Many of you just don't get it. When you understand a language, especially if you've grown up with it - you don't know what it's like to just "hear" it.
When I was younger I couldn't understand french... and I could enjoy this beautiful melody of sounds when someone spoke. Now, however, it is encumbered with the understanding of what the person is actually saying, which dilutes the pure pleasure of just hearing the sound.
This allows native English speakers to hear what english "sounds" like.
@Blindsushi@SolarRopes The song is 'Cherche la Rose' (1962) by Marlene Dietrich (arranged by Burt Bacharach). Another version of 'Skwerl' includes a song called 'Homage à Marlene' by Kyls Burtland, which sounds inspired by the aforementioned tune. I assume the copyright holders must have noticed 'Cherche la Rose' prompting a new song. You'll soon realize how integral 'Cherche la Rose' was to the short (especially editing) and it's haunting absence if you hunt this version of 'Skwerl' down.
great. I thought the vid was inspired and brilliantly conceived and executed and funny too. Then i read the comments.funnier still. ha. Is it the internet which is making people stupid or was it ever so? uh, silly question?
It sounds like they used an online translation service to translate English text to another language (I suppose any would do), but then used that text to translate back to English. The reason it sounds so off, yet we understand certain words/phrases, is because no language is parallel to another. While there will be overlap from an exact translation to a grammatically-correct translation, the degree of overlap will vary depending on the languages you choose.
They say real words though. And some of the phrases use our grammatical structure, such as using the word "Why" when beginning some questions or "You wanna get". BOOOOO. For real fake english, try this youtube video "fake english french"
@rodrigoavga They have to put some well known English words and whatnot to make it sound like to someone who doesn't speak English that the characters are speaking English.
I suposse you have to be english speaker to understand that this is fake english, because to me it sounds like real english, indeed i think i´ve heard some common words
so this is what portuguese sounds like for spanish speakers, or norwegian sounds like for swedish speakers... you can understand about half, and the rest, you must use your imagination, at last, we finally understand as english speakers
@mjbanka17 Not really, as a Spanish speaker I can understand Portuguese, Italian among other latin languages even without having studied before (if they don't speak too fast, of course). No idea about norwegian and swedish speakers, I guess it's almost the same.
@mjbanka17 btw, for Spanish speakers maybe it happens with the Greek language. Greek has almost the same pronunciation like Spanish (European Spanish), but I can't understand anything about it. Totally mind fuck XD
The guy sounds like an Australian in America, and the woman started out sounding Nordic, and then French, and a generic Euro accent. Is it supposed to be fake English with real English words and completely scrambled accents?
LOL, good. Sounds very American, but did anyone else notice that she uses the European dining style rather than the American? Watch the fork. She needs to read her Emily Post to get it right.
what kind of american is that iv watched it four times and im stumped .. id like to see a bit of script before i be leave. or is it just whole pile of niche slang ???
@TheDonhwan haha don't sweat it. It isn't real English. Judging by your channel it looks like you're trying to learn english but this video definitely isn't going to help you. English is my native language and this doesn't make a bit of sense to me and I don't think it makes sense to anyone else. And no, it's not some form of slang. ;)
