  • how come my ship keeps going all twisty turney and doesnt take of in a straight line

  • Why does no one time warp on The Kerbal ground and just simply wait for The Mun to come into their path? Saves you having to do anything in space until you get to The Mun.

  • @DanSids1988 You can probably do this. It would take more fuel, and would be harder to hit. When this video was made you couldn't do that. If you tried a direct route to the mun like that you would have no margin for error. If you missed you would either come straight back or escape never to return.

  • @trydyingtolive I wait on the ground for Mun to come across my path, blast off and keep going until my trajectory line hits the distance of Mun, then I time warp until the trajectory line is altered by the gravitational pull of Mun, then I simply use my thrusters so the trajectory line sets up perfectly with Mun, then I work on landing by using my thrusters to slow my ship down and make the yellow marker line up with the centre white dot. Was this made before the time warp update?

  • :D You videos are Really getting Popular!

  • im sorry but i cracked up when you said i panic and hit the space bar

  • @TheSonicfan44 It's awful. I do it too often. I push the space bar and screw up the whole mission. Kills me.

  • You sir, deserve a medall!

  • @Galardomond I've got a couple more designs that are better. And will get you back, check them out.

  • @trydyingtolive already checked them out, cool. Err i've got a "demo" version is there any offical version yet, or do i have to get mods, in order to have more parts etc. ?

  • @Galardomond The demo version right now is the main version. When .14 comes out you will need to pay for .14 but .13.2 will be free. You can add different rocket parts by downloading them, but new gameplay will require the full version.

  • i left the orbit and now im stuck outside the mun and kerban... just waiting now

  • Now try and get back.

  • Kollo 11 Hit the mun! I One Small Step Kearth One Giant Leap For Kerb-Kind

  • How do you determine which direction in which to do a retro burn? I keep getting within Mun's sphere of influence but I can't seem to slow down enough to get into orbit.

  • @RaceYouToTheGrave Look at your nav ball. There is a green marker with an X in it. Point your ship toward that marker and fire your rockets. You are now doing a retro burn. Don't stop there --be sure to use your new term in everyday conversations. "I walked into the wrong bathroom and immediately did a retro burn." Also check out some of my other videos for more help.

  • at 15:49 did i just see a halo ring?

  • what a nice slideshow.

  • @enylive What an original observation.

  • With stock parts, i think fins would do the job... now do they fit?...

  • I glance at the rocket, then hit the back button on my browser. THERE'S NO WAY I COULD MAKE THAT

  • its called " Mun"

  • @zoomer865 Actually, it's called "Mün". The pronunciation is moon. "Moon" is also considered an acceptable spelling for the Mün since it is a moon.

  • @trydyingtolive the pronunciation isn't "moon," it's different

  • you just mass solid rockets

  • 66 likes and 6 dislikes? That must be what cursed your kerbals to get stranded on the moon. Nice job though on that rocket :D

  • power point my favourite

  • @mylaptopdiednooo This video was made very quickly. It came out less than 24 hours from the time the mun was made available in experimental. Later I made a nicer version.

  • What happened to Moon Shot 1?

  • @SenorMikeCheck We don't talk about moon shot 1.

  • "but ive never actually put kerbals safely on the mun" now you tell us, WERE ALL GONNA DIE! was the exact thought that went through my mind when that popped up lol

  • "Yay we made it! Now how do we get back?"

    "FFFFFUUUUUUU"

  • @flamed112 I actually have newer tutorial that will help you get back.

  • Ummm.... Kerbal, we have a problem.

  • and then they starved up there

    THE END

  • @peepsbates Nah. They ran out of air first.

  • the only thing hard in this game is manual control, as you have to utilize advanced roll maneuvers in conjunction with pitch and yaw ranges. so in lamnest terms; driving stick is easier.

  • @xboxlover749 Oh man. I love driving stick shift. To be sure, starting on an incline is harder than controlling a rocket... but not by much

  • @trydyingtolive yeah, you need alot of that hand eye coordination.

  • now, how do we get back to kerbal!!??

  • @plavins1 I have another video where I show how to return. You should check it out.

  • wow, you have a really good computer, could i ask a favor of you? my computer really sucks and i can barely launch this massive ship i made, i was wondering, could you launch it for me and put it up here?

  • Looks like I'm going to need new batteries for my mouse. How long did this take?

  • @ThePhantom710 It wasn't too hard. I had a basic idea of what to do. It just needed a couple of runs. This video was published about 24 hours after the mun was added to the program.

  • @gordkb11 He spelt moon right, it's called the Mun on the Kerbals' planet.

  • @gordkb11 Thanks. The moons name is Mun. Additionally, the word is spelled. Spelt is a species of wheat.

  • @trydyingtolive Damnit. I just realised. Sorry man :|

  • lol I threw my kermbins out of the star system, They are all smiling not realizing they are in and endless trajectory in space. Muwahaha

  • I love how their faces look so grim as they realize that they're effectively dead.

  • cant u use rcs to return back to kerbin much more control with rcs when landing and you had to much sideways momentum and that is why it fell at the end and it was to hard to stop it with an engine.

  • Return? close enough!

  • I tried to copy your rocket, but as soon as i fire it up, it begins to lean and eventually topples over :\

  • RIP

  • Never forget.

  • @trydyingtolive you could make lander legs out of radical decoplers stacked on each other

  • @Dman1reallyrocks I'm looking into a lot of solutions for landing gear. Both in mods and in stock parts. I like the decoupler legs, however; they do weigh the ship down quite a bit and are pretty useless for anything other than the landing.

  • @trydyingtolive Fins make good landing gear.

  • you're using the sagan I

  • @mindystorm What's a Sagan 1?

  • @trydyingtolive its a ship for download ....

maybye it was a coincidence, your ship looked like it

  • @mindystorm Ah. This one was built by me. There isn't too much variation with stock rockets, so they will start to look similar.

  • could you make a video of how to do it and get back when you can? also i think there shold be a part made for landing if there already is not one

  • R.I.P.

  • Just a fair note that although a by-eye moonshot might be easier when orbiting westward, east is more efficient. Now that Kerbin rotates, you get 180m/s of free deltaV towards an eastward Kerbin orbit (and a 180m/s deltaV *deficit* towards a westward orbit). Shaving 360m/s off of your deltaV budget is probably significant enough to let you get to the Mun with a smaller rocket.

  • @hobbified I never thought of it that way. I'll have to look into that. I'm working on an improved tutorial. I have a better method for timing the moonshot. I try to aim my tutorials toward beginners and less advanced players. I'm also looking for an easy way for beginners to land on the mun with stock parts. In reality, this video was trying to a quick tutorial out. Later on I want to have a high quality tutorial with a fool proof as possible method for moon landing and return.

  • What happened to the Moon Shot 1? ;)

  • @MadeinHell2 We don't talk about Original Moon Shot. Actually, it was a good design. I have a third version now that is lighter and gets there faster. Also has the added bonus that it leans toward 270 deg.

  • @trydyingtolive I just managed to get there using your ship and actually come back. only thing that I did is changing stage 2 (where you have just the engine, fuel tank and a decoupler) into (in order) advanced sas, tricoupler 3 fuel tanks the new engines gimbaling engines.

I managed to land there and come back :). That was damn exciting!

  • @MadeinHell2 Awesome, good job.

  • can you upload the .craft file?

  • @star4599 I generally don't share rocket designs. Mostly because I don't save them for very long. I make new rockets continually. Also I don't want people to be using my rockets when they could be building their own, and probably making them better than the version in the video. The rocket in this video is already obsolete compared to a new design, and that newer rocket will soon be replaced by better and better ones.

  • @star4599 I've posted a .craft file on my blog that can reach the Mun and back. kerbal at blogspot

  • Now orbit the sun.

  • @keyofdoornarutorscat Actually you start out orbiting the sun. Just get an escape velocity and you will be orbiting the Sun.

  • @trydyingtolive Then add more boosters and try again.

  • "Fate has ordained that the men who went to the mun to explore in peace will stay on the mun to rest in peace. These brave men, Jeb, George & Bill, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for kerbkind in their sacrifice."

  • Needs more RCS.

  • The ship I used for my trip to the Mun is suspiciously similar to the design you've used here. Evidently it's a design that works!

  • dude, you need to dl some mod parts (i know its not your thing, but still) and try to return home

  • @SuperMetallicaBros I have some lander feet. I brought them all the way to the mun. They threw the ship into a bad spin. I added a new crater.

  • @trydyingtolive I managed a stock-part round-trip trip using pretty much the rocket here, and added some radial couplers to the lander.

  • @Alehkhs I've considered that. I will probably try it. How many did you use?

  • @trydyingtolive Four legs, made of four radial couplers each (make sure they are lower than the engine nozzle, obviously). These can be reinforced with struts, if you find them too weak.

I really look forward to a round-trip video from you, using only stock-parts. Good luck!

  • Now, how do we land on Poosh?

  • @keyofdoornarutorscat What is Poosh?

  • @trydyingtolive The website is down but there is a map of all the planets in the kerbal solar system.

But depending on your skill, you should be able to land on....

Shit, I forgot the name of the planet but still.

It would be fun to see the launch.

  • @trydyingtolive poosh is a moon in a gas planet (obviusly not out yet) you can check out my 3D solar system is in the forums...

  • Now do a geostationary satellite :D

  • @MrAliots I did just notice that Kerbin now spins. That will probably be my next video.

  • OMFG.....downloading the experimental build now. Thanks for vid, it shall help a lot.

  • yay! i knew you will make this soon as it come out :3

  • @AdicoGames Thanks, I'm working on the annotations right now.

  • You know, advanced SAS doesn't do much if you don't have any control surfaces.

  • @Misterspork57 Not true. Control surfaces help, but the Advanced SAS still guides the ship. If you notice that the controls in the bottom left are constantly being adjusted, that's the ASAS working.

  • @trydyingtolive I'm not entirely sure that the ASAS can use the pod's magical torque. I'm pretty sure that it can only use RCS, winglets and gimbals. Also, the tricoupler is not symmetrical, which might be the cause of your tumbling on Lunar orbit insertion.

I'd say your rocket is similar to mine, but there are some differences too. Mine has enough fuel left after landing (using mod legs) to return to Kerbin, because much of the breaking in the landing phase is done by the TLI stage.

  • @Misterspork57 Sure it does. It controls control surfaces, and RCS thrusters, and it has a set of gyros just like a regular SAS only bigger. It's the whole enchilada.
