  • ... U really think thats bad my best fps ever in skyrim is 8 i use lovest graphix, a mod that gives more fps and game booster so do u fucking understand that if u still have like 15 fps u dont fucking cry about it

  • ups its out i will try to download it xD

  • LISTEN TO ME NOW GUYS!!I swear that my framerate dorps by about 15 or 20 frames while looking in candels!!omfg xD And it also drops when i go into caves and mines and all those indoor locations pls guys send me link to some kind of patch that will fix this problem.Thanks.And another thing,is patch 1.4 out jet???

  • WOO HOO. This is awesome! The 1.4 patch completely fixed all my framerate issues! Running at 50 fps on high, now I'm gonna try ultra and see what happens! :)

  • Im still getting 25fps in whiterun at the top of those stairs to dragons reach and at the waterfall in Markarth.

Everywhere else i get pretty much constant 50fps.

    got 1.4 update.

  • Finally they fixed this this with 1.4 now I don't have to look at my feet anymore while in a city

  • Solved with the 1.4 beta patch!!!! :)

  • @VITYVIKTOR i concur... woooooo

  • I have the same problem :(

    Do you solved it? cheers

  • @anguspetrucci fixed with the new 1.4 patch dude

  • same problem

  • have you tried the mod 'skyrim acceleration layer' on skyrimnexus??? gave me a nice boost of about 5fps in Markarth which fells loads smoother now

  • Comment removed

  • SOLUTION (completely safe, you have to copy 2 files to the main folder)

download "skyboost", it gives me a 20fps boost in towns. seriously. bethesda should learn from the modding community how to optimize their games.

  • Its really sad, but I run BF3 smoother on Ultra than Skyrim. Beautiful forest treks are summarily thrashed when I look at a city and suddenly im in a high-res slide show.

  • yeah I experienced this too...I usually have 60fps in the wild but when looking at a town I get 27 fps.

  • I disagree with you godlyhank, as the 2600k is merely a 2500k with slightly bigger cache and HT(I'm ignoring the 100mhz difference because most people OC anyway). Since this game only uses 2 cores, the 2500k will probably perform similarly if not the same as the 2600k. The 3960x is complete overkill for most gamers, not all obviously, but your average gamer. As long as you have a sandy bridge processor with 4 cores that is clocked ~4gz it shouldn't matter which one it is to an extent. As for am

  • Google TESV Acceleration Layer

    Fixed this very problem.

  • I got a QX9770 OC to 3.85 Ghz i get 35 fps on top of Markath (w/e its called) Looking down on the town, with a AMD Athlon x2 6000+ i get 14 fps....., and a Intel e6320 OC to 2.8 ghz from 1.8 ghz i get 18 fps.. I hope this has helped people, you PC are not broken this is jsut a badly optimised game.

  • Ok people, im suprised none of you have figured this out yet. This is down to your CPUs.... well, partly mostly down to Skyrims old engine, it only uses 2 cores, it relies on Per core power rather than multithreaded power, if you have a quad core and monitor it it will use average of 50% of each core no more, dual cores it will use 100% of both cores, meaning the newer the processor the better it will perform, the only processors what get 60 fps in towns stock are the 2600k (possibly) and 3960X

  • I don't know if you have fixed this, but I found a SKSE plugin that fixed my lag.

Go to SkyrimNexus and search for "TESV Acceleration Layer".

Just follow the instructions and it should make your skyrim run like a hot knife in butter.

    Cheers.

  • That lag is nothing!

  • @capperz412 its just an example of it, it happens really bad for a lot of people including me, drops to <20fps when in towns.... very annoying

  • I have the very same problem man..

    Running on my:

    - GTX 570 Direct CU II - 750, 1500, 1950 @ 1v;

    - I5 2500 @ 3.8ghz;

    - Ripjaws 8gb DDR3 @ 1600mhz;

    - MSI P67A-GD65;

It's frikin' absurd.. I mean, 60.1FPS drop to 39~45 just for looking into town, makes the game lag like hell.. This can't be right..

I run Crysis 2 on HARDCORE @ 1080p and it doesn't lag as much as Skyrim lol.

  • I also had this weird FPS drop. And in a few other games, like Rift or SWToR, great fps most of the time but when i enter the battleground drops down to even 4FPS! So i replaced my Phenom x4 9750 with Phenom II 955 BE. Performance increased by only a few frames. So i said fuck it! Cashed out 190euro(200$?) and bought an i5 2400 (6mb cache, 3.4 max freq) and it works perfect now. Every game works flawlessly, at any time! So spare yourself some trouble, and spare some money. and do the same :)

  • Same problem here... Intel Core 2 Quad cpu, AMD radeon hd 6870, 8 gb ram tho so not a high end rig. I did expect better performance though in Skyrim. I hope Bethesda fixes it soon.

  • WTF today I got 60 fps In city's an hour later when I came back to play I get 20 fps

  • hey! i have the same problem with my HD6850-4GB RAM-PhenomII 955BE rig. if you have a solutuin for this major fps drop in towns, please post it.

  • It might be bottle necking. This is happening to me too, and I have a Phenom II X4 N970 processor. Amd overdrive shows high cpu gpu usage when I look away, and low usage when I look to the center.

  • new update, new performance mods and new ati drivers dont fix a thing. No on is concentrating on this and its a shame cause it seems like its an obvious fix for the devs

  • Its one major bug I can play this game fine on my 9800gt stock clock and I still get the same 20-15fps when in whiterun also in Solitude when looking towards the giant rock arch my fps takes a shit.

    WTF Bethesda?

Even a GTX 570 lags to this shit you know its bad.

  • anyone try out the 11.11b or 11.11c drivers for ATI to see if it fixed this?? In work atm, will ry later to confirm

  • Just realized that when i experience these lags my gpu usage is about 10% Any idea how to fix this? Im using a gtx 580

  • @UshankasFTW what is your CPU usage at that same time? Low framerates does not necessarily mean GPU. If your GPU is at 10% its probably doing a lot of waiting around for the CPU.

  • I have the exact same issue in Oblivion and Morrowind. Elder Scrolls games just seem to run like crap on my computer.

  • Since patch 1.2 I seem to get smoother framerates in town, but it is still dropping nevertheless. I found that forcing ambient occlusion off in Nvidia control panel helped a lot with stuttering problems since patch 1.2.

  • @Ixezed Not working for me. It seems that ambient occlusion is off by default.

  • @Ixezed thats funny because all the last patch did was make it DRM mandatory

  • @Ixezed in which drivers?

  • update didn't fix it..... well done bethesda, not playing this game then.... game ruining issue. good that a lot of other games came out.... hoefully skyrim will be properly released next year or something, or mods will fix....

  • Anyone else checking this video daily for a fix? If you have one, a comment would be much appreciated.

  • even a new patch is not fixing this.... if you have got a solution, let me know guys by message..

  • OMG 1.2 patch didn't fix this what the fuck

  • AMD Phenom II x6 1055t

    GTX 570 superclocked

    8 gigs PC1333

Had the same issues. Disabled AMD C1E Support and AMD K8 cool&quite control in bios, Noticeable performance boost. Over clock from 2.8 to 3.4GhZ, game is running like a dream. This game is CPU intensive, AMD power saving features may be what is bottlenecking your system. I had one thread w/ 88% load at 800mhz before tweaks, retarded. Msg me for more info

  • i got the same problem, but its not when i look at the whole town, just a specific part of it. in riverwood my fps drops when i look at the blacksmith and in markath its at the waterfall.

  • It's just Bethesda not optimizing their game, Oblivion was the same.

  • This is why i cant play...High end pc and this is how i play...1.2 better fix this..

  • Comment removed

  • Is the new patch going to fix this

  • @wildbillycobra I hope it does mate, game is unplayable imo when you cant even go into a town without breaking all immersion, frame rate hits below 20, so stupid.... fix the game bethesda!!! i wanna play!!

  • I have the same issue, the Inn as you enter whiterun causes me a massive FPS drop for some bizzare reason, when i look down at the town from Dragonsreach and when i enter solitude, apart from that fantastic game lol.

  • I don't understand how all these people are having problems. Game runs great for me with ultra setting x16 AF and AA.

  • i have the same problem looks like its not GPU problem i have i5 760 with GTX 470 with or without overclock i get this problem. how someone below say this is a console port trademarks problem in everygame. sry bad english.

  • I have the exact same problem with a Radeon HD 6950. I have to drop my settings down to high with AA turned total off to great rid of most of the problem.

  • It is a console port, these things are bound to happen. Maybe a fix will be included in a future patch, but don't count on it.

  • I have the same problem.. I run it at Max settings and I get close to no lag except when looking at / inside towns... Pisses me off, even at low settings I get it.

  • The optimization problems in towns are likely related to bad occlusion culling. Since these drops happen when you look over dense areas, that would be my guess. Maybe modders can fix that if Beth doesnt. As it is, no matter what hardware you have, it will perform like shit because of resource allocation limits that hold it back. The only things that can do any help right now are those memory tweaks.

  • There even a graphics fix on the modding site, but with everything on low i still get 20-25 fps at certain points, like for example, fast travel to dragonreach in whiterun and turn around.... extreme fps dip and other towns are unplayable.

  • @flosthebos thats right -.-

  • Skyrim update potentially coming week after Thanksgiving

  • In my opinion add more memory to your game

Its under your skyrim.ini file labled as iPreloadsizelimit

default is set to 26214400 (which is 25mb of PC ram dedicated to the game)

my setting is set to 262144000 (note the extra 0, which gives it 250mb of PC ram dedicated tot he game) no more stuttering.

    Learn to tweak boys

  • @ranivus Pardon me for the stupid question, but where exactly is the file?

  • @BackdoorCommando should be in your my documents>my games>skyrim>skyrim prefs

  • @XAnimeBeeX Thanks. I don't see iPreloadsizelimit anywhere though. I'll just add it in.

  • @ranivus lol in my ini there is only this [Display] sD3DDevice="ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series" [Grass] b30GrassVS=0 [Water] bReflectLODObjects=1 bReflectLODLand=1 bReflectSky=1 bReflectLODTrees=1 [General] sLanguage=ENGLISH
  • @ranivus not working

  • I'm just glad it's not only me, think Bethesda will roll out a patch soon?

  • I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the high number of particle systems involved in towns. Let's hope it will be fixed.

  • I'm running on Ultra, with shadow details a bit lower, Actors & Models drawing distance to 13, and distance detail to medium. That gave me a 10fps increase in these area's.. Still noticable, but not as annoying! AA, AF, didn't do nothing for it, so I keep them maxed out..

  • I have it too.. CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, nothing is maxed out, still fps drops in towns and cities, only when looking at it (villages), or looking in the direction of the "longest line" (cities)... Even when you're looking at the wall of a house... That esentially told me it had to some kind of software isue..

  • Oh God it's even worse on the Ps3. Man it runs like crap on mine

  • probably draw distance ?

  • you need a 4 ghz cpu xD

  • @x3netterblaster08 You need to get a brain, dumbass. I feel sorry for your parents having to buy you new shit all the time because you don't know shit about computers.

  • @Utalk234 Ok..dickhead, can i hear a reason why i have no clue about computers ! fucking shit , skyrim is bad optimized so you need like consoles a pretty good cpu cause it has to render shadows aswell.. when you dont have a good cpu like 3 ghz you encounter lags cause this old engine is not optimized so good... sry guys for my bad english and my way of speaking but i definitely not let you saying shit about me. FUCKER

  • @x3netterblaster08 You apparently DON'T know anything. Shadows aren't rendered by CPUs. Every basic PC CPU from 3 years ago is stronger than consoles, and clock speed means nothing, unless you're comparing 2 of the same architecture. (a 3ghz i7 will be faster than a 4ghz phenom II etc).

  • @sairus002 wtf ? normally the shadows and other rendering stuff is done by the gpu..i say "normally" ..but not in skyrim..google it and you find the problems that so many people have. trust me, all day iam on the beth forums of skyrim and i know why a lot of people have framerate problems. or would you say a ATi HD 5850 is to bad for running skyrin at medium ? i doesnt think so

  • @x3netterblaster08 Well I looked it up, and I stand corrected. I would never have thought they would offload ANY graphic processing to the CPU these days. However this leads to another puzzle. OCing my CPU from 3.0 to 4.2 GHz does absolutely nothing to the framerate, neither does OCing my 5850 to 1000/1300. I'm also running 8gb of 1600mhz ram with lowered timings. So it seems the game's design is the bottleneck. I still believe the problem lies in occlusion culling however.

  • @x3netterblaster08 Well first off you illiterate monkey, learn English before conversing with people in any case. Having a 4 ghz CPU is pointless, a 4 core 3.1 ghz would be fine to handle this game, the fact is, the lag drop is happening to people with decent and even beast machines, i.e. it's a bad console to PC port.

  • @Utalk234 sorry for you, i doesnt know that all people have to write and understand 100% english regardless of origin.. i was saying the whole time that skyrim is a bad console port ; ) but the conversation is over now.. I have more important things in life as writing with anti social humans -.-

  • @x3netterblaster08 You do if you talk on an english site stupid. You actually werent saying that the whole time, gl with your trolling.

  • @Utalk234 ohk dude, its true you dont need a 4gig cpu and its also true that skyrim is badly optimized, but however. We dont need people to go flooding the comments with hateful comments do we now? and also if you tell him to speak english he already is.

  • @XAnimeBeeX Actually I was pissed at the time, dealing with my own shit, so sorry about that Netter, properly. Respectively I'm running 2.1 ghz and running horridly, I'd recommend using a 3.1 as it was good enough for me. 30 FPS, max, 60 when not moving. Just hate how people assume you need a beast comp to run games.

  • @Utalk234 your alright man. just take it easy =)

  • I have quite similar problem. I have a realy good PC (i5 2500k, GF 570 GTX) and i got FPS drops when looking at towns or big forts from 60-70 fps to 30. And this mouse lag is awful.

  • @Marcosone1 I get no mouse lag at all. Have you done the tweak to force off vsync? Also, turning down AA to 2x makes for a much better mouse response, regardless of framerate.

  • same issue happens with me, but when im loading areas, for example going through a door into a building or outside, its like that for a few mins then sorts itself out. Theres a similar issue on the Ps3 where there would be massive FPS drops when your save filed reached more than 6mb in size

  • It's obviously something related to the engine not decreasing the quality of further away objects like it's supposed to (For optimization purposes). Instead it's rendering what you can't see at best quality, therefore it's lagging like a piece of shit. Just taking a guess here though, it could be something else.

  • Holy tits I thought I was the only one with this problem

  • SAME HERE ! BETHESDA HAVE TO SEE THIS

  • I have the same problem with xfx 6870 as a gpu and i5 2500 as cpu,i get a constant 45-60 fps on Ultra Settings everywhere, but when i get close to towns i have framedrop to 30-35 without a reason,i think its Skyrim's bug, must wait for the fix guys.Pretty strange these frame drops.

  • same problem... waiting for the patch.

  • Same issue here..I ran a fraps bench in the city of Riften. Min was 22 Max was 90. That's a pretty ridiculous range. PII BE @ 3.4 with a gtx570 1280mb (overclocked) and 8GB memory...just doesn't seem right. Tried most recent whql and beta drivers as well :|

  • @zr0hero83 I have quite similar rig and have this problem too. Did you find any fix for that already ? BTW i heard that Skyrim use only 2 GB of RAM and only 2 CPU cores. This is unexceptable...

  • @Marcosone1 Nope, no luck..hopefully they patch it soon...

  • same problem here with a 6850.

  • I have a ATI 4890 and I get massive fps dips as well...

  • Same here, so annoying...

  • Yep, same problem here.

  • I hope Bethesda will fix it with the new Patch. Everyone must post (in Threads, Tweaks, Websites) as much as possible, that Bethesda will recognize this problem!!

  • Same problem here, it's really frustrating!

  • I'm having the same problem.

  • If you're having problems with frame rates, you can squeeze more fps out of your rig if you turn off AA in the skyrim settings and tick the checkbox that says FXAA. Also, turn down AF to 4x or 2x.

  • @radports Even at low resolution and low settings I get this framerate drop.

  • @Ixezed Generally speaking, cities are harder to render in Elder scrolls games. I remember having the same problem with Morrowind and Oblivion. The method I used should give you back some fps unless your computer is old and/or poorly maintained.

  • @Ixezed i might have a tip for you, download the fix that lets you use more ram because at default skyrim only uses 2GB..... just google 4GB skyrim to find it, first link.

  • @Bart0vds yeah ur right, especially for 64 bit versions of windows 7.. i get more than 8 fps now

  • @radports Theres 2 bottle necks about the game EVERY gamer needs to fix themselves.

TESV.exe needs a cff explorer to unlock the 2gb RAM limit to fix the close to desktop issue (google: skyrimnexus 4gb)

Second is fixing the iPreloadSizeLimit in the skyrim.ini file in the document folder.

the default is 26214400 (25mb) im sure most of you guys have at least 4 gb of RAM so just add an extra 0 at the end of that string and you'll notice the WORLD is soooo much better.

  • Same problem here, Gtx 580 and i7 920 3.8 Ghz so goddamn annoying

  • the same problem, gtx 480 i7 930@3,8. good im not alone with that

  • Same thing for me, Phenom II x6 @4.20GHz, 12gbs ram, GTX 550 TI in SLI. I also noticed that when i go into some caves it does it too. I hope they fix this because I'm really starting to get into the game.

  • Im getting the same problem too. Happens in any village or town for me.

    Specs are:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE

    RAM: 4GB

Gfx card: MSI AMD 6950 2gb Twin Frozr II

    OS: WIndows 7 64

  • I have a gtx 580, 8 gigs of RAM and an i7 running @ 3ghz, it still lags when I go into a town.

  • @nonstopjc2k8 omg, almost identical setup with same issue, with those specs we should not be having any problems!

  • @Demonpoe666 i wonder why we are having the same issue.

  • @XAnimeBeeX no clue, It must be something to do with the way they optimize the game or something, the framerate drop just doesn't make sense; our machines are above the recommended specs for the game...

  • I have a i5 2410m and i think this game has something wrong with my CPU. When the lag occurred, i found that Turbo Boost was running in Energy Saver mode. Running Skyrim in Energy Saver mode!!!!!!! No wonder it has fps drop.

  • My rig is Ati Radeon HD 6950, Intel Core i5 2500K and 8GB RAM and i still get the frame drops. I have tryed everything and i think i'm going to give up :/ I guess i have to buy it on xbox and that sucks. Fucking console ports piece of shit!! Oh and the best part is, i can run BF3 without any problems, but this game...

  • get a new computer, nerd

  • Same fucking problem since Fallout 4. They arent going to fix it. Don't get your hopes up.

  • @blacklabel67k Sorry, I meant Fallout 3 obviously.

  • Same prob here with GTX 570/i5 2500k@3,7GHz.

My drops are not as extreme (30-40) but still very annoying.

  • I am getting this too. :( really sucks.

  • I have set my all settings to low and still I get a really bad framerate walking through the city.

  • THIS IS MY BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THE GAME !

You are certainly not alone. I have not had this kind of problem with Fallout 3, Fallout: NV or Oblivion although they basically use the same engine.

I really hope Bethesda is working on this.

  • It's weird, for me, it's only in dungeons that my fps takes a major dive. I think it's smoke and particle effects that slow my pc down, and all dungeons seem to love being as hazy as possible.

  • @ShadowtailsST playing the game in windowed mode fixes the lag in interiors. There are some apps out there that make windows fit the whole screen like fullscreen.

  • same problem here.

  • phew, and I thought it was just me!

  • wtf is this shit FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • i have the same problem with this game. not just in towns but its almost everywhere that would require a lot of power. changing from ultra to low doesnt even change much in the performance, my comp still runs teh game the same way. BIGGEST dissapointment everrrrr.

  • Dude we have the exact same system apart from the processor, i got the i7 2600k.

And i have the exact same performance... i started to think i fucked something up.

  • everything on low still happens, same thing happens to me if everything's on ultra setting. *clap clap clap* make more broken games todd!!

  • Same problem. Entering Markarth (for example) is specially horrible!

  • I get this as well, though hoping for Bethesda to fix something like is most likely a fucking pipe dream.

  • Exact same problem no matter what settings i put it on

  • Yea, same thing here. GTX 590, i7 920, 8GB rams, newest nVidia drivers. I really hope Bethesda gets this fixed asap. Cause my OCD is killing me about, I can't stand the FPS drop.

  • @TheKnightMedia Same I am getting terrible OCD as well. Hoping it isn't my graphics card. Lol....Bethesda games.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheKnightMedia @Fittlemen lol OCD? Going on a whim here and suggesting you have no idea what OCD is.

  • @MeisterRoxas @TheKnightMedia OCD=Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. "Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts." We know what it is.

Essentially what I was saying is I want everything to be perfect. I begin to think it is my GPU, and I loose sleep over it.

  • I have the same Problem and I tried to set all to low but no.. :(

  • I'm glad to see this is a common issue and not related to my particular setup. Now we have to pray for Bethesda to fix that.

  • @Ixezed this may not be relevant but im on PS3 and im getting frame rate issues in areas i dont really think should be that taxing, mostly certain interiors

  • I never had this problem with new vegas but its horrible in skyrim..

  • I'm having the same trouble. When looking at a town from any distance my Fps drops considerably (from a steady 60FPS to sometimes under 30). I have an i7-920 overclocked to 3.6ghz, 12Gb of ram, a Samsung 470 120Gb SSD and two GTX 570s in SLi.

  • I have the same problem. With skyrim, oblivion, fallout 3 and new vegas. No fix for this?

  • same here. it has something to do with the actor and objekt distance...

  • same. i look down whiterun and my card is only using 40% and cpu 70%

  • @llJAFYll my cpu uses 30% and 40% gpu when in towns, when outside or in caves my cpu uses 50% and gpu 99%

  • Same here.I hope those "Jews" at Bethesda will solve this. This was an issue with Fallout New Vegas as I remember correctly.Cheers.
