Guys; as her YouTube long time Fans we should get together and ask politely for new performances! 7 months without new takes is way too long... Cmon, we must show her our support... We want her back, don't we?
This girl has already learned "the Black Page" at 12. There are two good reasons why she might be focusing on showmanship a bit now. She probably wants a career in music. Why settle for "struggling unknown?" And she's 13, so she enjoys being a little rock star, wouldn't you if you were 13? As long as she progress's musically also, she's an artist. Sara, I hope you keeps getting better and become a famous jazz/prog/rock drummer one day!
Yea, well; Kozo Suganuma may be a good drum teacher, and many people can play real fast! That does not create any "music". Music without feeling is like chocolate without sugar. Sara has the natural ability to insert feelings, while playing rythms on the drums. In fact, Sara is "acting" the pieces; like dancing the beats and the rythms with her drums, as if her entire spirit was incarnating the piece... Emotions and Feelings are eadiating! THAT creates Real Music! We just can't get enough!
No it isn't.. why the fuck would it be doing that? She is a performer... would you rather have a plain look on her face and acting like a robot? Me thinks you're jealous and trying to take away what makes her fucking cool as hell. I can't wait to hear and see her performances 5 years from now.
There are pool players who do amazing trick shots. Stuff that's impossible to believe. But on a rack of 8-ball, I'll clean their clocks every time. Sara's a great talent, but I think form trumps flash. It's a balancing act. Should she spend more time juggling glow in the dark tambourines or studying Zappa charts? For example, Lars Ulrich--hack drummer with enormous ego and showboating tendencies. Wildly successful. Artist? Nope. I think you can see where I'm going with this. Jealous isn't in me.
Music doesn't feed people, it doesn't cure people, it doesn't provide a mode of transport. It simply *entertains* people. Who gives a cr*p what a small cadre of "artists" think of stick work? What matters is whether the audience is entertained.
Do I assign a lot of weight to the stick work? no, but it adds (not subtracts) from the work.
If Sara has compromised her playing for the flash, then that is even more impressive, because the playing is superb.
You are mistaken. Music is NOT purely entertainment. It is a form of high-art and dedication, and virtuosity. Simply entertains people? you are mistaking true music for so called pop music that simply turns up synthesizers and heavy beats. I just had to leave this comment to enlighten your ignorance and arrogant behaviour
Im sure you are a musician yourself. and you shouldnt be saying such stuff. Haven't you heard music therapy? The effect of Mozart, Bach to human brain? The reason people nowadays dont listen to jazz, classical music , etc is because all people want is "VISUAL" and "ENTERTAINMENT". In that sense, ART is purely entertainment. SCIENCE is purely a form of entertainment; Bill Nye? Again, Music IS NOT PURELY ENTERTAINMENT.
Farming, Civil Engineering, Medicine are utilitarian fields. All art forms (music, film, theater, visual arts) are entertainment. They serve no utilitarian purpose (they don't nourish, heal or provide the necessities of life).
That doesn't mean the arts aren't of value (they are, of course, of immense value), but they are valuable exactly because they entertain, not in spite of the fact that they entertain.
Ok, I understand your point, I seem to have overreacted because what you were saying seemed to infer that Art requires no mastery. You were simply stating the obvious that Art serve no utilitarian purpose. I mean, you can argue that Art is an expression of human emotions, and it sometimes brings joy and sadness to the viewer/listener.
Exactly, I was reacting to those who were suggesting that Sara was wasting her time learning to do flashy stick work (which I agree has no *musical* purpose), and I was basically saying "get a life", because the flashy stick work enhances (not diminishes) the overall entertainment value of the art form of drumming.
I would love to have a drum off with her at any time Im a 13 year old drummer my self. I started when I was about 3 or 4. She has skills but can she beat me???

Sweet Sara,
You have amazing talent. You really don't need to do the stick stunts. It may draw attention away from the playing.

I agree, and that is true for guitarists, as well. Jimi Hendrix's stage theatrics are a noteable example.

I concur !
REAL music is a lot more than "entertainment":
It is a sweet magical caress that envelops your soul and takes it away dancing on clouds...
However, we each respond to different "vibrations".

what kind of sticks is she using? they look kind of long

That's due to her size. My son is also very small, and the sticks look long in his hands as well.
