Why does no one time warp on The Kerbal ground and just simply wait for The Mun to come into their path? Saves you having to do anything in space until you get to The Mun.
@DanSids1988 You can probably do this. It would take more fuel, and would be harder to hit. When this video was made you couldn't do that. If you tried a direct route to the mun like that you would have no margin for error. If you missed you would either come straight back or escape never to return.
@trydyingtolive I wait on the ground for Mun to come across my path, blast off and keep going until my trajectory line hits the distance of Mun, then I time warp until the trajectory line is altered by the gravitational pull of Mun, then I simply use my thrusters so the trajectory line sets up perfectly with Mun, then I work on landing by using my thrusters to slow my ship down and make the yellow marker line up with the centre white dot. Was this made before the time warp update?
@trydyingtolive already checked them out, cool. Err i've got a "demo" version is there any offical version yet, or do i have to get mods, in order to have more parts etc. ?
@Galardomond The demo version right now is the main version. When .14 comes out you will need to pay for .14 but .13.2 will be free. You can add different rocket parts by downloading them, but new gameplay will require the full version.
How do you determine which direction in which to do a retro burn? I keep getting within Mun's sphere of influence but I can't seem to slow down enough to get into orbit.
@RaceYouToTheGrave Look at your nav ball. There is a green marker with an X in it. Point your ship toward that marker and fire your rockets. You are now doing a retro burn. Don't stop there --be sure to use your new term in everyday conversations. "I walked into the wrong bathroom and immediately did a retro burn." Also check out some of my other videos for more help.
@mylaptopdiednooo This video was made very quickly. It came out less than 24 hours from the time the mun was made available in experimental. Later I made a nicer version.
"but ive never actually put kerbals safely on the mun" now you tell us, WERE ALL GONNA DIE! was the exact thought that went through my mind when that popped up lol
the only thing hard in this game is manual control, as you have to utilize advanced roll maneuvers in conjunction with pitch and yaw ranges. so in lamnest terms; driving stick is easier.
wow, you have a really good computer, could i ask a favor of you? my computer really sucks and i can barely launch this massive ship i made, i was wondering, could you launch it for me and put it up here?
Please check out my channel. I do mod videos, updates and possibly some tutorials in the future. If you like trydyingtolive's channel then u will love mine. @ThePhantom710 It wasn't too hard. I had a basic idea of what to do. It just needed a couple of runs. This video was published about 24 hours after the mun was added to the program.
cant u use rcs to return back to kerbin much more control with rcs when landing and you had to much sideways momentum and that is why it fell at the end and it was to hard to stop it with an engine.
@Dman1reallyrocks I'm looking into a lot of solutions for landing gear. Both in mods and in stock parts. I like the decoupler legs, however; they do weigh the ship down quite a bit and are pretty useless for anything other than the landing.
Just a fair note that although a by-eye moonshot might be easier when orbiting westward, east is more efficient. Now that Kerbin rotates, you get 180m/s of free deltaV towards an eastward Kerbin orbit (and a 180m/s deltaV *deficit* towards a westward orbit). Shaving 360m/s off of your deltaV budget is probably significant enough to let you get to the Mun with a smaller rocket.
@hobbified I never thought of it that way. I'll have to look into that. I'm working on an improved tutorial. I have a better method for timing the moonshot. I try to aim my tutorials toward beginners and less advanced players. I'm also looking for an easy way for beginners to land on the mun with stock parts. In reality, this video was trying to a quick tutorial out. Later on I want to have a high quality tutorial with a fool proof as possible method for moon landing and return.
@MadeinHell2 We don't talk about Original Moon Shot. Actually, it was a good design. I have a third version now that is lighter and gets there faster. Also has the added bonus that it leans toward 270 deg.
@trydyingtolive I just managed to get there using your ship and actually come back. only thing that I did is changing stage 2 (where you have just the engine, fuel tank and a decoupler) into (in order) advanced sas, tricoupler 3 fuel tanks the new engines gimbaling engines.
I managed to land there and come back :). That was damn exciting!
@star4599 I generally don't share rocket designs. Mostly because I don't save them for very long. I make new rockets continually. Also I don't want people to be using my rockets when they could be building their own, and probably making them better than the version in the video. The rocket in this video is already obsolete compared to a new design, and that newer rocket will soon be replaced by better and better ones.
"Fate has ordained that the men who went to the mun to explore in peace will stay on the mun to rest in peace. These brave men, Jeb, George & Bill, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for kerbkind in their sacrifice."
@trydyingtolive Four legs, made of four radial couplers each (make sure they are lower than the engine nozzle, obviously). These can be reinforced with struts, if you find them too weak.
I really look forward to a round-trip video from you, using only stock-parts. Good luck!
