  • Great vids, I'm saving them, so I can go back to review. I've always sortof dreamed about living in Japan. Maybe you could talk to us about practical living in Japan, the sort of issues you deal with, the good points and not so good points... Something for us dreamers.

  • Czech? I've heard Hungarian as well.

  • Say so and so is bald..hmm

    Can you say;

Renetto is a bald piece of shit? thanks.

  • You morons brought that "fisrt" shit over from ainitcool...ugh. My boss Administrated a network for a japanese company and spent two years over there and married a japanese girl. I talked to him about this but the main reason I wanted to learn is that none of the really good RPGs make it to the US for console game systems. Yes I want to learn so I can play games.

  • This is so fuckin' fascinating.

  • AWESOME!

  • wakata (is that right? i understand or something like that) i am learning japanese by watchin tons of anime... i want to start learning it for real.. but you know i dont have that much time... thx for the lesson :) segoi!

  • "Wakata" or more politely "wakarimashita."

And SUGOI or more casually SUGE!

  • I thought it was really awesome that you were able to tell the viewers the difference between kanji used in Japan and kanji used in China. So many people tend to forget to do that or they just don't know. Thank you!

  • Actually, I've seen some Kung Fu movies with Japanese characters. They give them ridiculous accents.

  • Too confusing for me!

  • you were really close with the "desu" discussion. comfortable also has a letter that we take for granted at the end, but do not pronounce.

  • Can you do a vid on your knowlege of the particles wa and ga? I can't even get Japanese to explain some instances to me!

  • FIRST. Why I should care that Im first is beyond me.
