  • Greatly underrated and fantastic movie. No remake needed, just re-released on DVD and shown on TV once in a while!

  • excellent ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ this clip transport me to the past to my High School times (when I saw this movie) one of the best of 70s season, thanks for the job and share us.

  • My dad took me to see this movie when it first came out! And I saw the movie Hindenburg in the Grauman's Chinese Theatre when it first came out.

  • During the making of this film, a S.E.5a replica aircraft collided with the camera helicopter and several people died.

  • If someone has this movie please put it up

    Thanks in advance.

  • This is a great movie, and I have always loved the theme, I like the version that plays when the zeppelin is being brought out of the hanger in the middle of the film, great all around movie.

  • I really like the theme from this movie ever since I first saw it on TV about ten years ago. Been trying to find a clean recording of it since, but no one's selling it far as I can see.

  • @Karagianis I think Warner Bros put it out on DVD.

  • Great film! Taue Los! Schiff Hoch!

  • The Great War was Jules Verne's war. Zeppelins had a kinda sorta primitive sci-fi essence to them. You half expect to see the LZ36 commanded by Robur-Master of the World, and a German U-Boat led by Captain Nemo himself.

  • Man, I've been wanting to see this again.

  • (Continued): People were displaced, injured, bridges washed out. The situation was bad. A distress signal was sent out. Singal was received and Zeppelin airships were dispatched with emergency supplies, workers, medics to the disaster area as soon as weather gave the airships access...History's first disaster-response airlift operation. I don't recall if there was only one (or more)Zeppelins responding.. Needlesstosay, this probably made Von Zeppelin very happy (he was still alive, I think).

  • #1) During routine patrol over north Atlantic a German Naval Zeppelin spotted a British warship, communicated to the vessel to surrender and await interception from German surface units, or the Zeppelin would begin military operations against it. The vessel surrendered without incident and was subsequently met by German surface ships and the Zeppelin resumed it's patrol... Event #2) During an unusually bad winter (1916?), a region of Germany was hit by severely destructive storms, flooding..

  • Oh yes! And another really fascinating detail rather relating to German military Zeppelin operations... Note in the movie Allies are about to start using incendiary ammo. against the airships so as to ignite the hydrogen...otherwise they were rather difficult to bring down. One military Zeppelin returned to it's hanger after a mission with 456 holes (from ordinary ammo.) in its gas cells being counted for patching. Three unique military Zeppelin events occurred proving their worth:

  • The film industry does not want to generate too much awe for things German... Although I'm sure a remake could easily and profitably be carried out whilst at the same time maintaining the German-as-ultimate-demons-of-planet-Earth theme. They've done a very good job of it so far... There does seem to be a policy of not sensationalizing areas of Germany apparent superior achievement... Their Airship industry was superior.. They simply couldn't get helium from US (only source at the time).

  • Thanks for posting. This film begs for a remake. Love the theme music. Reminds me of the Sam Spence NFL Films music of the early 70s. Saw it on NBC Movie Of The Week, I think.

  • denberg2: I too am one of those few people who also, like you saw this movie at the theater. Weird Huh ? I Loved it. I actually saw it on my 12th birthday. and have always cherished that memory.

  • Brilliant dance music for the well known nationalist cat. Dance for us cat. In front of a mirror!

  • Brilliant Film & Brilliant Theme! Thanks

  • My favorite part was when Michael York's impersonation is discovered and he throws the fellow over the side of the Zeppelin and then yells, "Man Overboard!" Now that's fairly useless from a Zep. I was surprised he didn't throw a life ring after the poor guy.

  • is the theme available on cd?.

  • I bet I'm one of the very few people watching this clip on YouTube who actually saw ZEPPELIN at the cinema in 1971...I was impressed with it then, and still thoroughly recommend it now.

  • I saw it in the theater as well when I was a small boy. Too bad they don't make great films like this anymore. Films like this and The Blue Max make me want to go back to 1916 and win one for the Germans!

  • You were indeed lucky. I didn't see this until it was on tv in the 70's. Really liked it..a great movie! About a little-known part of history.

  • @denberg2 The first time I saw it was on "Movie of the Week" (I think that's the name of the show) back in 72 or '73, when they were showing Colombo. Been trying to see it again ever since.

  • @denberg2 Do use a favour and be a pal can you put the WHOLE movie for me and everyone else.Go on don't be a cunt.

  • I just love this music (film's not bad either).

  • Great film - Plot was unique concerning the attempt to destroy the British Magna Carta. The cornerstone of British leagal system. They constructed a scaled down Zep and the procedures used in its flight....

  • Great film, tks for posting.

  • Love that score! The film was also rather decent, but the star of this is defenately the soundtrack.

  • Also made long before Zeppelins were used by the Magisterium.

  • Not quite on par with The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.
