  • Omaha Beach should have been left untouched and not ended up as a tourist attraction its the least we could have done to respect the many men who were killed there

  • Yes, there are still many bunkers along the Normandy Beaches, but these 2 from the film Saving Private Ryan never excist, and I know it I'm going every year to Normandy. Also not all these bunkers are at Omaha Beach you see in the "Now" version of this video...

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, real german bunkers are still along the coast by Omaha Beach, I was just there 6 month ago (2010). But also I would say yes some of these are different and some I have seen and photographed.

The trip is quite worthwhile.....nice countryside too and it is nice to see how it has recovered without erasing history. I was also in France in 1944.....

  • I wonder if u could still find bodies that were never found.

  • the footage from saving private ryan was shot in ireland.

  • Where are the bunkers?

  • @ERICKSKIE23 they goed to a pizza

  • 13 august i am going with my dad to Normandy now i got a BIG question! what happend to the two big bunkers on the clifs( 1:30 )i have never seen them acctualy

  • @Elieeeeboy they're not there anymore I've been to omaha

  • Comment removed

  • @Elieeeeboy demolished, or destroyed during the pass of time. I've been to Omaha Beach with my father, you can still find some bunkers here and there, most of the big ones are gone though. You can find the foundations of them though.

  • @GodOfWar221 oh thnx! i have been there i think 3 times and you're right there are are still some remaining bunkers.

  • @Elieeeeboy Actually to be more specific, at the foundation of one of those big bunkers, there is a memorial there, for the German soldiers that died defending the beach, though my memory is a tad hazey...it was either U.S. Servicemen, or the Germans.

  • @Elieeeeboy These bunkers has nothing to do with omaha beach, the footage is shot in ireland for the film Saving Private Ryan. These two bunkers never excist!

  • This place was full of blood and tear is full of tears an will be full of tears of memory.

  • FOR GERMANY !!!!!

  • nomadnametab u are a dumb ass u need to go back to the class room and learn some more i HATE nazis myself but not germany as a hole country by what u said u even haye the germans who tried to kill hitler u have no idea what ur talking about

  • Comment removed

  • BEAUTIFUL AND PAINFUL MEMORIES

  • bloody omaha

  • i'd never go into these waters, it's full of blood and tears...

  • if only we had started developing the atomic bomb a year or so sooner their asses would have been bombed into submission and this would not have been necessary. they are going to have to do something incredibly noble and courageous to ever redeem their country . i was born a decade after the nazi bastards were beaten and grew up hearing about their barbarism. i don't respect or admire anything about germany. give me a reason to do so.

  • @george1976ist After some thought, you are absolutely right. America is every bit as bad if not worst than Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan during WWll and Stalinist Russia combined. From now on, I will curse God for allowing me to live in such a cruel and exploitive country. LOL

  • @Tony63909 WHAT? Are you serious? Educated in the post modern public schools are ya?

  • @george1976ist I disagree with your comparison. It is commical to compare America to Nazi Germany. There were many Germans that were called to service and did what they had to do. I have respect for them, but ,unfortunately, I also feel that they are stained by the evil of the regime that they represented. . Knowing the countless atrocities commited by the Nazis and the millions of innocent people that they murdered,no one who fought for Germany deserves any honor.

  • @george1976ist I can not believe that you would include German and Rumanian troops. Fuck them.

  • i thank you all 'cause i'm free. RIP

  • I DONT WANNA BE HAPPY!

  • been there

  • It is so strange to see such a peaceful looking beach and knowing that it was on that very beach that one of the most violent battles in human history took place.

  • the only difference is that Saving Private Ryan was filmed on an Island and the real battles were in Normandy beachs!

rip all who fought in the Normandy beachs, germans, americans, canadians, british soldiers!

  • @PatoWiNNERS You should have omitted "germans" in your R.I.P remark.

  • god bless our heroes, we'd live true hell without them. R.I.P

  • god bless the men who fought R.I.P.

  • france; ;;;; excellent vidéo magnifique film bravo a toi

  • D-Day. . . the men who fought and died on Normandy I give my respects to those soldiers. Wishing it never happen, I will honor them even in death. *CptSpaceball*

  • trying to visualize what it must of been like. We will never know. I got so much respect for what you guys had to of gone through for all of us. Thank You!

  • Terrible music. Very unmoving music. ruins video.

  • Do yourself a favor..mute this music and turn on John Williams Omaha Beach music. It's worth it, you will see :)

  • this song makes me want to cry! because its so bad! great vid though

  • my great grandpa never made it through d day :(

  • Respect for the troops who fighted here

  • its so hard to believe that thats where over 5000 men died when looking at it. it seams so calm and peaceful.

  • all gave some, some gave all

  • God bless all who fought for their Country.

  • I wanna travel to Normandy so bad. I will do it when I grow up . its very interesting

  • touching video...

  • i wonder if the soldiers storming the beaches were wearing sunblock

  • Built it up?what are you an asshole?most historic day ever in which could never be built up enough!f-ing creep

  • good vid but use saving pvt ryan footage ...the movie is so far from the truth! the americans built it up to be more than it was!..big time!

  • @Tucker1Nonly, There was not anything 'built-up' in the movie. Omaha Beach was the most costly landing during D-Day, & ~4,700+ Allied casualties occurred there; there were perhaps 10-11,000 Allied casualties on D-Day. 20,000 casualties were expected.

  • @christof139 ya i know dude ..but youtube the ''real''footage u will see!

  • @Tucker1Nonly, I've seen the real footage, that is what little of it exists. You should read some good military books showing the terrain, German posistions, units, arty., etc. that were at Omaha. You know nothing.

BTW, this video here shows some of those German pdefensive positions & the wide & open beach very well.

  • @christof139 Actually, the estimated casualties for Omaha beach alone is 2 000. The total numbers of casualties for the Allied D-Day landings, including the US and UK Airborne units, is conservatively 8 443 but is more likely to be over 9 000, of wich around 3 000 may have been fatalities. US Airborne 2 500, US Omaha 2 000, UK Airborne 1 500, CAN Juno 1 200, UK Sword 630, UK Gold 413, US Utah 200. Lest we forget.

  • @caporalchef4

    lol

now compare it with the crossing of Dnieper (where nazis planned to build an "eastern wall", coz Dnieper is one of the largest rivers on the planet so it's easy to defend it), where casualities from both sides were more than 1 million men

  • @Scoutrussp7 Now, why the hell would I compare any war casualties????

  • @caporalchef4, No, you quote very old figures. Newer & more accurate statistics show at least 4,700 casualties at Omaha. I'd give you a list of books but you would neither read not buy them. There are over 100 british causalties included at Omaha, & these were landing craft crewmen, etc., naval personnel in the main. There were over 10,000 Allied casualties on D-Day - 20,000 were expected - & the number is continually rising as new records are found.

  • @christof139 Hey, I'm not argueing with you, mate. What are the books you are refering to, I'd be more than happy to kook them up.

  • @caporalchef4, Omaha Beach, D-day, June 6, 1944, by Joseph Balkoski; Omaha Beach, A Flawed Victory, Adrian R. Lewis; D-Day, June 6, 1944: The Climatic Battle of World War II, Stephen E. Ambrose; etc. Balkoski's book has detailed statistics of land, sea, & air units involved at Omaha, & his figure is 4,720 casualties. He lists ~30 RN casualties, but I have seen figures of over 100, & there was a Brit liason officer wounded at Point du Hoc with the Rangers.

  • @Tucker1Nonly thats nothing unusual is it. listening to lot of americans talk, you'd think it was just them who saved us all!!!

  • @ghillie below....unless your old man was Dr. Who I'm not sure how he fought at Okinawa in the Pacific theatre and then when that ended he fought in Germany... V-Day comes a little bit earlier on my calendar than J-Day

  • @dvdcybulski, VE-Day came earlier than VJ-Day. E = Europe, J = Japan.

  • The Disaster That Has humanity suffered ..

Rest in peace all the soldiers Who Gave Their Lives in Normandy for a better world, ridding the world of Europe and the whole Nazi regime.

We Can not Forget These men did what on June 6, 1944

  • Jesus, what would people do without bloody clips from Saving Private Ryan? Opening scene was filmed in Ireland and seriously inncorrect.

  • whats with the song? :/

  • I was there in June 2010. :)

  • an elderly American got off a plane in paris, after exiting the plane, a french guard asked him for his passport. He calmly said'' Im sorry Mesuir, i didnt bring it, last time i was in france i didnt need no passport'' Then the frenchmen, rudely said'' why thats impossible, france has always required a passport!!'' then the old man said, ''June i think it was, 1944, when i was walking on your beaches, there wasnt a frenchmen in sight to give my passport'' You could hear a pin drop

  • wow just amazin

  • my gpa served in Japan at Okinawa and when the pacific war ended dhe fought in Germany.

  • @GhillieMillitiacod4 I think you have that mixed up because the war in Europe ended first so he probably finished Europe then went to Okinawa to fight. Im not sure how many Army units were in Okinawa.

  • @GhillieMillitiacod4 That's impossible. The war in Europe, against Germany, VE Day, is 8th of may 1945. The war in the pacific officially ended on september 2nd 1945. Also, No US Marines ever set foot in Europe during WWII, taking only part in the war against Japan. Look up your facts before mailing some random crap on YT. Friendly advice.

  • i feel so sorry for the men who died there and i want to visit one day and join the military so glad it is at peace

  • I was born in Normandy in 1962, not far from Omaha Beach and other beaches.

They will never be forgotten and for ever respected with honor.

    In Honor of our heroes.

Like à lot of peoples here,

I want to say Thank you so much

  • waw el video es precioso y esta muy currao

  • What can I say.... impressive..

  • I want to thank the brave souls, who on this day 66 years ago took the greatest act of courage to free us from the forces of darkness. Thank you my unknown friends who fought for my freedom. I do not have enough words or tears to express my gratitude.

    LONG LIVE THE ALLIES!

  • CptnKork Do you know of any Vets from D-day?I have a connection with that time period.

War...Time and Tide have changed but the Ocean remains the same.

Time is fleeting and they who fought, will soon be... no more.

The lessons of War must be reminded so they who perished would not have died in vain. "Lest we forget"

  • God bless those Men who died during the Massive Raid. I Can imagine their Fear's as they knew that they were going to meet their end soon I even cried at 3:39!

R.I.P To those who died on June 6, 1944 and To those who ALL Died During the entire war

  • I would not like to go there.

Thinking under me there may be a bodie

  • Omaha is finally at peace...

  • Hello, where exactly are the pillboxes at 1:30 and 3:00, and the trench system at 2:10? Also how easy is it to find them?

  • Hello, where exactly are those pillboxes at 1:30 and 3:00 located, and the trench system at 2:10? Also how easy is it to find them?

  • RIP Everyone who died a WWII-related death.

  • one day (for historical and respect purposes) i hope they make technology to view past events as such. as if your there but only able to view. i think they need to send modern bad azzes and gang bangers to something of this nature. to gain respect for the freedoms and rights others died for to keep freedom what it is.

  • when i see omaha beach i picture the day and the people rushing in and this historical thought comes to my mind that one day people risked there lives for ous

  • @jayce196

yeah. it would be a honor and life experience to visit this beach and pay respects for those who lived and the lost souls who lost life suddenly there.

  • All those young guys like me,who died that day...respect, and rest in piece

  • Had a chance to see that beach, and I still cannot grasp how they finally took it. You really couldn't have asked for a better natural position to defend from.

  • i cant even come close to imagine being on those boats, waiting for the ramps to fall down so you could get hosed down by machine gun fire....Always respect veterans and people currently in the military, you have no idea what people have gone through...

  • @Mercenary484

Well said....about three years ago I had the pleasure of shaking the hand of a Pearl Harbor veteran who served on the Nevada. Not too many WWII veterans around anymore.

To all the men and women who serve----THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

  • I ve been there 3 times. Respect to all!!

  • those beaches are watered with axis and allies soldiers bloods.Respect to R.I.P.

  • Great video. And what's the name of this song? And can u get inside of these bunkers ?

  • it was 1nce a battlefield now its a peaceful,and a good tourist spot

  • I was in Normandy for the 50th anniversary in 1994. If you have not been, go. See what happened there. It is the most sacred place in the world in my opinion. All I can say is thank you to our veterans for your service!

  • that:s a great video,i go to normandy every year ,and im going there again this year 2010. those men and young boys who came a shore on that morning were sacrificial. They say about 3000 men died ,but its closer to 10,000,The us army took all the news reels off all the news camera men who recored the whole scene that morning, and i heard they destroyed all of it 2 cover it up.any way a lot of men died so that we could live.i think of them all the time and all they have missed out on in life.

  • really deep :) love it

  • That's A strange song? Do you think you can actually walk inside the bunkers?!

  • Outstanding and very emotional, well done, a fine tribute.

  • Places such as this had a deep impact upon me in europe, whatever nationality, the brutality/horror really hit home to me, i cried at many places, including Omaha beach, how anyone got ashore at all simply stunned me, seeing the German defences sent a chill through me, WW2 suddenly became more real than i could have imagined .

I have been home for some time now, but part of me stays on that beach, ill never be the same after being at places like that, and i can never say thankyou enough .

  • firefatkid, Yeah, we, mankind, should have learned many years before WWII.

  • mankind should of looked at this and laid down all of their weapons but we didnt because mankind is stupid like that

  • war will never stop, its not mankind its the people in mankind

and what are you going to do if a country attacks you for no reason, fight, not sit around all day saying "well that wasn't nice"

  • yeah well all your reply says to me is that you didn't read or think about what i said (either one i don't care prob both) and decided to make that comment. because if you had really read what i said then you would have understood that i was saying we shouldn't have war but we do.

  • i know that we shouldn't have war,but it will never stop

  • yeah and that sucks

  • you dumb shit the code names for the beaches were Omaha

  • ita normandy fucking idiot dont lie piece of shit

  • Actually Omaha isn't in Nebraska, its in France. Get your facts straight before making a fool of your self : p

  • Pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

  • There's an Omaha in America though.

  • I think it could have done without so much Saving Private Ryan footage.

  • how i wish i could visit there.....

  • When you are standing on this great beach alone with the wind on your face, remembering the history, you understand that the heaven can easily turns into hell

Thanks to every human on earth who fight against his own madness that we have all inside of us.

    sry for my english

    a french guy.

  • Thank you for that comment, I've done the very same thing, in July '09 I stood on Omaha, I broke into tears and just stood there for at least 15mins thinking...

  • R.I.P. all those brave souls they fought that day for america's freedom today, and for all americans that were very badly wounded and could not be saved, they just had to sit there, some with there skin all the way off, R.I.P.

  • My wish is that i can do a trip to normandy someday. I would like to see all great battle grounds from normandy to berlin.

  • I just came back from a two weeks trip to Normandy and visited all the places The 101st was at....i loved Utah Beach and espc. Foucarville...i can HIGHLY recommand to go there what ever it costs. I had to drive 1200km back to my hometown afterwards but it was worth it...was my second trip now and it wont be the last.

  • An amzing video, i went to Omaha earlier this year an incredible place very moving just makes you realise how lucky each and every one of us are !!

  • my grandpa got all the way from here to the Battle of the Buldge, were he got shot by a tank and lived.

  • Boss

  • A beautiful tribute to the men who gave their lives in the struggle for a free world, may they rest in peace.

  • Thanks for making that video, it helps us younger people understand that alot of people have died in the most horrible ways so we could live free as european citizens and American citizens. It's a site of history that will never be forgoten, pls don't disrespect with dumb comments, respect the dead and be happy and charish what you have in life becausse, they paid the price so you could live free today

  • the allied soldires were just doing what they were told as were the germans the germans and allied respected eachother btw rip

  • God help you if you live in a "allie" country. scum like you that choose sides deseve to get shot.

  • All the fallen Soldiers R.I.P.

We all have learned from these darkest days of the human history. May Europe stay in peace forever now. We should never forget what happened back there...

  • @LockheedC130

  • bunker at 3:02 is the same as in cod 2 in dday mission... thhis makes me cry... poor guys they gave their lives to save the world

  • Absolutly, we should never ever forget what they did for us all. It was a war of Good against Evil. They made the ultimate sacrifice..

  • can ppl swim there?

  • i think Germany was so powerful then

all the greatest army attack them and they almost fail

  • conmobedor!! muy bonito

  • the video has images of the movie rescuing the soldier ryan

  • Rangers Lead The Way!

  • that movie is shit!!

  • well really since the war was there n people died there i don't think that you would want to swimm on that beach n besides let the spirits r.i.p there don't disturbe thats disrespectfull

  • is it possible to enter the bunkers?

  • Yes, I was last week at the zone, and it´s possible enter and see the german bunkers. But don´t forget visit Pointe du hoc. Awesome

  • are there still some german words and emblems on the walls of the bunkers?

  • at bunkers I visited at Point du hoc there.s no light. But there,s one bunker at omaha with it,s cannon, beside there,s a picture, of the same place, and the cannon is at same position! A lot of museums with true material like helmets, or landing ships

  • Can we find gun;s and ammos if we dig up the earth???

  • perhaps you should find something, but it´s no easy, there is a bussiness about the rest of the battle

  • is the beach a regular beach today!? where you can swim and enjoy the sun?

  • 5/5 excelent !

  • Saving Private Ryan only shows a snapshot at how gnarly that battle was. It was carnage, like in the opening scene of the movie, for hours and hours.

Respect to all those who fought to save us.

  • i went to this beach, 5 years ago, i have been every year since with my family, it is amazing so much history i love it.

  • The greatest generation of Americans, Englanders, and Canadians. Always give them respect and think about them because they gave everything they had fearlessly, no matter if Hitler's vaunted atlantic wall lay in front of them or not.

  • god bless you

  • Yeah, conveniently leaving out the Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Polish and French. Above all the French civilians who were sacrificed when the allies bombed the French towns in Normandy to disrupt the Germans.

If you talk about a war England fought in then its the English. If you want to talk about a war that Britain fought in, that BRITISH people were drafted into and died in, then at least recognize who died for your freedom.

Its like America isn't worth mentioning cause its joined to Canada.

  • being their very breathe taking from the difference

  • ok molto molto bello complimenti

Vorrei sapere se qualcuno conosce il titolo della canzone

    grazie ezio

  • my grandpa died on omaha beache
