  • I'm sorry, but those last 5 notes in the upper parts were much too fast. It sounds much better when you give each one at least the chance to be heard.

  • where are the T's in battle?!

  • this was pretty good :) i adore this song. the chamber chior at my school sung this when i was 5 or 6. this song, and the amazing conducter inspired my love of music, and my love to sing. now i'm 14 and in that very same chior, with that very same conductor that i admired so much, singing this song that i love so much. you guys did a great performance, a couple mistakes here and there, but still, very, very good :)

  • the one singing the descant was flat. too bad.

  • WOOOT!! Great!

  • i wanna go to this university!!! i hope to go to the john j cali school of music...i hope this is what its gonna be like being in tht choir u guys were good!!!!

  • the part at the end was messed up

but a very good rendition of it

  • tenors seem to be shouting at the "Joshua fit the battle yes the battle of jericho...." with all those high notes...

  • how come all of these songs consist of 3 words?

im not bagging on them...i just dont get it.

elijah rock is a 2 word song...

  • Very good, but the end was a bit messy.

  • go bass ftw

  • this was good

but I think sprague did way better!!!I think it was yr 06 or 07 when they did it!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • I can here individual voices and it should be one whole voice. There's lots of parts that are just barely off key, the soprano was good, but second time she went up to the high note it was a little flat, and the tenors at one point were a little flat, but its expected with this song, its definitly not easy. This was really good though, great tempo and it got really good towards the end

  • Moses Hogan wrote some beautiful pieces, but some think that he had a penchant for "bleaching" spirituals. When it comes down to a choice between following the composer's desires to the letter (literally) or staying true to the form, I believe that it's alright for the conductor to make either choice.

  • That was amazing! Excellent job, good t's on battle, sometimes you don't hear them pronounced enough. Also great tone and diction. Stunning performance.

  • that soprano soloist was a couple cents sharp and the tenors uhhhh support please and don't shout

  • damn basses, yall sound sexy as hell.

  • blown awayyyy

  • good, but work on diction.

tempo is a bit fast than i have normally heard it.

    well done.

  • oh shuddup, that was amazing haha

  • Dudeee. Tenors at 1:30 are intense.

  • hahaha yea they're supposed to be its an intense part lol but yea they are

  • my choir did this song at music fest, but didn't seem to be this fast.

    much props tho.

    i liked it.

  • Whoever that soprano was i am jealous that was amazing. Our choir did this and it sounded nothing like that. WOW!

  • Thank you for a great rendition!!!!

  • the chamber singers at my school just did this song at our choir concert yesterday and it was amazing

  • best caucassin choir singing this song song ive ever heard yet

  • I'm so doing this if I get into Montclair.

  • Perfect tonal quality and interpretation for this piece.

  • Nice tenors ~

  • those tenors were kicking ASS!!!

this is one of the best performances i've heard of this song

  • I agree.

  • I have to say, the first time I picked up the music for this particular version of the song, I was a bit hesitant, but once I did my research and heard how simply phenomenal you made it sound, I have no doubts that this will be an amazing piece to perform.

Great Job! Especially the Bass parts in there. Nice and low, yet you can still distinctly make out the text! Great Job!

  • We listened to this in my Chorus class today and everybody was AMAZED at how wonderful it sounds!

  • my favorite part of this song is when the basses hit that low F on "a tumbling down" lol its so fun

  • baddle????? there are definately ts in that word

  • At that tempo, T's sound muddy. D's provide much better diction at that tempo.

  • In a spiritual the diction should more closely resemble the speech of the average American than in most English-language singing. We tend to lose our consonants, especially in the middle and at the end of words.

  • IT"S A SPIRITUAL!!! YOU WOULD NEVER PRONOUNCE THE T'S!!!! DON"T CRITIQUE IF YOU DON"T KNOW CHORAL MUSIC!!! In fact I hate all of the critiquers on Youtube.

  • I would like to say that I thought the same thing, plus it made it a little easier for at least my college choir to learn, but there is a video on here that actually has Moses Hogan talking and he wants the T's.

Look up the name The Battle of Jericho with Moses Hogan and you may be as surprised as I was.

  • Actually, Moses Hogan himself has said he wants the T's to be pronounced. The video is on youtube... you can look it up..

  • @Mhmmm037 I was jus about to put that until I saw your comment!

  • @okIamdoingthis Does that include yourself?

  • not in the dialect.

  • Woo! That was amazing! One of the best groups I've heard!! Very open soprano singer at the end! Very hard, but very well executed a capella!

Buuuut...Where was the bass II's low-note slide at the end? I can't find a single group who hits it, and that's pretty the main thing I'm looking for!

  • it's there. you just gotta really listen for it. and its hard to be heard on that note! lol

  • Yeah that is my main gripe about this song, the other parts should back off to allow for the slide

  • Heh, its cool that this was posted.

I was in Singers when we did the first tour of Eastern Europe. Coolies! I see Finder right in the front, and who could miss Manny's smile?

  • great job. the only thing, is the men sounded a tiny bit out of sync in the very very beginning. but everything blended great and bravo to the high note. perfectly performed. and the basses were excellent in this. well done.

  • Definitely best performance on YouTube. Bravo to the soprano soloist for not straining for that high note. Tenors sounded a little bit strained near the end. Awesome blend, and by far the best group that's posted this song on YouTube.

  • the best performance i've heard so far on youtube on this song!

  • HOLY SHIT! Such energy!!! Blew me away! Only criticism is to take MUCH more time on the ending, and let those big fat chords just sit for a while. Just because you rode that piece like a freaking flaming chariot, doesn't mean you have to blow right through the ending. Overall, jesus christ, that was perhaps better than the Moses Hogan choral.

  • i woulnt say better then moses hogan choral...

  • lololol i blend like oil and water.

  • I'm not gonna lie, out of all the recordings on youtube we have the only bass II's you can actually hear.
