@Mocasta Quan Chi had ordered Elder Sub-Zero (Noob Saibot now) to retrieve an amulet for him. When he did so, Quan Chi offered to kill the Shirai Ryu (Scorpions clan) and the Lin Kuie. agreed. Elder Sub-Zero's death was by the hands of Scorpion, but only because Quan-Chi had tricked Scorpion into thinking it was Sub-Zero who murdered his clan.So in reality, it was the Link Kui's agreement to Quan-Chi that got everyone killed.

That would also make Shang Sung's ending true as well. That would be an interesting twist with Liu being the bad guy and Shang being the good guy. Although almost all of them could be true except for the part where they kill Shao Khan.
